Heron County Junior Farmers Plan
To esign Sweaters for Members
Huron County Junior Farmers
met m the Agricultural Board
Rooms. Clinton, on November
30 for their regular meeting.
President Robert Fotheringham
was in the chair.
The president reported that
the pens which were left over
from the plowing match were
selling quite favorably.
There will be a county bowl-
ing tournament on December 27
at Clinton to pick a team to
represent the county at Guelph.
Murray Hoover reported that a
curling bonspiel will be held
on January 21. Anyone inter-
ested in curling is asked to get
their names in immediately.
The county organization has
planned their annual fun night
and annual meeting to be held
in Belgrave on February 3.
Local presidents are asked to
have the names of their 1967
executive into the agricultural
office by January 21.
A committee consisting of
Shirley Jacques and George
Townsend was set up to receive
entries for the design of a
sweater. The Huron County
Junior Farmers plan to design
(
a county sweater to be sold to
members. The winning design-
er will receive a free sweater.
Entries from all members
throughout the county are in-
vited.
Donald Young was named to
fill the position of press re-
porter which was left vacant
by Joanne Alton leaving the
county for the winter months.
Likewise Jim Papple was named
to assist Donald Young on the
drama festival committee.
Don McKercher urged mem-
bers to attend the Ontario con-
ference held in Toronto on
January 6 and 7 and the Guelph
conference on March 17 and 18.
George Townsend reported
on the rally night held in Sea -
forth on November 25. He
stated that it proved to be quite
beneficial to those attending.
The county organization is
preparing a year book covering
the first 20 years of the Huron
County Junior Farmers. Clubs
with pictures they think might
be of interest to include in the
book are invited to send snaps
to either Donald Young or Mur-
ray Hoover.

Since prohibition went into
effect two months ago, 32 stand-
ard hotels have surrendered
their licences, according to in-
formation from the Licence
Board.
Owing to the present high
prices, the Canadian dollar has
depreciated in value to 67
cents,
Earl Rau and Merano Oesch
bagged three coons on a tree
the other day. The boys are
highly elated over their success.
C. Purdy, who has been wir-
ing houses in Hensall for hydro,
has left the village for St. Cath-
arines, where he will be en-
iaged in similar work.

Gladys Luker has accepted a
position as book-keeper in the
clothing store of T. C. Joynt,
in Hensall.
John Mousseau and family,
who are former residents of Hay
Township, have taken up resi-
dence in the village of Hensall.
A nice blanket of snow ar-
rived in the district on Monday
of this week, and was accom-
panied by a cold easterly wind.

King announced last night that
Canada is now at war with
Japan, to take effect immedi-
ately,
With the payment on Tues-
day of the last school deben-
ture, the village of Hensall joins
the ranks of other municipali-
ties in Ontario who are debt
free.
William Ness left Dashwood
on Monday for Galt, where he
will train with the Royal Cana-
dian Air Force.
Fred Kerr, who has been the
obliging teller at the Zurich
branch of the Bank of Montreal,
left on Monday for Chatsworth,
to work with the same bank.

manager for the past six
years. Prior to that his father

Grand Bend residents gave
their first reeve, Herman Gill,
and entire council another man-
date at the recent nomination
meeting. They had first been
elected in June of this year
when Grand Bend became in-
corporated.
Rev. John B. Fox, of Bran-
don, Manitoba, has accepted a
call to be minister at Carmel
Presbyterian Church, Hensall,
and will arrive shortly.

DECEMBER, 1956
Firemen and volunteer work-
ers have already found three
bodies in their search of the
ruins of the British Exchange
Hotel in Godericli, which burned
on Tuesday morning. The build-
ing was 113 years old.
Charles and Gerald Sreenan,
of near Blake, left on Monday
for Kirkland Lake, where they
have a sister living. They will
spend the holiday season there.
On Friday night when the
Zurich hockey team was play-
ing in Clinton, Tow Rawlings
suffered 41 badly fractured
wrist and will be out of action
for some time.

dinger quietly celebrated their
50th wedding anniversary re-
cently, when they were enter.
