Heimrich, Ayton, and Mrs. Fred E. Haberer, Zurich, recently attended the fall convocation exercises held at the Univers- ity of Western Ontario. Ron, a former Zurich resident and now principal of Stephen Cen- tral School, received his Bach- elor of Arts diploma during the graduation. In the evening the Heimrich and Haberer families enjoyed dinner at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich, and later a get- together at the Heimrich home in Exeter. Quite often television stations receive calls and letters com- plaining about types of pro- grams; .the times they sched- uled; various personalities and commercials. .A recent letter to the editor in the London Free Press was headed "TV's Rude Noises", and complained about commer- cials. In part, here is the let- ter: "I was specially annoyed last evening, while at dinner when Pierre Berton was on, (CFPL-TV London), to have a commercial come on with such power that the din was deafen- ing. In our home, when com- mercials offend us by noise or in taste, then we are marking down the name of the sponsor to make sure we shall never again buy his product until he learns some semblance of the good manners expected from a guest in one's home". Having just returned from Europe, I had the opportunity of watching television in two different countries, n a me l y England and Belgium. It's true that these countries are far ahead of us in many, many dif- ferent ways, but the people in the United States and Canada don't know how lucky they are as far as television program- ming is concerned. We can be entertained almost 24 hours every day in .the week. .Pro- grams of an educational nature are available too. In the two countries mentioned, the lack of commercials means a lack of entertaining programs. The person who wrote the Ietter to the editor didn't think, or is a moron. And that non- sense about writing down the names of sponsors and not buy- ing the product is so much BS, You've never had television so good. And anyone who thinks the same way as the writer of the letter is stupid, too. illialleiSSEInstemsdsazzazacartlEaerdszaims Fail Rally of Women's institutes Held Monday iin Hensall Town Hai The fall board meeting of South Huron Women's Institute was held in the Town Hall, Hen- sall, on Monday, November 7, with 25 members present.
