Zurich Citizens News, 1965-12-30, Page 7THURSDAY, DECEMBER 30, 1965 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS PAGE SEVE1! A PARENT'S GUIDE TO CHILDREN'S READING This is the front cover- of a i bright new pamphlet designed to help you help your child get the most out of books. The pocket -sized publication is free of charge. It's all part of a home and school centennial project directed by Winnipeg school principal C. V. Madder. His objective — over the next two years — is to get a copy in the hands of every parent with young children. "Each page is loaded with brightly illustrated practical ideas," said Ed Ring, who pre- pared the pamphlet 'on behalf of the Canadian Home and School Federation. "In a sense this parent's guide to children's reading comes to you from the finest authorities in the field. We looked over books, articles and research on the subject. We consulted librarians in four provinces. We spoke to teach- ers, parents, writers of chil- dren's books, psychologists — and just plain book lovers." "Our little pamphlet boils down hard-won and time -tested knowledge, summarizes many important things you can do to encourage your child's natural interest in books. It's fun to guide and share and stimulate your child's growth in reading and we wrote this pamphlet in the belief that the hope of the world lies in the hearts and heads of people who have been readers all their lives and who are stimulated by their enlarged curiosity to keep themselves alive and informed." The contents are particularly helpful to parents with pre- school children, and include: IIelpful Hints for a Home Book- shelf, 50 Books No Child Should Goshen United Church Women Sect Officers At December Meeting Goshen United Church Wom- en held their Christmas meet- ing at the home of Mrs. Bob Peck, Thursday night December 16.
