Zurich Citizens News, 1966-06-16, Page 4PAGE FOUR Carmel Group Hold Anniversary The Women's Missionary So- ciety of Carmel Presbyterian Church, Hensall, observed their 76th birthday Monday evening, June 13, and had as their guest speaker, Mrs. W. Congram, of Wingham. She 'chose for her theme, "Total Commitment". The speaker was introduced by Mrs, Harvey Hyde and thanked by Mrs. Malcom Doti - gall. Special guests for the eve- ning were the societies from Ca v en Presbyterian Church, Exeter; Cromarty Presbyterian Church, and Arnold Circle of the church, who were welcomed together with the members by president Mrs. Earl Campbell, who presided for the 'meeting. The devotion, "The Love of •God" was given by Mrs. Percy Campbell. A trio composed of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall, Mrs. Beverly Beaton and Mrs, Pearl Love sang, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ed Munn. A social hour was enjoyed and refreshments served, in- eluding a birthday cake, which was cut by Mrs. George Walker. DASHWOOD and DISTRICT (MRS. E. 14. RADER, Correspondent) Celebrate 90th, Birthday Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Genttner entertained in honor of Mr. Fred Genttner's 90th birthday, Sunday, June 12. Guests were present from Exeter, London, Detroit, Burford and Walker- ton, Dashwood WI Grandmothers were guests at the June meeting of the Dash- wood WI when the historical About People Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Manson, Dundas, spent several days with Mr. and Mrs. Newell Geiger and Mrs, Mary Manson. They vis- ited also with Mrs. Jean Man- son at Exeter and Mends and relatives at Clinton hospital and Huronview. Mr, and Mrs. John Peters and family, of Toronto, were week- end visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Ed Gascho. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy O'Brien spent the week -end in Simcoe with Mr, and Mrs. Bill O'Brien and Jim. Boll call was .answered by naming a pioneer of Dashwood. Mrs. Irvin Rader discussed the motto, "Don't be like the rocking chair, all motion and no progress". She also read appropriate poems. There was a display of hats, books, and scarves made by the 4-H girls. The leaders of the 4-H, Mrs, Eben Weigand and Mrs. Leonard Schenk, and assis- tant leaders, Miss Norma Wei- gand and Miss Diane Weber, were presented gifts on behalf of the Institute during the busi- ness. Mrs. Charles Snell gave the topic, "Things my grandmother Mold me", An old-time musical number was given by several ladies on the committee. Mrs. Leonard Schenk gave current events and also conducted a sing -song, Prizes were given to the grandmother with the youngest grandchild, Mrs. Ervin Sehade; the grandmother with the oldest grandchild, Mrs. Lucinda. Mc - Isaac; grandmother with the most up-to-date dress made by herself, Mrs. Everett Waist; grandmother with the most but- tons, Mrs. Herb Wein; grand- mother with birthday nearest, Mrs. Amelia Klumpp, A spell- ing match was held with Mrs. Emil Becker winner. Mrs. Glen Webb, president, conducted the business. Mrs. Syd Baker gave a report of• the district annual. A Tweedsmuir history workshop will be held at Grand Bend August 16. A party will be held in her honor. A life-long resident of Zurich until going to the nursing home, Mrs,. Weber was a seamstress most of her life and gardening was her favorite hobby. She also was an active worker in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich. She has a family of one son, Morris, Zurich; two daughters, Mrs. Hugh Thiel, Zurich, and Mrs. Gertrude Deters, London. recital for the pupils of Miss Idella Gabel in the Community Centre June 30. Lunch and the "Queen" brought the meeting to a close. Ladies' Aid The regular June meeting of Zion Lutheran Church Ladies' Aid was held Wednesday, June 8, with group three and Mrs. Albert Miller ,convenor, in charge of devotions, topic and lunch. Mrs. Marie Restemayer took as the topic the conclus- ion of Christian discipleship. The president, Mrs. Leonard Schenk, dealt with the business. As this was the final meeting of the season plans were made for catering to a wedding in July and September. The Altar Guild for June is Mrs. Fred Schroeder and Mrs. Elmer Rader. Persona Is Harry Hoffman, Cliff Penhale and Bill Dinnin •have received diplomas this week, having suc- cessfully completed training and examination in Red Cross, in para -medical ambulance care courses.
