Canadian social worker Doris Clark Invites you to writ*
bar about your problem. She answers letters of gonerJel
#nterest.in this column but can't undertake personal replies.
DEAR DORIS—My husband
was involved in an accident in
which the other driver was
killed. He left a widow and two
small children. Bob, my hus-
band, had a fractured skull. but
has recovered nicely.
At the inquest, the death was
ruled as entirely accidental,
with no charges of any kind
t zainst Bob. The widow has
been most noble towards us.
she sent flowers to hint in hos.
pita]. "to let him know I've no
hard feeling against him". This
has helped Bob tremendously.
Would it be in order to send
her a gift, perhaps in memory
of her husband? Or would this
only serve to renew her own
pain at the loss?
At Sea
DEAR AT SEA—Such a gen-
erous heart deserves a warm
tribute!
A letter would be best. It
should express sympathy, per-
haps saying that as a wife and
mother yourself. you can under-
stand a little of the terrible blow
it is for her to have lost her
husband.
Then, of course, it should ex-
press heartfelt gratitude for her
reassurances to your husband,
saying what these have meant
to him. And finish with the
hope that God's peace will bless
her and give her strength and
courage to carry on.
DEAR DORIS—Boys my own
age (191 and older get along
well with me. I am sort of an
older sister, a confidante, to
them. They are nice but they
simply have no appeal for me.
I am what they call an out-
standing student, love cooking,
am always getting to be presi-
dent of something.
Unfortunately, the young
bachelor sports director does
have appeal for me. I'm afraid
I'tu in love with him. I've
talked myself out of several
crushes on older amen, but this
is different,
1 only want to make him hap-
py. and 1 doubt whether any
relationship other than the pla-
tonic one we now have, would
do so. So now, Doris, how do
I hide my feelings?
Heartsick
DEAR HEARTSICK — Yours
is the quandary of the girl who
matures early, is a leader
among her contemporaries and
is eager to get on with life.
You find kinship with an older
man because he also is a leader
and he has done some serious
living.
Believe it or not, those boys
who lean on you now will catch
up with you, and before long
will present serious competition
to the older man. When one of
them shows a single sign of
insight, begin leaning on him.
Give them time to settle into
maturity.
It will all look different then.
Confitdential to Unhappy —
You still love him, don't you?
I guess what you really need
is more recreation and change.
In most farm communities there
is plenty going on, and it is up
to you to get into the swim.
Could you make a plan for one
night out a week?
My second suspicion is that
you could do far better on the
physical side of marriage if you
had more knowledge. Write in
again, enclosing ten cents and
a stamped, self-addressed en-
velope for a list of recommend-
ed books on sex and marriage.
Reading and discussing some of
these with your nearest and
dearest would almost certainly
change things for the better.
Our tempting foods are
carefully prepared and
beautifully served. The
atmosphere is gracious
and congenial, perfect for
family dining.
Our dining room is air
conditioned for your
comfort.
It's a treat they'll all love.

DEAR DORIS--'Could a mem-
ber of the female sex be a com-
mercial traveller? What quali-
fications are required to obtain
such a position?
Nan
DEAR NAN --- Yes indeed.
Women often travel and sell.
Cosmetic houses, food manufac-
turers, firms which make house-
hold appliances, often engage
women as sales promoters,
demonstrators and public rela-
tions workers to get around for
them to retailers and sell or
boost the sale of what they
make.
A good general education;
plenty of drive; an understand-
ing of people; ability to cope
with unexpected situations; and
integrity. Plus any special
training required to have
knowledge of the products be-
ing sold.

has begun although moisture
levels are high, Many farmers
are still harvesting spring
grains.

of beans and husking corn.

Presents Report
A total of 430 persons in
Huron County were X-rayed
during the summer months at,
regular clinics conducted by
the Huron County Tuberculosis
Association. Included were a
number of food handlers.
The information was contain-
ed in a report prepared by R.
B. Paterson, case -finding chair-
man, and presented in his ab-
sence by the association secre-
tary, Mrs. B. Davidson, at a
meeting of the association in
Clinton on Thursday evening.
George Watt, Blyth, the presi-
dent, was in charge of the meet-'
ing.
Miss L. Robertson, the educa-
tion chairman, reported that
durg stores in the county had
been given phamphlets to place
in packages purchased. Dr. A.
R. Rowe, ear, nose and throat
specialist from Stratford, had
appeared on the program "Par-
ty Line" from CKNX Radio,
Wingham, and had answered
questions an hay fever and
other allergies. CKNX were in-
terested in the fact that tuber-
culosis associations are inter-
ested in all respiratory diseases.
The secretary of the associa-
tion plans to attend 18 fairs in
the counties of Huron and Perth
with educational materials.
The chairman of the reha-
bilitation committee, William
Elston, of Morris, reported that
there have been some admis-
sions to the Beck Memorial
Sanatorium in the past few
months and that some ex -pa-
tients have been receiving as-
sistance from the association.
The seal sale chairman, Mrs.
D, C. Cornish, Seaforth, said
plans have been made for the
sale of Christmas seals this
year. Mrs. Cornish spoke of the
need for volunteers and thank-
ed E. C. Boswell, also of Sea -
forth, for his many long volun-
teer hours.
The secretary gave her re-
port and was commended by
the association for her report
of the institute which she at-
tended in Highland Park, Illi-
nois, in June. The meeting re-
viewed the financial report, and
discussed the budget.
Plans have been made tenta-
tively for a luncheon meeting
in November of the Huron and
Perth associations. John Rob-
ertson, of the National Tuber-
culosis Association in New
York, is being asked to speak.

Pensi:i
4,
Here is what
the Canada Pension Plan
will do for people like Joe Costello9l
a 52 -year-old unmarried labourer
who earns $50 a week.
If Joe continues to work full time
until age 65 he can look forward
to retiring with a monthly
pension of $54,16 from the
Canada Pen ;ion Plan and $75
from Oki Age Security—a total
of $129.16, That's almost 60%
of what he was earning.
If he is ill or out of work for
as long as two years, or if his
earning*,s for a period of up to two
years are below his regular wage,
he will receive the same pension
at age 65. This is because under
the Man a certain number of
months of low or no earnings do
not affect the amount of the
pension.
If Joe wishes to continue
working between 65 and 70 and
earns higher wages than
previously he can improve his
pension. For example, if he
works until age 69 and earns
$3,600 a year, his pension will be
$61.'74 a month instead of $54.16.
If Joe becomes disabled after
1970, having contributed for at
least 5 years, he will get a
disability pension of $6542 a
month until he gets both his
retirement and Old Age Security
pensions at age 65.
All benefits under the Plan will
maintain their value. The actual
benefits payable will probably
be higher than those given here
since benefits will be adjusted
to meet changes in living costs and
in wage levels before they are
paid and changes in living costs
after they become payable.
What will the Plan cost you?
If you, like Joe Costello, are
employed and have earnings Of
$2,600 spread evenly over the
year, you will pay at the rate of
69¢ a week. Your employer will
pay the salve amount.
This advertisement is one of a
series which relates some of the
important benefits of the
Canada Pension Plan to
individual circumstances.
Issued by
authority of the Minister of
National Health and Welfare,
Canada,
The Honourable Judy LaMarsli.
