How many times have net-
work officials heard "I want
more money or I won't play the
role and the program won't be
a success". Many performers
have made this mistake. They
don't use these exact words,
but what they say means the
same thing.
It's been announced that
"The Honeymooners" will re-
turn to the cast of the Jackie
Gleason Show during the 1966-
67 season. Art Carney has
been signed to return to his
role, but negotiations to get
Audrey Meadows to return
f a i 1 e d. Singer - comedienne
Sheila MacRae has been signed
to play the role of Jackie Glea-
son's wife. Although Audrey
part, we have no doubt that
Meadows was perfect for the
Sheila MacRae will do equally
as well.
This seems to happen so of-
ten in show business. Remem-
ber when Chester (Dennis
Weaver left "Gunsmoke" to
have his own television show?
The replacement character fit-
ted in very nicely with Matt
Dillon.
Remember when Carol Bur-
nett left the "Garry Moore
Show" to do bigger and better
things? The following season
she returned for a few guest
appearances and we imagine
she realized her mistake in
quitting the cast.
Remember Toby Robins who
left the panel of "Front Page
Challenge"? She held out for
more money and the CBC said
"nothing doing". She was re-
placed, and very ably too, by
CFRB's Betty Kennedy.
There's one entertainer( and
a great one, too) who didn't
make the mistake of leaving
the star of the show for bigger
things. You can probably think
of some as well . I'm referring
to Rochester who never left
Jack Benny.
Smart man, that Rochester!
Drug Store for some time, has
returned to her home in Clin-
ton where she intends to take
up a course with the School
of Commerce.

Bell does something about it
Quietly— perhaps too quietly— we've been assem-
bling one of Canada's finest teams of scientists
and engineers in our Northern Electric Labor-
atories in Ottawa. (Northern Electric, as you know,
is Bell's manufacturing subsidiary.)
They have already produced new communications
equipment that leads the world: advanced tele-.
phone/intercom sets for business; the world's
smallest fully automatic dial exchange; improved
microwave systems; and other items for which
there was a specific Canadian need. Now you can
see how we not only keep our talent in Canada,
but actually attract bright minds from all over
the world:
We ask them to solve unique and challenging
problems.
Research and Development— one of the reasons
why Bell Communications serve you so well.
