Women Teachers
AnnualBanquet
Held in Hensall
The annual banquet of Huron
2 and 3 Association of Federat-
ed Women Teachers Association
of Ontario was held in the
Fellowship Hall of the Hensall
United Church, Thursday eve-
ning, June 16. Hostesses were
women teachers of Hay Town-
ship School Area.
Dinner speaker, Miss Angela
Armitt, director of extension
courses at Western University,
chose for her theme, "Catch a
falling star ancl put it in your
pocket for a rainy day". She
delighted her audience with her
humorous, witty and inspiring
address.
Soloist was Miss Cheryl Stade,
of Zurich, accompanied by Mrs.
Fred Haberer.
Retiring teachers who had
served in the executive were
honored: Mrs. Loretta Taylor,
Dashwood; Mrs. Mary Morris,
Clinton; Mrs. Mary Haugh,
Brucefield; Mrs. Verna Hicks,
Centralia; Mrs. A. W. Shirray,
Hensall. They were presented
with corsages and Stirling sil-
ver coffee spoons by president
Miss Helen Didean, of Goderich.
Reports and business of the
year followed. Unit 3 of the
UCW catered for the dinner.
Guests were Rev. and Mrs.
Harold Currie.

JUNE 1916
Among the successful stu-
dents at Stratford Normal Col-
lege were: Misses Frieda Kalb-
fleisch, Olive O'Brien and Helen
Brisson.
The explosion of a large glass
carboy of sulphuric acid at the
Hensall station on Wednesday
morning caused injury to three
persons, Conductor D i m e n t,
Clark Smith and 0. Twitchell.
The carboy was taken from the
north bound train and it is
thought the intense heat caused
it to explode,
Burglars entered the store of
J. Preeter the other night but
as far as can be learned they
did not carry off much. No
trace of them has been found.
A presentation to teacher
Miss E. Stinson was made by
the students and section of SS
11, Hay. She was given a half
dozen silver knives and forks,
and the pupils gave a short and
interesting program. Miss Stin-
son has taught there for two
years and has become very at-
tached to the children of her
school.

JUNE, 1926
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Eickmeier
and family, of Mitchell, and Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Ahiems and fam-
ily, of Sebringville, were Sun-
day visitors at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Eickmeier.
Judge Lewis, of Goderich,
was in the village on Monday
on business.
Mr. and Mrs. George Pletch
and Mr, and Mrs. H. H. Stein-
bach, of Detroit, who are stay-
ing at the Imperial Hotel, Grand
Bend called at the home of Mr.
and Mrs. R. F. Stade.
Mr, Dan Truemner, of the
Goshen Line south, has sold his
100 -acre farm to Mr. Harrington

JUNE, 1941
The new teacher engaged by
the Zurich school board is Miss
Norma Paisley, of the Stouff-
ville district, and she has had
previous teaching experience,
Mr, Harold Stade, of Strat-
ford, and friend, Mr. Richard
Powley, formerly of Dundas,
spent a pleasant week -enol at
the home of the fomer's par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Stade.
Mrs. Ida Appel, of New Ham-
burg, a former resident of Zur-
ich, is enjoying a few weeks'
visit with friends and relatives
here.
Mr. Theodore Rader, of the
Goshen Line south, has recent-
ly erected a new house on the
farm on the west side of the
road. We understand that when
completed Mr, and Mrs. Rader
will move into their new home
as their son will live on the
home place.
Howard Smale, of Hensall,
had the misfortune to get his
hand caught in the saw at" the
Spencer & Son planing mill.
He was attended by Dr. Steer
and was taken to Seaforth hos-
pital where one finger had to
be amputated. Every effort is
being made to save another
finger which was badly injured.
15 Years Ago
JUNE, 1951
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Yungblut,
of Zurich, and Mr, and Mrs.
Wilfred Klopp, of London, mo-
tored to Atlantic City, while
Mr. and Mrs, Victor Dinnin
boarded a plane and flew there
within a few hours, where all
are attending the big Lions In-
ternational convention which is
being held in that city this
week.
Mr. Earl Flaxbard met with
a painful .accident last week
when he caught his finger in
the metal cutting machine in
the workshop at Rader and Mit-
tleholtz Hardware. His finger
was amputated at the first
joint at Seaforth hospital. His
many friends wish him a speedy
recovery.
Miss Mildred Gingerich,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aaron
Gingerich, is taking a training
course in nursing at Toronto.
Miss Norma Steinbach and
brother Edgar, Miss Carol Thiel
and Mr. Albert Hoffman had a
most pleasant visit with the
former's sister, Mrs. James
Hackett, and Mr. Hackett at
Alvinston.

JUNE, 1956
Miss Joyce Witmer, daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. Orville Witmer
of town, was one of 17 graduate
nurses receiving their regis-
tered nurses' diplomas at Strat-
ford General Hospital.. We join
Marion Joyce's many friends in
extending congratulations.

father, the bride chose a white
floor -length gown of organza
over taffeta. The full skirt
was enhanced by appliques of
chantilly lace, with bodice of
chantilly lace, with empire

Mr. Lawrence Bedard and
nephew, Mr. Dale, spent the
week -end at the former's home
in Zurich. Mr. Bedard has
taken a position in Detroit and
will come home on week -ends.
Corporal V. C. Denomy, of
Camp Chilliwack, B.C., has re-
cently been promoted to the
rank of sergeant. He is the

Bridesmaids were Ruthanne
Mc Carte r, Port Credit, and
Yvonne Jaques, Centralia, and
they were gowned identical to
the matron of honor.
Flower girl, Julianne Mc-
Lean, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Gerald McLean, wore a white
organza dress with bow and
cumberbund of candy pink to
match the other attendants. She
wore a bandeau of flowers in
her hair to match the white
basket of pink carnations and
Pinockie mums.
Best man was Laverne Mc-
Carter, brother of the groom.

vin Bower, brother of the bride,
