Veteran Correspondent Pleased!
With the announcement last week that the
Zurich Citizens News had been awarded first
place in it's class for towns of under 1,000
population, one of the first to offer congrat-
ulations was the correspondent for St. Joseph
area, A. Fred Ducharme, who has been con-
tributing news to a Zurich paper for well
over 60 years. Shown seated here with Mrs.
Ducharme is Joe Hunt, plant superintendent,

The regular dinner meeting
of the Zurich Lions Club was
held in the Dominion Hotel on
Monday, February 7. Deputy
district governor Tom MacMil-
lan, guest speaker for the eve-
ning, gave a very interesting
talk to his fellow Lions.
Mrs. Oscar Miller, sister of
Henry HowaId, Zurich, passed
away in Kitchener this week.
The funeral service will be
held on Saturday at 1 p.m., at
the Gruhn funeral home, Kit-
chener.
Elda Laidlaw set a new
Ladies' League record in the
regular bowling schedule on
Monday night. Three outstand-
ing games of 277, 341 and 236
added up to the grand total
of 854.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Erb,
Zurich, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Albright, Kitchener, visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Len Bowman
and family in Sarasota, Florida.
The Bowmans are former Zur-
ich residents.
Mr. and Mrs. William Yun.g-
'blut, Mark and Jane, London,
visited with their parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Ivan Yungblut.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Gascho
and family, of Scarboro, are
spending a week's holiday with
Mr. and Mr. Ed Gascho and
other relatives.
Women's Institute
The Zurich Women's Insti-
tute meeting will be held at the
home of Mrs. H. W. Broken -
shire. Mrs. M. Shatto will ad-
dress the ladies as guest speak-
er. Plans will be finalized for
the community supper, to be
held on March 30, All pro-
ceeds from this venture will be
donated to the Blue Water Rest
Home. Visitors are welcomed
to the meeting.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Gascho,
Mr. and Mrs. Leroy O'Brien
and Mr. and Mrs. Milton Oesch
attended the funeral of the
late Mrs. Henry Roppel at Tavi-
stock EUS Church on Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Stephan,
London, were week -end visitors
with their parents Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Parkins,
Mr, and Mrs. James Hackett,
Linda and Doug, of Don Mills,
were week -end guests with
their parents, Mr, and Mrs. Ted
Steinbach. Mr. and Mrs. Allan
Walper and family, Parkhill,
and Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Stein-
bach, of Zurich, also spent
Sunday with their parents.
Mrs. Victor Dinnin is a pa-
tient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Mr. and Mrs. Pete Allen and
family were week -end visitors
with Mr. and Mrs. Milt Deitz.

Mrs. Herb Mousseau is visit-
ing at the home of her daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Reg Black, in Buckingham.

Mrs. Hilton Truemner, Mrs.

MRS, HENRY E. RQPPEL
Mrs. Henry E. Roppell, of
Tavistock, the wife of Rev.
Henry E. Roppel, who was a
former pastor at Zurich Evan-
gelical United Brethren Church,
passed away recently at Avon
Crest, Stratford, where she had
been a patient for about two
year's.
Mrs. Roppel was the former
Rachel E. Sturm, a daughter of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Christian
Sturm, of Napanee. She was
married to Rev. Roppel on June
25, 1913, at Tweed and with
her husband had resided at
several points in Ontario and
Western Canada,
The couple retired to Tavi-
stock in 1958 from Mildmay.
Mrs. Roppel was the first
woman graduate of the Evan-
gelical Theological Seminary at
Naperville, 111,, graduating in
May, 1917. She was a teacher
of piano and art.
Besides her husband, now re-
siding in Guelph, the deceased
is survived by one daughter,
Mrs. T. R. (Hope) Waugh, of
Guelph, and four grandchildren.
Rev. Ronald F. Saylor offici-
ated at the funeral service at
Zion EUB Church in Tavistock.
Temporary entombment follow-
ed in Avondale chapel, Strat-
ford, with burial later in Zion
EUB cemetery, Tavistock.

Dashwood Native Succumbs
Wellington William Maier
died suddenly of a heart at-
tack at his winter home in
Palm Harbour, Florida, Wed-
nesday, February 2, 1966.
He was born in Stephen
ownship May 17, 1899. Ile mar-
ried Emily Hayward in 1924
and lived in Detroit several
years, where he designed and
built Perna -log hones, moving
to Mio, Mich., in 1941, he con-
tinued his trade.
Surviving besides his wife
are one (laughter, Mrs. Roy
(Jean) Boernor; two sons, Wil-
liam Jr. and Robert, all of Mio,
Mich.; one brother, George, of
Detroit.
The body rested at the Lar-
rison funeral home until Sun-
day, February 6. The funeral
service took place in the Mio
Methodist Church. Rev. Fred-
rick Tim officiated and read
two poems, "Nature's Wonder-
land" and "Woodlot" in mem-
ory of Mr. Maier's love of
nature.
Pall bearers were nephews,
Don and George Maier, of De -
telt; Ken and George Ellis, of
Sarnia, and Hugh and Roy Mor-
enz, of Dashwood.
