Starting September 6, ABC
television will begin showing 16
new series. They are shows set
in the past, Present and future
and range from anthology and
westerns to science, fiction and
drama.
Among the new shows is one
bracketing all eras -"The Time
Tunnel". The setting is Circa
1968, but via the Time Tunnel,
a scientific project constructed
in a desert, time has no limita-
tions.
The Milton Berle Show will
start early in September and
youth will be represented by
regulars Bobby Rydell and Don-
na Loren.
ABC has several active par-
ticipants in the war on poverty.
The champion is Phyllis Pruitt,
of "The Pruitts of Southamp-
ton". They are Having tax
problems. Nothing minor -an
eight -digit debt owed the gov-
ernment. Phyllis Diller is the
head of the family, but she can
add better than that. The tax
errors were made by 90 -year-
old Uncle Ned, played by Regi-
nald Gardiner. "The Pruitts"
fight poverty from their Long
Island mansion every Tuesday
at 9 p.m.
David and Julie Willis, stellar
characters in "Love on .a Roof-
top", are also fighting a poverty
war - small -budget variety - as
newlyweds trying to live on the
groom's salary, a modest $85
a week. This program will be
pre -released on Kitchener' s
Channel 13 every Tuesday at
9 p.m.
A western -adventure series
with a bigger -than life hero is
"Iron Horse", starring Dale
Robertson as Ben Calhoun, who

another ABC show that will be
pre -released on CKCO-TV on
Fridays at 7:30.

new fall shows in a week or

AUGUST, 1916
A handsome new porchhas
been added to the Lutheran
parsonage in Zurich to take the
place of the old one, and this
greatly adds to the appearance
of the dwelling.
Samuel J. Spencer has sold
his 100 -acre farm at St. Joseph
to Louis Denomme, the consid-
eration being $5100.
Julius Bloch, of Zurich, has
sold his fine 150 -acre farm, sit-
uated on the Goshen Line south,
to David Ducharme, the present
tenant, for the sum of $8600.
Four weeks from Saturday
the Ontario Temperance Act
will come into force, when the
whole province will go dry.
A number of Indians have
been secured by 0. Geiger at
Hensall for the pulling of flax.
Hugh Buchanan, of Hensall,
has purchased the goodwill and
business of T. Neelands, pub-
lisher and editor of the Hensall
weekly paper for the past 21
years.

AUGUST, 1926
The congregation of the Evan-
gelical Church in Zurich re-
ceived to their great surprise
the resignation of Rev. W. B.
Dengis, who came to the charge
in April of 1925, a Iittle over
a year ago.
E. E. Wuerth, the merchant
tailor in Zurich, has purchased
the property from John Hey
Jr., in the east end of the vil-
lage. He plans to go into
chicken raising and truck farm-
ing.
There passed away at Hensall
on Saturday William Howard, a
formerly highly respected citi-
zen of Hay Township before
retiring to Hensall
Wilbert Johnston, the enter-
prising fox raiser in Stanley
Township, has returned home
from a motor trip through On-
tario.
The harvest progress has been
very slow in the arca, due to
the continued wet and cold
weather. Most of the oats and
barley are still standing in the
fields, 'waiting to be threshed.
25 Years Ago
AUGUST, 1941
Word was received of the
passing of a former Zurich old
boy, in the person of Jacob
Schnell, who died at his home
in Ayton at the age of 84.
All the barbers in this part
of Huron County held a meet-
ing in Zurich on Monday night
and agreed to raise the price
of haircuts to 35 cents„ with
the price for children being 25
cents,
Word has been received of
the drowning of Albert White -
sides, who was born and raised
in Hensall, and also received
his early education in the same
place.
Surveyors are busy doing
some work on a strip of prop-
erty near St. Joseph, where the
rumor has it that another air-
port will be constructed.
The fine new storage build-
ing erected by Stade & Weido
on Victoria Street in Zurich is
now completed. and with its
high walls of concrete and
metal roof it has a very fine
appearance.

AUGUST, 1951
Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Schilbe
and son Kenneth, who have
been residents of Zurich prac-
tically all their married life,
have left the village and taken
up residence in London.

Dr. and Mrs. B, Campbell, of
Toronto, who are holidaying in
the area at present, called on
friends in the village last week.
It is about 31 years since Dr.
Campbell left Zurich for To-
ronto.
Len Prang, Clarence Farwell,
Ross Johnston, Gideon Koehler
and Victor Edighoffer spent
the past week -end on a fishing
trip to Meaford and came home
with a real fine catch of lake
trout.
Mr. and Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan
and daughters ,of Dashwood,
enjoyed a motor trip last week
through the Thousand Islands
area and other points in eastern
Ontario.

AUGUST, 1956
The Dashwood Tigers are sit-
ting pretty in their round-robin
playoff series with Mitchell,
leading by two games. The
winner will play the Zurich
Lumberkings for the league
championship.
The Misses Carol Thiel, Mar-
garet Schade and Kathryn
Klopp, all of Zurich area, and
Philip Charrette, of the Blue
Water Highway, have all been
successful in passing their up-
per school, grade 13, examina-
tions.
Rev. Father Monaghan offi-
ciated at the double ring mar-
riage ceremony in St. Boniface
Church, for Mary Catherine
Meidinger and Gerard Joseph
Ducharme.
Mr. and Mrs. John E. Bannis-
ter and family have returned to
Zurich after spending their va-
cation in eastern Ontario with
members of their families.
More than 150 persons at-
tended the annual Thiel re-
union held on Civic Holiday at
Stratford Park.

Gingerich Family
Hold Reunion At
Riverview Park
Gingerich family picnic was
held at Riverview Park, Exeter,
on Sunday, August 14, with 54
present.
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ginger-
ich, Mr. and Mrs. Clayton Stec-
kle and Mrs. and Mrs, Harvey
Martin were in charge. A pie-
nic lunch was enjoyed by all,
after which there was a .short
program with Harvey Martin as
chairman.
A trio, Miss Pauline Ginger-
ich, Mrs, Donna Longs and
Mrs. Ruth Martin rendered
three selections in song. Ervin
Gingerich reminded the group
that each one is getting •rider,
and gave a brief history of the
Gingerich family.
Alfred Ropp and sons Wayne,
Howard and Mervyn then gave
several guitar musical selec-
tions. The program was dosed
appointing a committee for a
similar picnic in 1967: Mr, and
Mrs. Alfred Ropp, Mr, and. Mrs.
Curtis Gingerich.
