Miss Mary Payne, of London, spent the week -end at her home here. Patients at the Queensway Nursing Home who recently passed away were Mrs. John (Nellie) Scott, 89, formerly of Grey Township, who died on Saturday, May 21, and Norman MacDonald, of Exeter, who passed away Friday, May 20. Miss Mary Payne received a telephone call on Monday, May 23, from her fiance, Cpl. Gary Merritt, who is stationed in Viet Nam. The call came over radio and telephone and they talked for about five minutes. St. Paul's WA The monthly meeting was held on May 18 at the home of Mrs. Frank Forrest. The rec- tor, Rev. J. P. Gandon, present- ed the last chapter of the study book, "Let God Go Free". It was decided to hold a bake sale and tea on October 22. The next meeting will be held June 15 at the home of Mrs. Mary Taylor. United Church The IOOF and Amber Re- bekah lodges attended divine service Sunday morning last and were addressed by Rev. H. F. Currie, who based his thought rom the subject, "On the As- ension". Miss Suzanne Rannie was soloist. Flowers in the church sanctuary were in lov- ing memory of the late Mrs. Frank Layton, placed by her grand -daughter, Mrs. Gerald Flynn. During the month of June, Gordon Griggs, BA, will occupy the pulpit in Carmel Presby- terian resbyterian Church. During July they will worship in the United Church. A carload of members will attend •a birthday party of the Pride of Huron Lodge, Exeter, on June 1, and a carload went to Brussels on May 24 to at- tend Friendship Night of Brus- sels Morningstar Lodge. Mrs. Garnet Mousseau, who, with her husband and family, are taking up residence in Ridgetown, was presented with a gift. The presentation was made by Mrs. Clarence Volland, Joint Services In Hensall Churches The senior teens Sunday school classes from the United churches of Hensall, Grand Bend and James St., Exeter, held a joint service at the Mary Ellen Chapel, Grand Bend, on May 22, at 11 a.m. This is the chapel built by Mr. Eisenbach as part of his museum. There were around 60 young people present. The teenagers from Hensall had charge of the service with Bob Forrest as leader. Caffrey Cann, Exeter, was guest speaker, basing his re- marks on the parable of the "Good Samaritan". There was a quartet of girls from Hensall and also as duet from Grand Bend. John Goddard read the Scripture and Lois Simmons presided at the organ. 0 Kippen East WI Discuss Motto Kippen East Women's Insti- tute met in the Legion Hall on Wednesday, May 18, with the president, Mrs. Grant MacLean, presiding. Roll call was an- swered by telling an amusing incident while travelling. Delegates appointed to the district annual were Mrs. Bell Mrs. Alderdice, Mrs. Drummond and Mrs. Caldwell. Group lead- ers were Mrs. James Chalmers, Mrs. William Bell, Mrs. Glenn Bell and Mrs. James Drum- mond. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Vern Alderdice and the minutes of the last meeting were read by Mrs. Drummond and approved. The motto, "A drop of ink makes thousands think", pre- pared by Miss Margaret McKay, was read by Mrs. Robert Bell. Mrs. Grant MacLean gave a resume of her trip to officers' conference in Guelph. The two 4-H clubs, which Kip - pen East sponsors, were pres- ent with their leaders and also the mothers of the girls were guests. Lunch was served by the hostesses for the evening, Mrs. Glenn Bell and Mrs. James Mc- Naughton, assisted by the com- mittee, Mrs. ,John McGregor, Mrs. Robert Kinsman, Mrs. Stewart Pepper, Mrs. Vern Al. derdice, Mrs, James Chalmers, Mrs. Jack Sinclair. Obituary MRS. GORDON VICKERS Mrs. Gordon Vickers of New- market, passed away at her home on Saturday, May 21. The former Joyce Scruton, of Hensall, she is survived by her husband, one son, Allan, and a daughter, Cathy, at home. Two sisters are Mrs. P. L. (Mildred) McNaughton and Mrs. Bert (Alma) Horton, Hensall; one brother, Harold Scruton, Port Dover. Funeral service was held on Monday from the Roadhouse & Rose funeral chapel, Newmar- ket, with interment in New- market cemetery. Attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. P. L.
