Most of the places that were asked if they had any scrap to give the club, re- plied that they had just got the way it was done. The farmers were too busy to look around and see if they had any- thing to give. It was not pub- lisized enough and there was not enough time allowed to give the people a'ehance to see what they had to give. Possibly another drive will be held later in the season and those who have anything they want to give will have a bet- ter chance to do so. What was given will help out quite a bit in buying balls and the players would like to thank the donors and the Fox Milling d the event. However. Ray McKin- non. who teed off later in the day was one of the late finishers and brought the trophy back to Zurich for John. This was the first time a member of the Zurich branch of the Bank of Montreal has won the trophy. Also competing besides John and Ray from the Zurich bank, was Doug Marcell of the Bank of Montreal, Hensall. Hurort-Perth Meeting The Huron -Perth Baseball League held it's third meeting of the year, in Hensall, a week ago last night and drew up the schedule as well as settling other business. Bob Sadler, Staffa, was the unanimous choice for presi- dent of the league. This will be his seventh year in that capac- ity. Jahn Livermore, Clinton, was again named to the secretary treasure post. John, who is Mrs. George Haggit's father, has held 'this post since sometime in the 1940's. The more people that get out to play, the better, and sooner a league can be formed. Perch Biting The perch have started to bite. Friday afternoon Mrs. Madeline Rau tried her luck at Grand Bend and hauled in sev- eral fine fish. Dashwood Returns Ron Merner deserves a lot of credit for the re-enter of Dash- wood into the Huron Perth Baseball League. He went to the meeting last week because he felt Dashwood should be represented as they had been contacte d. While there he made it very plain to all that Dashwood could start the sea- son in the league but from there on it was anyone's guess as to what would happen. With their team composing mainly of teenagers, he felt that after a few games some of them would be disappointed and call it quits. Others would have other things to do and would use the feeblest excuses possible to get out of playing. The same goes for every team. Some people will go out and work their heart out to see a team get started in a league. Other people, and we are talk- ing about players, will sit on their "you know what" and do nothing, or very little to help. Yet they expect to play in every game and they also do more than their share of com- plaining. Half of them prac- tice when, and if- they feel like it. A stop could be put to this if every team had about 25 good players who wanted to play ball. Then they would be treated like the Walkerton players. There are no favorites on their team. 'We know Zurich has not got enough good players to do this and we don't think Dashwood has either. However, we do know that Zurich has a few that are working pretty hard to get things going. They also have some players that can't get out to help because they are working, but they can get to the games, There are also some that will not be able to THURSDAY, JUNE 10, 1965 make it to the games some nights because their jobs will interfere. But, there are also some that are not practicing or helping in any way. Why, we don't really* know, but our guess is that they are the kind that want lo play and do nothing else to help. The players on the Zurich team have to do a lot better than they have been doing if they want to see bail live here. Those who are not doing their share of the work had better get out and help right now, Minor Bail Registration Registration for minor ball, under Zurich MAA, will be held Friday night at 7:30. Any boy or girl who has not filled out a forin can still play softball this year of they regie- ter on Friday night. Registration will be held at the public school, Golf Scores We hope to start reporting the top golf scores shot during the week at the Bayview golf course. We encourage you to turn in your score card to the office at the golf course or to us at the Citizens News. No one knows what the best score will be each week so be sure to turn yours in.
