Persons With Social Insurance
Number Need Not Register Again
The unemployment Insurance! more than one number to an
Commission said this week individual. however, when
that the current registration the particulars given on one
:for the Canada Pension Plan application are not identical to
is apparently leading many those given on an earlier ap-
Canadians who already have a plication, a second number will
social insurance number to ap- be issued.
For the individual who al-
ready has more than one social
insurance number, the commis-
sion says the solution is simple.
He should report the problem
to the nearest UIC office, bring-
ing with him, or mailing, all
the social insurance number
cards in his possession. The
commission will cancel the later
number or numbers and supply
a new social insurance number
card if the original one has
been misplaced.
While it is an offence for a
person to knowingly apply for
more than one number, it is
recognized that most multiple
applications are made inadver-
tently. The commission stressed
that its immediate interest is to
have those who contribute to
either the Canada Pension Plan
-or Unemployment Insurance to
do so under one—and only one
—social insurance number.

commission emphasized that the
one number provides identifi-
cation for both Canada Pen-
sion Plan and Unemployment
Insurance purposes and that the
individual must not have more
than one number.
Those who apply more than
once may be building up fu-
ture difficulties for themselves
in regard to payments from
either or both plans. They
:may find that they have crea-
ted more than one "acount"'
for their contributions and thus
have trouble obtaining their
full entitlement when the time
conies to obtain benefits.
The UIC noted that every ef-
fort is made to avoid assigning

on to say. "Not because they
wanted a dinner, but because
they want to encourage us, to
inspire us, to assure us, to set
us on fire with the most nec-
essary, the most glorious cause
ever set before the people of
South Huron. We have never
done anything big here before,
'we have never thought big be-
fore, but now we must think
big, act big, and give big."
Father Doyle went on to say,
"we have assuredly been at
fault in many ways over the
wears, here we have a terrific
opportunity to make up for -our
shortcomings. This requires a
real sacrifice, we must dig down
deep and give of our very sub-
stance —we must give till it
hurts.
"If we put our heart and
souls into this project we will
have a deep feeling of satis-
faction that always conies from
a job well done," he concluded.
"I am sure we will meet with
success in this most worthy and
historic project."
Prior to the inspiring mes-
sage of Father Doyle, Rev. A.
C. Blackwell spoke briefly, pay-
ing tribue to the five incorpor-
ating directors and pointing out
the spiritual advantage of a
senior citizens' home so close.
Mr. McKinley pointed out to
the meeting how the idea of a
rest home materialized, and how
important the project is to
South Huron.
Hydro Officials
Oppose Plan
A strong stand against recent
recommendations that would
eliminate the elected or ap-
pointed Hydro commissions in
the province and dump_ their
duties into the laps of muni-
cipal councils, featured the an-
nual meeting of district 7A of
the Ontario Municipal Electric
Association, held last week in
Strathroy.
In a resolution addressed to
the minister of municipal af-
fairs, district 7, referred spe-
cifically to the report of con-
sultant Murray Jones recom-
mending the re -organization of
municipal government in Otta-
wa, Eastview and Carleton
County. If implemented, the
report would dissolve several
Hydro commissions in the area
and place Hydro affairs under
a committee of council of the
proposed regional government.
The district 7 resolution,
passed unanimously by more
than 100 delegates representing
some 37 municipal utilities in
Western Ontario, called the
Jones' proposal a "retrograde
step not in the best interest of
the industrial, commercial and
residential users of electric
power in the province." It
stressed the urgency of main-
taining the separation which
now exists between tax sup-
ported and revenue producing
municipal services.

PRAISES MAJORETTES — When John
Diefenbaker visited Goderich on Tuesday af-
ternoon, the Zurich Lions Majorettes were
on hand to welcome him. Mr. Diefenbaker,
along with Bob McKinley, Conservative can-
didate for Huron, are shown here as they
mingle thorugh the crowd at the CNR station
on their arrival. Several of the Majorettes
are in the foreground.
Former Health Minister Speaks At
Exeter in Support of Bob McKinley
Hon. J. Waldo Monteith,
Perth MP and former minister
of national health and welfare,
told a gathering of more than
300 in the Exeter Legion last
Wednesday night that the only
reason the Liberal party is cry-
ing for a majority government
is simply so they can hide their
sins behind numbers.
Mr. Monteith was speaking
on behalf of Conservative can-
didate Bob McKinley at a re-
ception sponsored by a group
of prominent Exeter women.
Other speakers at the informal
gathering were Hon. C. S. Mac -
Naughton, Elson Cardiff, Huron
MP, and John Loney, Bruce
MP. Elmer D. Bell, QC, was
chairman of the meeting part
of the reception.
The prominent Stratford busi-
ness executive told the gather-
ing the Liberals were afraid of
further disclosures following
the Dorion inquiry, and so
called a snap election to try
and cover up the corruption in
Ottawa. "At first the Liberals
refused to have an inquiry when
Eric Nielsen made charges of
Corruption in the 'house, but
finally, under terrific pressure
from the opposition, they agreed
to it," he said. "You all know
the results of the Dorion re-
port."
Referring to old age security
and the new Canada Pension
Plan, Mr. Monteith charged that
the proposal is not good enough.
"Two and a half million Cana-
dians will not benefit one penny
from the new pension plan,"
he added. "Those who are al-
ready retired or about to re-
tire will get nothing."
Mr. Monteith explained that
the government had a brief
presented them from the Prov-
ince of Ontario, asking that a
minimum pension of $25 per
month be given every one, but
the Liberals failed to act on
it. "The Conservatives are of-
fering an old age security pen-
sion of $100 compared to the
present $75 being paid," he
went on to say. "Pearson says
that under a means test they
may be able to get more. We
say that everyone will get $100,
and under a means test they
will get more."
The speaker also atacked the
11% sales tax on building ma-
terials and production machin -
JESUS CHRIST IS LORD!
John 5:46 "Had ye believed Moses ye would have be-
lieved Me."
This Word of God from the Gospel •according to John
equates our Lord's teaching on the reliability of Moses
Words.
We might well ask what were Moses' words. Some of
Moses' words are:
"Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea;
and his chosen captains in the Red Sea; the floods stood
upright as a heep; the •deeps were congealed in the heart
of the sea; and the Lord brought back the waters of the
sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry
land, in •the midst of the sea."
The words of Jesus Christ stand on the authenticity of the
words of Moses. If ye wish to believe one you must believe
the other because the Word of God is one.

this will be abolished. "No
wonder the cost of living is
getting so high with all these
unnecessary taxes," he added.
"We need Bob McKinley in
Ottawa to help us implement
our program," the speaker con-
cluded, "and this fact was ex-
emplified the way he handled
himself on the platform to-
night."
Mr. McKinley was introduced
to the enthusiastic gathering by
Elston Cardiff, the retiring
member for Huron. "I like this
young man more every time I
see and talk to him," Mr. Car-
diff said. "And as far as the
London Free Press is concerned
with their story that Huron
could be a riding to change,
they are crazy. If the Liberals
hold half the seats they have
now in Ontario, they'll be
lucky. We must keep this coun-

The candidate pointed out to
the meeting that Canada was
founded by' the Conservative
party nearly 100 years ago, and
it is only right they should be
in power for the centennial of
the country. "If the Conserva-
tives are elected we will get on
with doing something for this
wonderful Canada of ours" he
explained. "The people in west-
ern Canada will not forget that
it was the Conservative govern-
ment, under agriculture minis-
ter Alvin Hamilton, that started
the ball rolling on wheat sales
to foreign countries. The Lib-
erals are only carrying on with
something we started."'
Following Mr. McKinley's ad-
dress, .a touching scene took
place at the reception, when
he was given a standing ovation
by the crowd.
Another brief speaker at the
affair was Highways Minister
C. S. MacNaughton, who pledged
his support for the candidate.
"I stand firmly behind this fine
young man," Mr. MacNaughton
said, "and will do all in my
power from now until election
day to see that he wins the rid-
ing for the Conservative party."
Referring to the 11% sales
tax on building materials and
production machinery, the min-
ister described it as the most
unfair taxation in history. He
told the gathering that he knew
the people could depend on Mr.
Diefenbaker to remove this tax
after he becomes prime min-
ister.
Mr. MacNaughton reminded
the meeting that it had been a
pleasure working with Mr. Car-
diff during the past years, and
he was sure it would be just
as pleasant working with Mr.
McKinley.
`,Think of all this corruption
in Ottawa with only a minority
government," he added. "What
in the world would -it be- like
if the people ever gave the Lib-
erals a majority government.
We must have honesty in gov-
ernment
overnment if we want our coun-
try to go ahead." •
