Hospital, London, where she
was a patient, having under-
gone surgery.
The staff and employees of
General Coach Works of Can-
ada are on vacation for this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Alfred J. Smith,
of Hensall, and Mr. and Mrs,
Richard Tipping, London, spent
the week -end holidaying with
Mrs. Pearl Hedden and family
at St. Catharines, and other
relatives.
Mrs. Cornelius Cook is a pa-
tient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter.
Mrs. William Hooper, Grand
Bend, visited for a week with
her father, George Smale.
Celebrating their 25th wed-
ding anniversary, Mr. and Mrs.
Dave Kyle and family enjoyed
a two weeks' vacation at Wawa
and the west coast.
Mrs. George Walker has re-
turned from Victoria Hospital,
London, where she underwent
eye surgery. Before returning
Thome she visited with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr.
and Mrs. George Gould, Lon-
don.

School Reunion at
Tuckersmith Site
A school reunion at SS 10,
Tuckersmith, was 'held on Sun-
day, with 225 former pupils and
teachers present. Alex Mac-
Gregor gave a few words of
welcome and Mrs. Harry Cald-
well read the history of the
school.
Mrs. Ken McKay and Mrs.
Robert Kinsman conducted a
sports program.
The former teacher coming
the farthest was Earl Brears, of
Acton. The formerP

ing the farthest was Mrs. Myrtle
E. (Eyre) Coffin, of California.
The oldest former pupil was
Mrs. John MacGregor, of Sea -
forth. The oldest former pupil
with the largest family present
was Mr. Robert MacLean, of
Kippen.
The youngest pupil -to -be was
Miss Barbara MacGregor, of
Kippen. The person having a
birthday at reunion time was
Mrs. Alex MacGregor.
Former teachers present at
the reunion were: Mrs. Alf
Johnston, of Seaforth; Mrs.
Robert Simpson, Hensall;
Claude Blowes, Preston; Mrs.
Harry Caldwell, Hensall; Mrs.
Glen Goth, Sarnia; Earl Brears,
Acton; Mrs. Herb Britton, Dub-
lin; Mrs, Edison Forrest, Hen-
sall.
Mrs. Alex MacGregor and
Mrs. Vern Alderdice thanked
everyone who helped in any
way to make the reunion a
success.

enjoyed a month's trip to the
west coast and California, re-
turning by United States. While
in Saskatoon they were guests
of Mrs, Shirray's uncle and
aunt, Mr. and Mrs, Arthur
Johns, and family.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Rigby, Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Knights, Stewart
and Jane, of Blenheim; Mr. and
Mrs. Terry North and Teresa,
St. Thomas; Mr. and Mrs. Stew-
art McQueen, of Hensall, spent
Civic holiday week -end with
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Snell.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Hansen,
Stratford; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
were week -end visitors with
Mrs. Violet Schwalm and Ray.
O'Hara and Peter, of London,
William R. Bell has returned
from a three weeks' pleasant
visit with his daughter and son-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John D.
Brown, and family of Omemee,
and with his brother, Elliott
Bell, of Carnarvon, in the Hali-
burton district.

Obituary
ALEX DOIG
From St. Petersburg, Florida,
comes word of the death in
Mound Park Hospital in that
city of Alexander M c L a r en
Doig, a native of Tuckersmith,
who rose to positions of influ-
ence in the United States as a
lawyer and as an administrator
in the U.S. Department of Im-
migration.
Mr. Doig was the youngest
and last survivor of six sons
and one daughter of the late
John Doig, of Kippen, and his
wife, the late Ellen McKay. He
was born on October 27, 1884,
and at the time of death had
attained the age of 81 years and
eight months.
Mr. Doig completed his ele-
mentary schooling at SS 2,
Tuckersmith and then attended
Clinton Collegiate Institute. At
the age of 16 he accompanied
his uncle, William McLaren
Doig, now deceased, to Detroit
where both enrolled in Detroit
College of Law.
After graduation both began
the practice of law at Sault
Ste. Marie, Michigan. The part-
nership continued for several
years until A. M. Doig entered
the employ of the U.S. govern-
ment where he held positions
of increasing responsibility in
the immigration service until
his retirement 40 years later.
In 1910, while serving with
U.S. Immigration at Gladstone,
Michigan, Mr. Doig was married
to Nellie Farrell of that city.
Their one child, a son, John
McLaren Doig, died of acciden-
tal injuries at Walled Lake,
Michigan, six years ago. Mrs.
Nellie Doig passed away at St.
Petersburg in November, 1956.
From 1921 through 1934 Mr.
Doing served as chief immigra-
tion inspector at the Port of
Detroit. From 1935 through
1943 he was assistant district
director for the State of Illinois
and from 1943 until his retire-
ment in 1948 he was assistant
director of Immigration Serv-
ices for the Rocky Mountain
area with headquarters at Den-
ver. Following retirement, Mr.
Doig and wife resided at Fern -
dal and Cass Lake, Michigan,
until 1955 when they moved to
St. Petersburg, Florida.
At the time of his death, Mr.
Doig was a member of the
Lakeview Presbyterian Church
of St. Petersburg and of the
local chapter of retired govern-
mental employees. He was also
a member of the St. Petersburg
Stamp Collectors' Club.
Mr.,Doig is survived locally
by his niece, Mrs. Harry Cald-
well, of Hensall.

ville Traquair.
John Soldan is a patient in
St. Joseph's Hospital, London.
Farewell Party
A farewell party for Mrs. K.
Lagerwerf, in the (form of a
picnic, was held at Lions Park,
Seaforth, Wednesday, attended
by 18. A delicious turkey din-
ner, with all the trimmings,
was served and a social evening
spent. Gifts were presented to
Mrs. Lagerwerf who left for
Holland Friday after a four
months' vacation spent in Can-
ada with her sister and brother-
in-law, Mr, and Mrs. Sim Roobol
of Hensall, and with other rela-
tives in other centres. Attend-
ing the party were Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Watson, Mr. and Mrs.
W. T. Dodds, Mr. and Mrs. Don
Dodds and Lynne, Seaforth;
Mr. and Mrs. Fred MacGregor,
Larry, Glenn and Karen, Bruce -
field; Mr. and Mrs. Clendon

William McKay
Funeral service for the late
William McKay was held from
Bonthron funeral home, Tues-
day, July 26, conducted by Rev.
H. F. Currie, with burial in Ross
Cemetery, Brucefield, The late
Mr. McKay, who made his home
for the past twenty years with
Mr. Oliver and Miss Margaret
McKay in Tuckersmith Town-
ship, passed away Sunday in
Clinton Public Hospital, where
he had been admitted as a pa-
tient the day previous. He was
in his 91st year and is survived
by several nieces and nephews.
HEADED FOR THE PIPELINE — This huge metal
tank, which is shown in this photo sitting on a railway car
at the Hensall CNR station, is to be used on the Lake Huron
pipeline, north of Grand Bend. Built by the Dominion
Bridge Company, the tank is the first of several which will

Garnet Allan underwent sur-
gery on his sight hand at St.
Joseph's Hospital, London, Fri-
day morning, August 5.
Mr. and Mrs. R. Westdrop,
Elimville; Mr. and Mrs. John
Lagerwerf and family, of Park-
hill, were guests Sunday with.
Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol.

Alex Munn was admitted to
St. Joseph's Hospital, London,
on Saturday with a broken right
ankle, sustained in an accident
on his farm. He was working
on the grain when he fell
through a ladder in the barn
landing on the granary. He
fell a distance of 20 feet.
William A. MacLaren
William A. MacLaren, Goder-
ich, a former Hensall business-
man, passed away in St. Jo-
seph's Hospital, London, on
Saturday, August 6. Surviving
are his wife, the former Pearl
Drysdale, of Hensall; two daugh-
ters, Mrs. Robert (Lois) Mac-
Donald and Mrs. Marion Thorne-
loe, London; one brother, R. Y.
MacLaren, Hensall. Service
was held Tuesday from Stiles
funeral home, Goderich, with
burial in Hensall Union Ceme-
tery.
