ST. JOSEPH and DRYSDALE
Alfred Ducharme, Correspondent
April showers bring May
flowers to life but it also causes
much delay to the farmers.
Tie past week was a week in
which many farmers had made
seeding plans but they were
disappointed. There .is nothing
alarming about the farm work
delay, there is yet plenty of
time as we are still in the
month of April.
Many from this parish gath-
ered together for the Grenier-
Ducharme wedding reception
which took place in the Dash-
wood Community Centre on
Saturday last, which was well
attended by many, who took
part tohonor the bridal couple
and to offer them their best
wishes in their new life and
for the years to come. We,
too, on behalf of this surround-
ing join with the many good
wishes.
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ryder,
of London, and two ohildren
were Sunday visitors with Mr,
and Mrs, Leon Bedard.
On Monday last, visitors at
the home of yours truly and
Mrs. Ducharme were from De-
troit, Mrs. Tyrus Stansbury and
Mrs. Lawrence Ducharme.
Already, cottages along the
lake were well filled over the
week -end, perhaps making plans
and cleaning up for the sum-
mer.
Mrs. Morris Durand,of the
14th concession, in company
with Mrs, Dolph Sopha, motored
to Goderieh on Thursday last
on a business trip.
(Continued from last week)
Between the years of 1851
and 1855, we believe about that
time the Canada Company had
sold land to the new settlers
and about that time when they
donated 10 acres of land to this
parish for the purpose of build-
ing a church, school and burial
ground. Even at that, all was
not rosy to the French pioneers
who were the first arrivals in
the settlement. The latecom-
ers could not speak French and
early ones could not speak Eng-
lish, so to get along it had to be
with signs and gestures and that
not not to the best advantage to
either ones, but as time passed
on a sohool was built and with
the coming of the third genera-
tion, they became la help to
their neighbors as they learned
English and of course in that
way it was beneficial to both
the early arrivals and for those
who were in the parish and
those who arrived in later
years.

BAD TEMPERED AND MOODY
DEAR DORIS — I'm an un-
happy girl of 14. I think I'm
very unattractive to boys, which
is what they think too. I can
talk to boys that I like as
friends, but not to one that I
like more.
I'm very moody for maybe a
week or even a couple of hours.
I've got a bad temper which
doesn't help matters any,
All my friends are popular
and have a lot of fun; I'm the
only odd one, I think that
when I'm around they have less
fun than usual, Could you give
me any help?
Moody
DEAR MOODY — Cheer up.
You don't have to be a raving
beauty to have friends — or
even a perfect disposition. Lots
of girls your age are moody.
You can change things. Next
time find a guy who is shy and
start a conversation. A bad
mood won't turn up while you
are busy doing something nice
for someone else.
Send for my leaflet "Are
You Really Growng Up?" en-
closing ten cents and a stamped,
self-addressed envelope. It will
give you some fine ideas about
improving looks, hair, complex-
ion, voice, grooming.
DEAR DORIS -- A husband
asks the wife of a friend to
meet him in a secluded park
miles from home to "walk and
talk". (The wife left at home
also likes to walk and talk in
the woods.) This couple attends
the same night school class and
they say they 'have a very close,
but platonic, friendship. The
woman volunteered the infor-
mation that "we didn't even
hold hands".
When the husband's wife
asked him why, if they just
wanted to talk, didn't they meet
in the public library or even a
bus stop bench, he replied, "I
wanted to have her all to my-
self". They say only two trips
were made to the park.
Same husband has also
"walked and talked" one of his
university students in the same
park,
Opinion Please
DEAR OPINION — I'd say
this absent-minded professor
had better come out of the
woods and remember he has a
wife.
Things which start off platon-
ic have a way of ending up in
heartbreak, unless both parties
are thoroughly adult and have
their eyes wide open to possi-
bilities.

DEAR DORIS -- I have a
very serious problem --which I
never saw mentioned in your
column. Talking to my doctor,
he could not give me any other
answer than, "Go to a different
part of the country".
Being down here in Blank
City almost one year now, my
wife has had several serious
asthmatic attacks. She is get-
ting medical treatment, of
course.
My question: Is there any
such thing as a book, booklet,
brochure, map, etc., which deals
with specific areas for a spe-
cific ailment? For instance,
which areas of Canada would
be best suited for asthmatic
people, or rather for people
who don't want these asthmatic

A GENERAL MOTORS VALUE
Pontiac Laurentian Four -Door Sedan
A lot of our advertising appears in people's driveways.
Pontiac's beauty sells a lot of Pontiacs. Consider the
arrogance of its split grille. The long, lean sculpted
body. That nimble -Looking, distinctively -Pontiac stance.
But we have a clever device for selling even more
Pontiacs. We call it our Pontiac dealer, He's the man
with all the answers. He can show you, for instance,
exactly why it is that we're putting more of our Success
Cars in_people's driveways than ever before. He's a man
,'''t:4 •'+`..''"::'.'.::y`c::'^w'c3 Sias. k;'d1'
you should make it a special point to meet. He can tell
you about Pontiac's lavish interiors with their host of
standard equipment luxury and safety features. He'll
even demonstrate Pontiac's new brand of performance if
you're feeling adventurous. But more impor-
tant than anything else, he can, give you an
excellent deal on the Pontiac of your choice.
And let you do some advertising for us.
