IN THIS CORNER WE HAVE
PEAR DORIS -- When my
father becomes angry, he uses
my mother for his punching
bag. So, when she does voice
an opinion he states that in
order for her to live with him,
she must change.
My mother is so wonderful.
Besides being an excellent
cook, she does all the farm
work and is one in a million.
My father is the greatest when
in a good mood. However,
when lie is angry he says all
sorts of things. Then he says
he is sorry. But we know he
is not.
The reason why my father
uses my mother for his punch-
ing is that she does not have a
high school education and he
does not have too much respect
for her,
All that my mother does for
us and him makes me wonder
why he does these things. She
even cuts his toenails, finger-
nails, and shaves him. He takes
all these things for granted.
Tired of Bickering
DEAR TIRED -What a pamp-
ered despot he turned out to
be! Sounds like the Sheik of
Araby,
My long distance diagnosis is
that you S. of A's. temper starts
with his anger at himself. His
mate has been his whipping boy
for years. And why is he an-
gry? Because that inner voice
keeps reminding him of his
deep inferiority beside his ca-
pable ministering angel he has
married.
If her strength had includ-
ed the ability to discipline a
bully, the "punching bag role
would have been nipped in the
bud.
Even now she could bring
about change. Physical abuse
justifies police protection; and
a skilled counsellor could help
her raise her spoiled boy to be
"the greatest" all the time.
Apologies are not good enough.
DEAR DORIS--I am 15 and
part of a clique of eight girls
in our room at school. We do
everything together and it is
getting kind of sickening. We
are known as grade 11 snobs,
or goodie -goodies. At dances
we are avoided.
We have our own hen parties.
We smoke, drink (a bit), but
not in public, so they think we
are dull drags. We are popular
with out-of-town boys who just
haven't heard about this clique
bit. They think we are ordin-
ary fun -to -be -with kids.
How can we get rid of being
called grade 11 snobs?
Boy It Hurts!
DEAR IT HURTS! - So now
we have to exhibit ourselves
waving a fag, or a glass before
our classmates will accept us!
For my money, the winners are
the ones who serenely stick
with their principles.
True sophistication is not to
drink, nor to smoke, but to so-
cialize without giving up on an
ideal. Have you been, may -
hap without knowing it, casting
Zurich 4-H Girls
Study Home Plans
The third meeting of the
Zurich 4-H girls was held at
the home of Mrs. Jim Parkins
on September 22, at 7 p.m.
The meeting began with the
4-H pledge. The minutes were
Iater read by Nancy Rae Mc-
Kinnon. The former rotary
secretary chose Annette Zim-
mer to take her place.
The group had toannounce
a menu (in turn, of course)
which they made up themselves.
They later discussed the food
guide for health on vegetables;
bread cereals, and vitamin D.
Marg Geiger demonstrated
c odd 1 e d apples, while Mrs.
Parkins made prune chiffon
pie.
The meeting was closed at

DEAR DORIS --- I have a
daughter aged seven, and two
younger boys. My daughter
has never asked any questions
about "facts of life" What I
would like to know is what do
you do when they don't ask?
I don't want to sit her down
like a Dutch uncle and scare
the wits out of her like my
mother did me when I was 1,0.
I was never prepared for mar-
riage or life, etc., and I vowed
this would never happen to my
children.
Surely at the age of seven
there must be things that she
is curious about.
Mother of Three
DEAR MOTHER - Most
youngsters are curious; but
some get the idea that anything
related to sex is "bad", Some
will not let themselves think
about sex matters.
Open the subject casually.
Something like this: "Isn't it
nice that Mrs. X is going to
have a baby. How do you sup-
pose she is going to get it?"
To Bride's Mother -It is still
proper for the bride's parents
to pay for the wedding. The
custom was established because
this was an event which took
place in the bride's home,where
the groom' came to carry her
off.
But if finances indicate the
gracious acceptance of some
proffered contribution from the
groom's father, it won't snake
the marriage any less legal.
r `r
DEAR DORIS --- I am a sec-
retary, My boss burns me up.
lIe tells me to make a phone
call then hangs over nae while
I talk. Tells me every word to
say.
Then if the answers from the
other end don't please him, it's
my fault. I'm so jittery over
,his crabbiness I'd like to tell
him to take his job and jump
in the lake with it.
Unnerved
DEAR UNNERVED - Try
time. And the next time he
scolds, walk away from him.
Bosses who grouch, scowl,
disapprove, hold up their own
production. No pay cheque can
make up for the depression
they cause.
To Shower Shenanigans -
Here's one: Supply each guest
with paper and pencil, Allow
10 minutes to get as many
words as possible out of the
names of bride and groom -
suck as, Earl and Mary. The
one who makes the most dic-
tionary -approved words out of
the eight letters of the two
