This year the Western On-
tario Drama Festival held their
annual competition in Niagara
Falls, with Barry Morse as the
adjudicator. And again this
year, the awards presentation,
which times out to a half-hour,
was filmed for television view-
ing by CKCO-TV Kitchener,
The film was sharp and clear,
but in places there was trouble
with the sound. Ted Fielder,
of CFRS radio in Simcoe was
an able emcee. London Little
Theatre was chosen as the best
of the week and walked off with
several other awards, They
will compete in the Dominion
finals to be held in May in
Victoria, B.C.

With the purchase of "My
Mother the Car" by CTV, the
network now has two "dogs"
side by side. It's a poor begin-
ning for Tuesday night, with
"My Mother the Car" and "Mus-
ical Showcase" at 7;30. The
people in charge of "The Show-
ease" wrote to me stating that
I had said some pretty nasty
things about the program and
asked me to watch it again,
as there had been changes.
made, So I did watch it last
Tuesday, and all I can say is
"what changes?" "My Mother
the Car", which I had seen and
reviewed w d when debuted on NBC
in the fall, made we want to
throw up again.
Perhaps I need a holiday, and
that's exactly what I'm going
to have. Regular readers of
this column will remember the
name Bruce Irwin — the man
who gambles with a "perfect
system". I'm off to Europe
with him and he's going to
prove to me that he can make
money at the casinos. You'll
read all about it when I return.
In the meatime, there'll be a
TV column written by a TV ex-
pert acquaintance of mine. So,
keep reading and let's all pray
that the plane doesn't crash.

Fire destroyed the bank barn
of Russell Webb, located in
Stephen Township, about three
miles southwest of Dashwood
last Friday morning. While
Mr. Webb and his brother,
Stewart, were at a bush only
a short distance away, they
not iced considerable smoke
around the barn and by the
time the got to it, the barn
was ablaze. With the assistance
of the neighbors they managed
to get all the stock out. Owing
to a high wind the fire had
started in the bush in several
places. Grain and other feed
was destroyed. The fire is be-
lieved to have been caused by
sparks flying from underneath
the kettle where beans were
being boiled some distance
away. The barn was partly
covered by insurance.
