The American holiday
brough many Americans to Can-
ada this past week -end but was
not enjoyed as was expected
for the weather was not favor-
able due to high winds and
cold. The water of Lake Huron
was not calm and not favorable
for bathing so not too many
took .the dip they had been
looking forward to, so they had
to look for other amusement
to pass the time.
Almost every home had vis-
itors as many of the Americans
who come to this surrounding
are natives of this parish and
to :them it is enjoyable. We
welcome their calls in our
homes. It is also beneficial to
the business people of the
e, Correspondent
neighboring villages for many
of them are free spenders and
leave much of their money to
boost the Canadian trade.
There were also a large num-
ber of Americans who attended
the Sunday afternoon mass at
the hour of three, •officiated by
a newly ordained priest, the
Rev. Father Richard Charrette,
the sin of Mr. and Mrs. Dennis
Charrette, of this highway south
of St. Joseph. He was assisted
by several priests. The ser-
mon was given by Monsignor
Anthony Durand; he, too, is a
native of this parish. The mass
was attended in a well filled
church after which dinner was
served to nearly two hundred
persons. All was In readiness

for the guests, the meal being
prepared by the CWL, all was
tasty and in order.
The master of ceremonies
was Philip Charrette, a brother
of the young priest, who con-
ducted the ceremony with great
ability, keeping his listeners
amused. All the speakers were
applauded, for each one had a
little story to tell about differ-
ent events or incidents. The
young priest received a hand-
some sum of money which
showed the high esteem all had
for him.
The last priests ordained and
to say their first mass in this
parish were Father Isaac Du-
charme and Father Maxim Bris-
son, which was 48 years ago.
Since the early days of this
parish, one hundred and twenty
years ago, there were from our
forefathers, if our guess is right,
16 priests ordained to the priest-
hood, the last one being Father
Richard Charrette on Saturday
last, a brilliant young priest,
gifted with intelligence and a
good mixer with all. We con-
gratulate him on his priestly de-
cision, leaving a mark of honor
for his parents and as well for
the parish. We wish him well
in his new field of Iabor, and
that each dawn God will be his
guide in his priestly life.
