The Varna 4.11 Club met on
Saturday last at the home of
Mrs. William D o w s o n. The
meeting opened with the 4-11
pledge and each member an-
swered the roll call with a
"Good Food Habit". The mem-
bers decided to call themselves
"The Mealtime Maids". The
discussion was based on "the
reason for food guide health".
The girls made a scalloped
dish, a white sauce and erou-
tons, with the aid of their
leaders. The meeting closed
with the 4-H creed.

The UCW met in the church

group three in charge, Mrs.
Mervyn Hayter opened the

meeting with Prayer, Mrs. Ralph
Stephenson gave a thanksgiving
.thought, Mrs. Charles Reid gave
the meditation, "Count your
many blessings". The 'Scripture
lesson was read by Mrs. John
Ostrom. Mrs. Gordon Johnston
gave a thanksgiving poem and
also took up the offering, which
was dedicated by Mrs. John
Ostrom.
Mrs. Mer v y n Hayter took
charge of the business session
when plans were made regard-
ing the booth which they are
sponsoring at the plowing
match. The ladies were re-
minded of the Huron Presby-
terial to :be held in Goshen
United Church this month.
Thirty-three calls were :made
to sick and shut-ins during the
month. Mrs. Ralph Stephenson
closed the meeting with prayer,
and group two served lunch.

OCTOBER, 1916
One dollar and forty-eight
cents per bushel is being paid
for good wheat this week at the
Zurich Flour Mills. This price
is as good as is being paid on
the Toronto market at the pres-
ent time.
Mr. R. F. Stade has recently
moved into the residence he
purchased from Mr. W. Bender,
of Detroit.
Area merchants are paying
eight cents a pound for good
dutch sets.
The household effects of Mrs.
D. S. Faust in Zurich were sold
by public auction last week,
and Mrs. Faust is moving to
Dashwood to live.
All the poles for the hydro
power are now in position be-
tween Exeter and Hensall, and
the people should have this
service available soon.
The brickwork on the new
home of James Johnson, in
Hensall, is now complete and
they should be able• to occupy
the same shortly.
Ed Bossenberry has purchased
a new Ford car from the agency
of Fred Preeter, in Dashwood.

OCTOBER, 1926
The ladies of the Luthern
Church in Zurich have decided
to hold a fowl supper in their
new church shed next month,
and this promises to be a big
event in the history of the com-
munity.
A very pretty wedding was
solemnized on Saturday when
Dorothy Hannah Fritz became
the bride of Dr. Harvey Cowen.
The couple will reside in the
village, where the latter is prac-
ticing dentistry.
Harry Arnold, a well-known.
business man in the Hensall
area, and of late years the man-
ager of the Bank of Montreal,
has resigned his position and
will remain a resident of Hen-
sall.
The price of gasoline has
dropped two cents a gallon,
which is not uncommon this
time of year, since there are
fewer people motoring now
than in the busy summer sea-
son.
Albert "Babe" Siebert, who
has spent the sumrner months
with his parents in Zurich, left
on Monday for Montreal where
he will fulfill his contract with
the Montreal Maroons team,
who last year won the world's
title, and Babe was one of their
outstanding players.

Mr. Milne Rader is holding
an auction sale of his farm
stock and machinery next
Wednesday, after which they
will move into their comfort-

chased in the village of Zurich.
Mr. Archie MacKinnon left
for Guelph this week where he
will resume his studies at the
veterinary college.

Mr. Fred Thiel has disposed
of his fine red brick business
and residential block in the vil-
lage of Zurich, to Charles Thiel,
who has plans for the building
in the near future.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hess,
bridal couple, have returned
home after a pleasant wedding
trip to northern Ontario.
Mr. Louis Montague has left
the Drysdale area for Burwash,
where he has accepted a posi-
tion as a guard at the big pris-

A record crowd thronged to
the Bayfield fall fair last week,
to help celebrate the 100th an-
niversary of the event.
Mr. Jack Haberer has left
Zurich for Dublin, North Caro-
lina, where he will be attend-
ing the Duke University, fol-
lowing his courses in economics.
Mrs. R. Vanstone, of Hensall,
had the misfortune to fracture
her right arm while cranking
a car at their home. She has
a cast on the arm.
