Bayfield, Middleton and Goderich at their regular meet- ing on Wednesday afternoon, in the church. Discussion centred on social service work by the church as it applies to the smaller com- munities. Mrs. T. Lavender convened the program and Mrs. J. P. Gandon chaired the meet- ing. 50 Years Ago NOVEMBER, 1916 Mr, Frank Jeffrey left the Bluewater Highway for Chat- ham, where he has accepted a position with a carriage com- pany. For the past three years no one question has passed through the minds of the general public as much as that of the high cost of Iiving. It has been officially an- nounced that the 161st Huron Battalion has arrived safely in England. Private A. W. Archibald, of Seaforth, a former principal of the Zurich Public School, has been announced es being wounded overseas. A number of businessmen in Z u r i c h and Hensall are con- sidering a policy of strictly cash or trade in their operations, since the act of giving credit is getting out of all reason. Now, however, the warm sun has come back and made the white flakes disappear rather quickly. 25 Years Ago NOVEMBER, 1951 Mr, and Mrs. Whitney Brok- enshire have recently moved into the house in Zurich which they purchased and which was previously occupied by the Dagg family. Dr. A. J. Addisson, Ross and Wellington Johnston and Len Rau spent a day up in Bruce County on a deer hunting ex- pedition, and were fortunate to bag three of them on their one - day outing. Dr. R. Hobbs Taylor, of Dash- wood, has been elected as the new president of the Huron County Medical Society, replac- ing Dr. P. J. O'Dwyer, of Zur- ich, who has held the position for some time. Mrs. Ge or g e Yungblut, a former prominent resident of Hensall, died Sunday at the home of her daughter in Han- over. Mrs. Clayton Smith, of the Bluewater Highway, picked a large quantity of ripe raspber- ries in her garden last week. Ray Fisher, just south of Zur- ich, has returned home from a visit to Ottawa, which he was awarded for having a prize- winning hog shipped to the Coleman Company in London. 15 Years Ago NOVEMBER, 1951 , On Sunday evening Rt. Rev. A. P. Mahoney, Vicar General of London Diocese, dedicated a plaque in St. Boniface Church, Zurich, in memory of the late Father Aubrey Lucier, who was pastor at St. Boniface from 1942 until his sudden death. Robert Bell, of near King- ston, has arrived in Zurich to take up a position with the local Bank of Montreal. Hay Township councillor V. L. The Jeffrey contractors of the Bluewater Highway, have added extra staff to their force to complete all their outside work before thecolder w e a t h e r sets in. Elgin McKinley, of the Gosh- en Line north, was the guest speaker when the Zurich EUB Church observed their annual men's day. Mal c o l m Dougall, Hensall area farmer, was admitted to St. Joseph's Hospital, London, on Friday after his Ieft hand became mangled in a corn picker. On Friday morning the peo- ple of Zurich were suddenly aroused when the fire alarm went off. The chimney on the home of Mr. and Mrs. Seth Ammanns was on fire and was quickly extinguished by the brigade. 0 Dashwood Mrs. John Rader, Mrs. Eben Weigand and Mrs. Leonard Schenk attended the Royal Win- ter Fair at Toronto last week for their work in 4-H clubs. This is sponsored by the depart- ment of agriculture for 4-H leaders throughout the province Rev. and Mrs. William Getz and family from Ashland, Wis., were visitors in town last week. The 4L's Sunday school class of the Evangelical UB Church invited their husbands to an evening of bowling at Grand Bend last Tuesday, after which fellowship and lunch were en- joyed at the church. Ac.i � evement Nite Scheduled For Friday, Dec. 2 The 19th annual Huron Coun- ty 4-H Achievement Night will be held in the Seaforth District High School, Seaforth, en Fri- day, December 2, commencing at 8 p.m, John Bradley, a member of the Lucknow 4-H Dairy Calf Club, who represented Ontario at the national 4-H conference, will address the Huron County 4-H members, Entertainment will be pro- vided by the Turnberry 4-H Calf Club 4-H demonstration team. All Huron County 4-H Agri- cultural Club members who completed a project in 1966 will receive their awards on this oc- casion. Of the 412 4-H projects started in 25 4I1 Agricultural clubs last spring, 93.4% were brought to a successful con- clusion. Everyone who has an inter- est in the 4-H program is in- vited to attend the achievement night. 0 Goshen Women Discuss New Book The Goshen United Church Women inet at the home of Mrs. Anson McKinley Thursday night, November 17. Mrs. Elgin McKinley opened the meeting. Hymn 399, "Faith of our fathers living still", was sung. Psalm 703 was read in unison. Mrs. Richard Robinson led in prayer. Mrs. Bob Peck read a clip- ping, "Experiences of a preach- er on Skidrow". The new study book, "The Church Grows in Canada", was introduced by Mrs. Elgin McKinley, and Mrs. George Simons introduced the book, "Into a Nation". Mrs. Bob Peck conducted the business. Minutes were read and approved. Mrs. Elmer Hay- ter gave a report on the sec- tional meeting held in the church on October 27. Mrs. Bruce Keys, Mrs. Jim Keyes and Mrs. Bob Peck gave a report on the group they were in. A `thank you' card was read from Mr. and Mrs. Doug Robin- son and family.
