BRIDE HONORED
Saturday, August 27, Mrs,
Bert McBride entertained at a
trousseau tea honoring her
daughter Gail. Mrs, Bert Mc-
Bride, Gail, and Mrs, Delmer
Skinner, mother of the groom,
received the guests.
The tea table was lovely with
a lace cloth centred with a sit=
ver bowl of pink and white
If one could turn back the
clock, then last Sunday was a
day to re -live and re -view. Su-
perb color television shows took
up our time and it was worth-
while.
On CTV there was that film
spectacular "The Bridge on the
River Kwai", starring Alex
Guinness, who won the academy
award for his portrayal of the
prideful British colonel.
During the late afternoon and
evening, I 'watched segments of
shows from many channels.
Color was excellent. For ad-
venture I saw "Tarzan", parts
of "Walt Disney", "The Mon-
kees", "The Ed Sullivan Show"
and "The Garry Moore Comedy
Hour".
There was only one program
— CTV's "Brand: New Scene"
—which was a complete waste
of time. This was my second
occasion for watching this flop
of the season. Take it off now
and give us "Telepoll" or re-
runs of "The Littlest Hobo", or
something.
But getting back to the three-
hour movie which played on
ABC as well as CTV, it is inter-
esting to note that Guinness
had turned down the role—not
once, but three times. At first
he didn't like the script; then
he thought it was anti-British
and finally he said he just didn't
like the role. The producer,
Sam Spiegel, talked him into it
and, of course, Guinness was
tremendous.
Jackie Gleason has signed
Phil- Silvers, Patti Page, Pat
Boone and Orson Bean for guest
appearances on his show . .
Bob Hope will appear on Mil-
ton Berle's show on October 7
Peggy Lee, a guest for Ed
Sullivan October 23, will also
be in a segment of "The Girl
From U.N.C.L.E." this season
. . . Dinah Shore, now singing
on the night-club circuit, visits
Dean Martin in October, one of
her rare •appearances on TV
these days.
