n Problems
Mrs. a. lsery1 Davidson, execu-
tive secretary Huron -Perth Tu-
berculosis Associations, has re-
turned from Highland Park,
Illinois. where she attended an
11 -da;, National Tuberculosis
Association Institute for pro-
fessional staff members of lo-
pal. provincial and national TB
assoeiati&t1S.
With over 6,000 infectious •
cases of TB a year in Canada,
the disease is by no means
beaten yet and according to
Mrs. Davidson is our most seri-
ous communicable disease, It
is estimated that 6.000,000 Cana-
dians harbor live TB germs in.
their bodies— a huge reservoir
of potential infection in the
general population. Drugs only
stop the germs from multiply-
ing and close to 10 per cent of
new cases are now showing re-
sistance to at least one of the
drugs. and the percentage is
apparently growing. Research-
ers are trying to discover new
anti -TB drugs, but with no
success.
Individuals can protect them-
selves and their family with a
check-up for the disease once a
year. Mrs. Davidson said this
means a tuberculin skin test,
and. if it is positive, a chest
X-ray. Both are available at
local chest clinics, without
charge. Local associations take
part in the NTA Institute as a
means of assisting in the pro-
fessional development of staff
members.

STARGAZING — Looking into his crystal ball, Art
Linklater seems to foresee a happy summer ahead as host
and master of ceremonies of Hollywood Talent Scouts, one-
hour musical and comedy variety series show -casing new
and professional talent to be seen Tuesdays on the CBC -TV
network.
Canadian social 'worker Doris Clark htyites your to write
her about your problem. She answers letters of general
interest in this column but can't undertake personal replies.
DEAR DORIS — I have been
married a month and when I
got married I thought I loved
niy wife but no Iv I'm not so
sure. My wife is only 17 and I
am 20.
I have met this other girl, 17
also; she goes with my buddy
and I think I have fallen in
love with her. She says she
loves me but I don't know what
to do. Please help.
Last Hope
DEAR.. LAST — Today's
presure on teen-agers to marry
has put many another in the
same quandry you face now.
It's normal to fall in and out
of love at that age. Taking it
seriously is the big mistake.
Since the knot has been tied,
it's up to you to bend over back-
wards to keep it that way. One
month's worth of living with a
girl you found attractive enough
to marry, is far too short a time
to find out all the nice things
about her.
Try seeing yourself as a re-
sponsible person who keeps his
word. Try seeing your wife as
a companion. Don't expect to
float along on a rosy cloud all
the time. Marriage means roll -

L, TURNER (Ontario) LTD.
Blenheim, Ontario
up your sleeves to make a go of
everyday living.
I'm sending you my leaflet
"What Is Love?" There' s a
good chance you can make a go
of your marriage, but first you
need to know what real love is
all about.
Anyone may have this leaflet
by writing in to this newspaper
for it, and enclosing ten cents
and a stamped, self addressed
envelope.
DEAR DORIS — My sister
has been corresponding for five
months with a man 600 miles
from here. She has never seen
him except in a photo.
Now he has invited her to
conte to him during her two-
week vacation at his expense.
Do you think this is wise? She
is 39 years old. Would yo u
please advise by return, as she
is leaving next week. Perhaps
we can change her mind.
Anxious Brother
DEAR BROTHER — While
letters are fun, what they pro-
vide in the, way of a picture of
the writer is sometimes n o t
even a 'reasonible facsimile! If
your sister goes to see her pen
pal, she should stay at a hotel.
Even accepting train fair puts
her in a compromising position.
DEAR DORIS — I have white
patches that have come on my
neck. I have used several kinds
of ointment without any sucess.
Would they be related to skin
pigment, If so, What is a cure
for them? These patches are
very noticable.
Spots
DEAR SPOTS — Sounds like
eneven pigmentation, which is
hard to get rid of. Medical au-
thorities say that in some cases
it is •caused by a lack of two vi-
tamins, B and C.
Check your diet and be sure
you are getting enough of these
important food constituents.
There a r e creams designed
specifically to cover blemishes.
Such a cosmetic could certainly
snake the blotches less noticea-
ble when applied carefully. Ask
about these at your cosmetic
counter.
DEAR DORIS — I am a wid-
ow. A few month ago I met a
nice, kind and sincere man and
fel l in love again. He loves
me too and wants to marry me,
but my boy (who is 13) doesn't
like the idea. He wants to
stay the way we are, now just
the two of us.
Perhaps he is jealous and
doesn't want to share his moth-
er with anyone. I love my boy
very much, and I don't want to
hurt him, but I would like to
make a new life for myself.
Hoping
DEAR HOPING — You've
guessed it. Your son sees any
male as an interloper, after hav-
ing you all to himself.
Take it slowly. Provide op-
portunity for your son and the
man you love to become com-
panionable. A n y boy needs a
m,an in his life; and if he doesn't
feel left out, he may indeed be
the one urging the marriage be-
fore long.
