On Friday night, .April 9, a
very pleasant evening was ar-
xanged for Mr, .and Mrs. Bert
Greer on the occasion of their
25th wedding anniversary. ,
As this was to be a surprise
party, Mrs. Greer was invited
by her daughter Joyce and a
girl friend to go for a drive
with them while son -In-law Ray
took Mr. Greer in his ear, sup-
posedly to go to the garage in
Bayfield for •a while. Both
landed at the school house on
the highway to find that about
60 of their friends and neigh-
bors had gathered there in their
honor.
Games and contests were en-
joyed, followed by a mock wed-
ding. The groom, Ruth Makins,
entered the room closely fol-
lowed by the enraged father of
the bride, played by Ann Chap-
man, who threatened to shoot
if he married -.his daughter,
Gladys Talbot took the part of
,the minister; Gladwin Westlake
acted as the bride; Joyce Rob-
inson as maid of honor .and
Louise Talbot as bridesmaid,
attended the bride and Robert
Turner supported the groom.

Following this, Grant Stirling
acted as master of ceremonies,
and asked the bride and groom
and their attendants of 25 years
ago, Mrs, Glen Layton and Rob-
ert Turner, to come forward,
and after a few words asked
the couple to accept a bronze -
tone kitchen set on behalf of
the gathering.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Greer
thanked their friends for their
thoughtfulness and invited
them to visit them in their
home.
After singing, "For they are
jolly good fellows", lunch was
served, with the guests of hon-
or seated at a table done in
pink and white with touches of
silver and centred with a three -
tiered anniversary cake.
Mr. and Mrs. Randolph Sam-
muett, Marlton, spent Friday
to Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
Gladwin Westlake.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Chapman
and Joanne, Goderich, have
moved into the house formerly
occupied by Mrs. Chapman's
grandfather, Mr. E. A. West-
lake, in Bayfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon West-
lake, Mr. and Mrs. Gladwin
Westlake, Mr. and Mrs. Richard
Erb, Mr. and Mrs. John Keys,
and Mr, and Mrs. Russell
Grainger attended the funeral
of their cousin, Miss Leeta Pen -
hale, in St. Thomas, on Wednes-
day.

Miss Sandra Westlake, nurse -
in -training at St. Thomas Elgie
General Hospital, St. Thomas,
spent the week -end with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Gordon
Westlake.

Head of South
Huron Hospitf
Ivan Kalbfleisch, of Zurich,
last week was elected president
of the South Huron District
Hospital board of directors. He
succeeds Douglas Cook, of Hen-
sall.
Hospital administrator Miss
Alice Claypole said there were
1,461 admissions during 1964
for a total of 14,069 patient -
days, an increase of 1,846 over
1963.
Three hundred babies were
born at the hospital during
1964, including five sets of
twins.
Other officers elected: Vice-
president, Mrs. J. G. Dunlop;
treasurer, C. L. Smith; secre-
tary, Mrs. Ethel Selby, all of
Exeter.
Directors are: Mr. Cook; B.
W. Tuckey, of Exeter; J. B.
Pryde, of Exeter; Mr. Kalb-
fleisch; Elmer D. Bell, of Exe-
ter; Mrs. Dunlop; Ulric Snell, of

Four persons were elected
honorary directors. This is the
first time there has been such
a position. They are Highways
Minister C. L. MacNaughton, of
Exeter; Elgin Rowcliffe, of Hen-
sall; William E. Ellerington, of
Exeter, and Harry Beaver, of
Crediton.

Staniey Township
Approves Of
Centennial Project
Final approval has been re-
ceived for Stanley Township's
Canada centennial project, a
40 -by -60 addition to the Bay-
field natural ice arena.
Mel Graham, of Brucefield,
township clerk, said the addi-
tion will cost about $8,250.
Grants will total $4,098.
Street lights will be installed
in the hamlet of Kippen with
the cost divided by Stanley, Hay
a n d Tuckersmith townships.
Kippen, with a population of
60, on Highway 4, borders on
each of the three townships.
Estimated cost to install 10
street lights is $1,900.
Council awarded the contract
for a concrete bridge to K and
M. Construction of Sebringville
for $5,268. The bridge will re-
place another on Concessions 2
and 3, a mile west and a half -
mile south of the Clinton RCAF
Station.
Lee Jennison, of Grand Bend,
was awarded a contract to de-
liver 100 tons of calcium chlor-
ide at $47.50 per ton and the
Sandy Construction Co., of
Goderich, was awarded a con-
tract for crushing and hauling
16,000 cubic yards of gravel at
69c a cubic yard delivered on
the road and 50c a cubic yard
stockpiled.

Re -opening Service
The re -opening of the United
Church was held last Sunday
morning, with the pastor, Rev.
M. Morrison, in charge. The
choir, under the direction of
Mrs. Robert Stirling, sang a
suitable anthem.
Miss Carol and Mr. Don Tay-
lor sang a duet, "There's a
Church in the Wildwood" and
Miss Mildred Morrison sang a
solo, "Bless This House". The
president of the UCW, Mrs.
Robert Taylor, thanked all who
helped with the re -decorating -
Thank -Offering
The UCW Easter thank -offer-
ing service was held on Sunday
evening last with visitors from
Holmesville, Turners, Bruce -
field, Bayfield and Goshen. Mrs.
Mervin Hayter gave the call to
worship and Mrs. Charles Reid
read the Scripture lesson. Mrs.
A. 3. Mustard introduced the
speaker, Mrs. G. Beecroft, of
Belgrave, who gave, a very in-
spiring address. The "Pilgrim
Singers", of Clinton, sang a
number of hymns which were
greatly appreciated. Mrs. E.
McClinchey thanked the speak-
er and the singers, and Rev.
M. Morrison pronounced t h e

benediction. Lunch was served.
A Good Friday Service will
be held in the United Church
o n Friday evening of this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Craig
have taken over the garage
from Melvin and Robert Web-
ster.
