Zurich Citizens News, 1965-08-26, Page 7' HIURSDAY,. AUGUST 26, 1965 ZURICH CITIZENS NEWS PAGE SEVEN Skippin' O'er Sports by Angus "Red" McIntosh Some people misunderstood our comments last week about the Sunday game in Dashwood which the Tigers won so. han- dily. We did not state, .as come people think, that Don O'Brien was tossed out •of the ball game for swearing. This 'was not the case? It was some of the other players who did the swearing and got away with it that we were refering to to when we wrote about the game. For those who misun- derstood the write .0 p, we would like it to be made clear that Don O'Brien, to our knowl- q .rn..w *lee bie Am* Oat tO thit l t edge, was one of the ball play- ers layers who DID NOT swear. And we don't think he sould have been tossed out of the game. But, there were some players who should have been, Our apologies, Don, for the people who misunderstood our poor English. ., k Some golf scores turned in the last couple of weeks have been Don Gascho's 36, 36 and 38; Garry Rodgers' 44; Rick Stade's 39, 46, 42, 42; Gib Stade's 46, 41, 41; Doug Stade's 47, 47, 44; Bob Johnston's 50, Our tempting foods are carefully prepared and beautifully served. Zurich has improved a lot and not including last night's game had moved into •a :three-to-rtwo lead in play. The two tie games are washed out. If Dashwood won last night then the final game would be played, prob. ably Friday night, in Dashwood. The series has had a good mixture of several ingredients in it. Zurich started off by winning the first game, then started playing sloppy ball and doing a lot of complaining. Around the fifth game of the set it was the Dashwood boys who did almost all of the com- plaining. And Monday night it was Dashwood who made a pile of errors. There has been a few words exchanged by some of the competitors and some spectacular plays have been pulled off by some of the players. After the first seven games Dashwood has picked up 34 runs, 47 hits and have booted the ball 21 times. Zurich has 31 runs, 46 hits and have made 27 errors. Earl Wagner is the top batter with his .636 aver- age. The rest of the top ten hitters are: Eugene Guenther, .454; Dick Bedard, .409; Bob Hoffman, .400; Don O'Brien, .363; Bill Schade, .313; Angus McIntosh, .250; Jim Pfaff, .250; Gordon Vincent, .238, and Al- phonse Denomme, .227. Fielding honors go to Eugene Guenther, Angus McInto-sh, Mike Denomme and Jim Bedard at .1000. Ken Rader, .977: Gor- don Vincent. .972; Bob Hoff- man, .960; Rick Stade, .936; Dave Ratz, .931 and Don O'Brien .920. Mike D en o m m e has been playing with a sore knee. which kept him out of the last game. Other than that Dashwood is in good health.
