THURSDAY, AUGUST IL IS
EXCAVATING FOR LAKE — One of the finest picnic
locations in this part of Huron County is being created •on
the farm of V. L. Becker, in the northeast part of Stanley
Township. Workmen have been busy at the site during
the past few weeks digging out a man-made lake, which
should provide an ideal swimming spot for the youngsters.
Many groups have already taken advantage of the facilities
at the Becker farm to hold their picnic or reunion.
A BUSY SPOT— One of the busiest places all through
the summer months is Bayview Golf Course, a half -mile south
of St. Joseph. This long line-up of cars on an ordinary day
indicates the number of people who have taken up the
popular summer sport of golf. At the present time Bay-
view is just a nine -hole course, but the owners are now
talking about increasing this to an 18 -hole project.

meet Dolores in the final for
the women's club champion-
ship,
In the junior all have been
eliminated except Richard
Schilbe and Doug Coxon. Tee -

from town property behind the

Mr. Davis will be on holidays
from August 15 for two weeks,
and John Jarrott will take over
some of his duties.
The question of adequate
policing of Hensall came under
discussion. The Liquor Control
Board grants a subsidy of about
$100 to be used toward polic-
ing the town as it no doubt
finds that wherever there are
liquor outlets there will be need
of proper police protection.
There seems to be a great deal
of red tape and book work in
connection with apprehending
offenders and the law is too
lenient in punishment.

Harold Knight reported that
a smoke ejection fan could be
purchased on .approval. He also
reported a meeting in Seaforth

ested in a mutual aid program,

drawn up and tenders would
soon be let. There will be a
meeting September 12, in coun-
cil chambers to appoint a com-
mittee to plan the centennial
celebrations.
Mr. Campbell read the cor-
respondence which showed by
the last census that Hensall has
a population of 925. He also
reported Professor James Scott's
history of Huron County is on
sale.
It was moved by Oliver
Jaques and seconded by John
Baker that Ira Geiger's barn
and lot of approximately 66
feet by 132 feet be purchased
for $2000..
Motion to accept the report
of the Koehler drain works and
accept Hensall's assessment of
$450 was made by Harold
Knight, seconded by Oliver
Jaques.
Building permits were issued
to Keith Buchana for building
to Keith Buchanan for building
remodelling his house; Orval
Rapson for building a car port;
W. H. Bell for new siding on
his house.
Motion to pay bills amounting
to $6,024.61 was made by Knight
and Jaques. The meeting was

In last week's activities, Mit-

victory on their home diamond,
Wednesday night. Playing back
in Zurich on Sunday afternoon,
the locals pulled a real thriller
when they scored four runs in
the last of the ninth inning, to
eke out a 4-3 victory.
Tho big rally came in the
ninth after one was out Phil
Overholt started the halt roll-
ing with a single, and then

Naughton both walked. Dick
Bedard and Rick Stade both
singled to push two runs across
the plate. The big blow was
then delivered by George Hag-
gitt, pinch-hitting for Jim Pfaff:
He lined out a single to score
the tieing and winning run.
