First Practice
The Zurich intermediate ball
club held their first practice
Friday night. About a dozen
were on hand for the drill
which was confined to batting
practice and shagging fly balls,
This was about all that could
be accomplished because of the
diamond condition, especially
the long grass in the outfield.
Officers Elected
At the baseball meeting Fri-
day night Jim Bedard was re-
elected as president of the ball
team. Vice-president for the
1965 season is Phil Overholt.
Named to the board of directors
this year were Jim Dalton,
Gordie Block and Herb Turk -
beim. Rounding out the offi-
cers is secretary -treasurer, Louis
Willert.
It was decided to send a rep-
resentative to the meeting in
Hensen when the schedule will
be drawn up. The idea of hav-
ing a manager, and a field man-
ager as well, was "kicked l
around" with the decision left
up to the executive. By having
the two positions it was felt
that all the work would not be
left up to one person, thereby
giving them both a chance to
do a more thorough job with
less time consumed on their
part.
Discussion ranged from fi-
nances, players, ways to im-
prove the crowds to the condi-
tion of the playing field, It
was decided that the grass
would have to be cut before a
down-to-earth practice could be
held. PMI Overholt and George
Haggit volunteered to work on
the diamond before the next

practice which was last Mon-
day.
The first t cat on the dia-
mond was completed Saturday
morning when Bob Johnston
cut the grass around the infield
and part way into the outfield.
Jim Dalton made a nice don-
ation to the club on behalf of
Fox Milling and Lumber, by
offering the team the money
their company will receive from
a truck load of scrap iron they
have to sell. Any person
around town who would like to
help the ball club with a small
donation can do so by donating
any scrap iron they have laying
around to the team. The play-
ers will be gathering it this
Saturday, so if you want to help
out and get rid of your old
scrap iron which is laying
around, call Jim Dalton at 236-
4381, or give us a call at 236-
4672 before Saturday morning.
Horseshoe Night
The horseshoe players have
decided they are going to have
a night set aside for horseshoe
pitching. Providing the pegs!
don't get stolen again. which
they were on Monday. there
will be horseshoe pitching every
Wednesday night, weather per-
mitting, at the court behind the
Citizens News.
When enough players start
participating in the game a
schedule will be drawn up and
the scores recorded for this
column.
The best part about this sport
is the fact that no charge is
made to play.
Why -Oh -Why
Why -oh -why do the TV net-
works that carry Saturday's ball
game pull such stupid and mad-
dening blunders Iike they did
Saturday. With ane Yankee
out and Chicago winning 6-3 in
the top of the ninth inning,
they announced they were leav-
ing the ball game to bring an-
other program, which was also
a sports program, to their net-
work. This was the U.S. net-
work. Then the CBC continues
by saying that they will give a
rundown report of the game.
They didn't even have their
record completed up to when
the first man went 'out in the
ninth, or even knew the second
man had flied out while the
announcement was being made.
People complained that the
hockey is stupid starting when
the game is in progress. We
are one of them. Now we think
it is better to start watehing
a little late in the game than
having to miss the ending, espe-
cially when it is one of the
great teams from Chicago play-
ing.
Mouthie Wins Again
Is it "mouthie" or Mabamad,
or Cassius, or who, that is ter-
rorizing the boxing world. The
world is roaring that Clay and
Liston were in a fixed fight.
They have been accusing box-
ers for years that they are par-
ticipating in a racket. Maybe
they are, but just because Clay
happens to be able to win his
fight in one round, and any-
where from one minute as some
reports have it, to two minutes
and 11 seconds, is no reason to

really believe he is crooked.
Take Patterson a few year ago,
How many rounds did he last
in a couple of fights? What
about the unknown Johannsen
who won and then got on the
other side of the fence? Ever
hear of the great Liston who
once was termed unbeatable?
He could always manage to
handle front three to six cops
in some of his "lets call then
practice fights"? Now there is
the talking machine.
Is he unbeatable, is he crook-
ed, can he really fight? Maybe
he can do these things, maybe
he can't, Some day the world
may know.
But let's not knock Clay be-
cause he shoots off his mouth
so much, After all, he has not
told too many lies, Let's not
knock him because he is a
Negro or a Black Muslem. He
had no choice about his being
a Negro and his decision to go
and join the • Black Muslems
was one he had a right to make
in this so-called free world.
We will switch from Clay
only when he fights a Canadian

may be, but we doubt it,
