Wedding
SHiRRAY—TINNEY
In a lovely wedding •ceremony
at Carmel Presbyterian Church,
Hensall, Saturday, July 10, at
3 o'clock, Karen Louise Tinney
became the bride of Douglas
John Shirray, of RR 2, Hensall.
Rev. J. C, Boyne, of Exeter,
,]erformed the ceremony amid
a floral background of baskets
of pink gladioli and candelabra.
The bride is the daughter of
Jack Tinney, RR 1, Exeter, •and
the late Mrs. Tinney, and the
groom's parents are Mr. and
Mrs. Albert W. Shirray, RR 2,
Hensall. Traditional wedding
music was provided at the or-
gan eonsol by Mrs, Beatrice
Hess, Zurich.
G°ven in marriage by her
father, French pea de soie was
used in styling the bride's form-
al wedding gown, featuring a
shallow scoop neckline, elbow -
length sleeves .and a filled em-
pire line bodice giving way to
an "A" line floor -length skirt
forming a chapel sweep. Ar-
gentine lace appliques gave en
added touch of elegance to the
gown whose back detail was
centred round a grouping of
unpressed pleats forming a bus-
tle back. A queen's crown of
pearls and crystals held the
four tier French silk illusion
bridal veil. The bride carried
a cascade of dark pink carna-
tions, ivy and white gladioli
buds.
Matron of honor, Mrs. Marian
Tinney, Exeter, sister-in-law of
the b r i d e, and bridesmaids,
Misses Joan and Carol Tinney,
RR 1. Exeter, sisters of the
bride, bridal attendants, were
gowned in original floor -length
semi "A" -line dresses styled
s.imilarily to the bride's gown,
in imported white straw -hat
linen, featuring a shallow scoop
neckline, elbow length sleeves
and a sash of shocking pink
peau de soie, ending in a bow
at the back of the empire -style
dresses. They carried arm bou-
quets of pink gladioli with
streamers of matching shock-
ing pink peau de sole.
Bruce D. Shirray, RR 2, Hen-
sall. brother of the groom, was
best man, and Dwayne Tinney,
Exeter, brother of the bride,
and Gerald Chapman, RR 1,
Exeter. ushered guests.
The wedding reception was
held in the Commercial Hotel,
Hensall, beautifully decorated
with baskets of pink gladioli.
For receiving the groom's
mother received wearing a wil-
low green silk shantung sheath,
bone accessories, with which
she wore a Talisman rose cor-
sage.

Obituary
W. Smallacombe
Frederick W. T. Smallacombe,
well known businessman of
Guelph, died suddenly Tuesday
morning, July 6, with e heart
attack, after watching a late
movie on .television.
Mr. Smallacombe, 59, was
born in Hensall, a son of the
late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smalla-
combe. He was a veteran of
World War II, and a member
of the Masonic order in Guelph.
Surviving are his wife, Doro-
thy Waters; two sons, Fred
with the American airforce,
England; Clifford, Guelph; one
daughter, Sharon, at home; one
sister(Jean) Mrs. Cornelius
Faber, IR 3, Exeter. He was a
nephew of Miss M. Ellis.
Funeral service was held from
the Tovell funeral home,
Guelph, Thursday, July 8, with
burial in Woodlawn Cemetery,
Guelph.

Stage Shower
Mrs. Murray Baker and Mrs.
George Beer were hostesses at
the later's home, in honor of
Miss Marilyn Lonc, bride -elect
of Saturday, July 17.
The bride was escorted to a
decorated chair and presented
with a corsage of pink roses.
A social hour was enjoyed by
about 30 friends and relatives
of the bride.
The address was read by Dor-
othy Taylor and the gifts pre-
sented by Shirley and Marlyn
Brintnell.

The young couple will reside
in Hensall.
The groom is a graduate of
Western Ontario Agricultural
School Ridgetown, and the

Prior to marriage the bride
was feted. at several functions
in her honor, Mrs. Lorne Chap-
man entertained at a miscel-
laneous shower.
Friends and neighbors of SS
2, Hay, arranged a miscellan-
eous presentation.
The staff of the Bank of
Montreal, Hensall, met at the
home of Mrs. Doug Marcell and
presented her with a miscel-
laneous shower of gifts. Host-

Flt/Lt, R. D, McArthur, Mrs.
McArthur, Mac and Cam, of
Rivers, Man., spent the past
few days with Mr. and Mrs,
Fred Beer, before leaving for
Ottawa on Friday where
Flt/Lt. McArthur will remain
on temporary duty before going
on course at Trenton. Mrs.
McArthur and boys will return
to Hensall to spend the re-
mainder of the summer.
Miss Jean Henderson, who
has been on the teaching staff
at Kitkatla, B,C., has returned
home for her summer vacation.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reid
and Allan attended the Watson -
Helm wedding at Scarborough
on Saturday last
Grant and Kenneth Jones
will appear on John Dickens'
talent times on CFPL, London,
Sunday, August 29.
Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Shirray
were honored at a reception
and dance at the Zurich Com-
munity Centre Saturday eve-
ning, following their marriage
on Saturday. They were pre-
sented with a purse of money,
the presentation address read
by Dwayne Tinney, and the gift
by Bruce Shirray.
Mr. and Mrs, Albert Shirray
entertained the Shirray-Tinney
wedding party following re-
hearsal on Thursday evening at
their home.
Pamela, Sheila and Kevin
Lindsay, of Willowdale, are
spending this week with their
grandmother. Mrs. John Hend-
erson.
Mrs. Florence Joynt is a pa-
tient in South Huron Hospital,
Exeter.
Mrs. Robert Cook is a patient
in Victoria Hospital, London.

Miss Sharon Smillie graduat-
ed from the UWO School of
Nursing, receiving her diploma
in nursing education. Sharon
has accepted a position as a
clinical on the surgical floor
at St, Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don.
Captain Bill McRae, who has
been stationed in Tullahoma,
Tenn., has been posted to Ot-
tawa and with his wife and
family, Chrissie, Bill, Bob, Lau-
rie and Stephen, will take up
residence on August 3. They
were formerly of Hensall.
Miss Margaret Smillie has re-
turned from a pleasant motor-
ing tour along the St. Lawrence
Seaway and through the eastern
provinces.
Walter McNichol, of Far-
quhar, in Usborne Township,
has been admitted as a patient
to Queensway nursing home.
A farmer all his life, at 74 he
has retired. During his life he
was a well-known violinist, a
familiar figure at dances with
his violin in this part of the
country.
Mrs. Manley Jinks, who has
been a patient for the past
month in Clinton Public Hos-
pital, has left the hospital and
is recuperating at the home of
her son and daughter-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Jinks, and
family, Gail and Billy, of Lon-
don. Her daughter Susan is
also with her.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon White-
man and Beverly have returned
from a vacation spent with rel-
atives in Toronto and Ottawa.
Sgt. Ronald MacKinnon, of
the Highland Infantry, who has
been stationed in Germany for
four years, arrived in Trenton
Saturday night by RCAF plane,
and motored home arriving
here Sunday. With his wife
and fancily, Gary and Tami, he
will spend a month visiting
with his mother, Mrs. Donald
MacKinnon, and brothers Don-
ald and Bill. Sgt. MacKinnon
will be stationed in Canada.
Mr. and Mrs. George Parker
have returned from a week's
vacation spent with Mr. and
Mrs. Doug Wein, of Cape Breton
Island.

Over 90 children had taken the

The local softball team came
through with another win over
Londesboro last Saturday eve-
ning.
The annual Coleman picnic
will be held in the Lions Park,
Seaforth, on Saturday afternoon
of this week.
Miss Gail Nichols, of London,
spent the week -end at the home
of Miss Mildred Morrison.
An enjoyable day was spent
in Winghara on Saturday last
by the members of LOL 1035
with their families and friends.
The lodge had their new ban-
ner in the parade.
Trousseau Tea
Honors Teacher
Prior to Marriage
Mrs. Pearl Passmore, Hen-
sall, entertained at a trousseau
tea in honor of her daughter
Norma, whose marriage to Felix
Boogemans, Oakville, will take
place Saturday, July 17, at 3
p.m., in Hensall United Church.
Guests were received by Miss
Passmore, her mother, and Mrs.
Frans Boogemans, mother of
the groom -elect. The tea table
was covered with a white cut -
work cloth and centred with an
arrangement of white carna-
tions and pink bachelor buttons
and flanked by pink tapers.
Pouring tea was Mrs. May
Gates, Burlington. Assisting in
the tea room were Mrs. Ruth
Anne Boogemans, Mrs. Bernice
Boogemans, Miss Pat Rowe and
Miss Pat Harris. Gifts were
shown by Miss Sharon Smillie;
trousseau by Mrs, Ron Pass-
more, London, sister-in-law of
the bride -elect, and Carole
Westcott. Miss Sharon Lavery
was in charge of the guest
book.

laneous shower at the former's
home. The tea rooms were dec-
orated for the occasion and con-
tests and games were played.

With ideal weather prevail-
ing, the Lions Park, Seaforth,
on Saturday was the setting for
the annual Smillie Clan picnic
with a splendid attendance.
Officers elected were: hon-
orary president, Dr. Jennie
Robertson; president, Stewart
S milli e; vice-president, Mrs.
by the hostesses and Miss Mar-
garet Smillie.
Mrs. Stanley Gates, Burling-
ton, entertained at a cup and
saucer shower, assisted by Mrs.
May Gates.
The teachers and staff of the
John T. Tuck Public School,
Burlington, gave her a miscel-
laneous shower.
Neighbours of the groom -
elect at Dashwood made them
the presentation of two lawn
chairs.

A full afternoon and evening
was spent visiting and with

chef-girl-ar-dee event, won by
Mary Soafe and Grace Peck.

Elder picnic was held at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Delbert
Geiger, of Zurich.
