TAY No Big Rush For Licence Plates Even though the deadline for purchasing new car li- cence plates was on Monday, there was no big rush at the last minute for local issuer, Leeland Willert. Mr, Willert is shown here as he fills out a card for Paul Steckle, seated to the left, while at the right Miss Stella Rose waits her turn for plates. The issuer reported that Saturday was a busier day than any in the past few weeks as many owners tried to beat the deadline. THE FEAR OF FAILURE DEAR DORIS - There has always been a feeling of incom- petency and a fear of failure in my life. In a period of optim- ism I decided to teach but now I know I will never make a good teacher. I started a commercial art course, by mail, at 14, but never finished it. I love art but don't really know if I have any talent. One thing that haunts me is the fear that I am..abnorma.l. My mind seems to be preoc- cupied with sex. 'I .:never date because the church is the cen- tre of social activities Dere and I am not a member. I am 20. Just Existing DEAR JUST -Even geniuses have been classified as below normal; the most promising student needs encouragement. When .a little girl is told often enough that she'll never amount to anything, and her; life is packed full of prohibi- tions with no positive praise j nor premise she believes it. ZURICH -- EXETER I know a middle-aged woman who never finishes anything she starts. There's that old nagging fear, hangover from childhood, which tells her she'll never get anywhere, so why try? Sex is just one more frustra- tion. You need dates, friends, the lift one rousing success can give you. Some new contacts, some religious philosophy - the positive, believing kind - can change your doubts to hope. Join that church. DEAR DORIS - Am I right in saying that you made up a sheet of six supper receipes from some ideas sent in by a reader? If so, how do I get them? Stretching the Pennies DEAR STRETCHING - Yes. A cook -housekeeper who loves to experiment is sharing some concoctions. We have them tested by a home economist. They use chuck steak, chicken, chicken livers, pork chops to produce delectable dishes. You can have them for a stamped, self-addressed envel- ,, ten cents sent in to me through this newspaper. Ask for "Everyday Recipes from a Happy Housewife". About People You Know .. . Mrs, Theresa Hartman and son Robert spent the week -end with Mr. and Mrs, Michael Hartman and Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Hartman both of London. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gashes Zurich spent several days in Toronto this past week. Mr. and Mrs. Pat Oesch spent several days last week in Clin- ton. Mr, and Mrs. William OBrien and Jimmy were week -end vistors with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. LeRoy OBrien. Mr. and Mrs. Don OBrien .nd family spent the week -end with friends in Toronto. DEAR DORIS-This gentle- man 1 am aoout to marry is a widower. I have known him for 35 years and it is a second wedding for both of us. 1. Do we send invitations to relatives a long distance away, when we know they cannot attend? 2. Ia it proper for me to wear a corsage? 3. Would it be proper for us to give corsages to our daugh- ters? 4. What about a solo sung at second weddings? Second DEAR SECOND - 1. No. Send announcements. 2. Yes. 3. No. 4, Fine. The rule is that second wed- dings call for less fuss and frills; fewer guests. One at- tendant apiece; gifts not ex- pected, A 13 YS i S DEAR DORIS - I have been engaged for over a year, but for some reason I dream of other boys, especially one. Now I'm not sure if I love the boy I'm engaged to or not. If I were to break up with him, how would I tell him? I'm afraid of what he would do to himself if I did. Confused DEAR CONFUSED - Better to be afraid of what it would do to you if you don't, Such uncertainty could mean a life- time of misery for both of you. Have the courage to talk to him about your doubts -Pronto! iii' * 'f~`t' Confidential to Head Over Heels '-- Listen to your heart? Yes! But don't entirely ignore your head. Make sure you are not reacting to your family's disapproval by becoming more stubbornly determined to have your own way. You and Jake have much in common. If you take my ad- vice you'll enjoy your carefree friendship with him and sim- ply refuse to get serious for a while, The light will dawn in its own good time.
