Stanley and
Tuckersmith In
County Area
At county council last week,
the Public School Consultative
Committee recommended that a
county school area be formed
to include the village of Bay-
field, the Township Scheel Area
of the Township of Stanley, and
the Township School Area of
the Township of Tuckersmith,
and that the necessary by-law
be prepared.
The committee stated that
they believed the provisions of
the recent legislation to corn -
bine two or more municipalities
in planning school accommoda-
tion is sound. It is believed
that with the changes of eco-
nomic conditions in rural and
small urban communities, it is
imperative that plans for educa-
tion should be carefully con-
sidered.
With the establishment of
central schools in the several
townships and the necessary
transportation systems, it seems
obvious that in the future it
will be necessary to correlate
the transportation systems of
elementary and secondary
schools. For this reason it will
be necessary for this commit-
tee to arrange meetings with
several school boards and mu-
nicipal councils.
J. C. Burrows, inspector of
public schools, reported that the
recommendations incorporated
in the by-law would be forward-
ed to the minister of education
for final approval.
