Television Views
by William Whiting
Bob Blackburn, the well-
known Toronto TV columnist,
wrote some choice remarks
about "Musical Showcase" which
belongs to a well-known gas and
oil company. I know Bob Black-
burn, and we chatted together
in Montreal while attending the
four-hour farce of the decade.
He opened his column by
stating, "Call it the $100,000
misunderstanding". "It is one of
the most offensive and success-
ful programs on the air. If
you've seen it you know. If you
haven't, well don't crowd your
luck," he continued.
Blackburn briefly interview-
ed the winner, whose name was
Jacques Barbeau. The public-
ity on him said he liked the
program, but in response to a
direct question, he told Black-
burn he'd never seen it in his
life. "That makes him lucky
in more ways than one," he
wrote.
I went to Montreal with the
TV columnist for the Kitchener -
Waterloo Record. There must
have been a couple of hundred
people there from TV stations
and newspapers across the
country.

Wonch, deputy reeve of Clin-
ton.
All four candidates for the
wardenship cited their experi-
ence in township and county
councils. Reeve Stewart Proc-
tor said it is 13 years since
Morris has had a warden.
"I expect to have some wor-
thy opponents," he said, "but
we are the best of friends and
intend to continue that way."
Reeve Tom Leiper entered
Hullett council 16 years ago and
has been in county council six
years.
It is 22 years since Stanley
was honored with the warden -
ship, Reeve Ernest Talbot said.
Reeve Kenneth Stewart said
he was in the unique position
of representing McKillop and
playing host to the plowing
match.
"I have had requests that I
allow my name to stand for the
wardenship," he said. "I am
in hopes that this large event
coming to Huron will show the
people of Ontario and neigh-
bouring provinces and states
what we have to offer in Huron
—good land, good roads, hydro
and abundance of water—and
that our towns will gain some
industries, very necessary for
Huron. I have served in coun-
cil for six years. I have dis-
cussed with my wife and family
whether I should take this step,
and they agree I shall have the
time necessary to do the job."
