Chamber Head Asks Help From Meg 1 Strikes The president of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce Tues- day urged the provincial gov- ernment to ". , . seriously rec- ognize the requirement to ad- minister and enforce the laws to avoid repetition of unlawful work stoppages such as those in the trucking industry which occurred last fall and which have created much of the diffi- culties surrounding the current shut down of the industry in Ontario", Lee D. Dougan emphasized that "... the Chamber recog- nized the right to strike as an integral part of collective bar- gaining" "However," Mr. Dou- PAGE THREE gan added, "the Chamber feels. strongly that one of the con- tributing factors to the present strike has been the failure of governments to give effective exercise to existing laws and to update and maintain these laws to fit current society." "The recognized right for unions as an entity to sue or be sued in their own name would bring them to the norm- al degree of responsibility re- quired of other elements of the community. This has been urged by the Chamber for a number of years," Mr. Dougan said. 0 Want -Ads Are Sure To Brine V You Results can Grower OTS...
