Golf Tournament

Of Excitement
(Continued from Page '1)
score was 53 and edged Herb
Turkheim, owner and publisher
of the newspaper. and a first-
year golfer, by five strokes.
The low score shot by Ginger-
ich's was Ken McCarter's 60.
Ken played exceptionally fine
golf for someone new at the
game and bested the estab-
lished pros on Gingerich's team.
Gerry Gingerich and Ward
Knox, quite handily. Also
trimming the top players on his
side was Charles Eckel, who
shot a 61. His par on number
two was the only one shot on
the hole and he just missed
another par later in the match.
Seventh in the •overall score
was Ward Knox, the salesman
from G-ingerich's Clinton office.
Ward, who played minus his
golf shoes, shot a 62 and stated
after the match that the strange
course and the fact that he was
playing without his golf shoes
threw him off his game and
added several strokes to his to-
tal. Jim Pfaff carne through
with a 66 which was very good
for his first time at the game.
Jim was not in top farm for
golf because he is involved in a
struggle on the baseball field
and golf and baseball are play-
ed a little •differently.
Perhaps the pro that let his
team down the most was Gerry
Gingerich, the owner of Ging-
erich's Sales and Service, His
score was a lot higher than he
usually shoots, but then again,
he usually plays holes one, two
and three on the fairway and
not in the bush like he did in
this match. Rounding out the
Gingerich score was Charles
Browning who almost beat his
boss and probably would have
if he had had a little more ex-
perience at the game.
So the printers won by a tot-
al of 52 shots, 197-249. John
Robinson presented the losers
with a trophy which is to be
displayed in the showroom at
Gingerich's until t h e next
match, Gerry Gingerich iss-
ued a challenge to the news-
paper men for a rematch at the
Chesley Lake golf course, the
week -end after Labor Day.
The challenge will. probably

before the invitation that Ging:
