Plattsville 9—Zurich 4 The Zurich MAA Juveniles were defeated by Plattsville on Friday night in the first game of the OMHA juvenile semi- finals, 9-4. The Zurich crew were unable to find their legs in the large New Hamburg arena, and were easy victims for the Plattsville crew. Hollcott put Plattsville into the lead with a goal at 8:50 of the opening period. Schade tied the game at 16:15 after Plattsville failed to clear a loose puck. Miller and Soldan as - sited on the marker. Barry Block, who was by far the best man on the ice for Zurich, later intercepted a bad pass and went in alone to beat Zehr with a shot to the lower left hand corner. This gave Zurich their only lead of the game. Fifteen seconds later Schillings dug the puck out of the corner and passed to Cliff Littlejohns, who made no mis- take in tieing up the game. Littlejohns came back with another goal on the next rush putting Plattsville ahead to stay. His brother, Tom, set up the goal when he took the puck away from a Zurich defenceman with only 40 seconds remaining in the period. Becker got called twice with Zurich penalties to a lone inter- ference penalty to Plattsville, in the pediod. Plattsville added two goals to Zurich's one in the second peri- SPECIALS For This Week! Brown scored first from Harmer and Moss at 8:42, then the smooth skating Harmer stole the puck and set Hollcott up with his second goal. Ken Westlake scored a beautiful goal at 17:30 to put Zurich back in the game. Hoffman had fought loose from Love behind the Platsville net and passed to Block, who fed the puck to Westlake. He was covered and had his back to the net, how- ever, he whirled around and beat the goalie with his hard shot. Plattsville had the only pen- alty in the period. Early in the third period Zur- ich cut the lead to 54 when Miller, Schade and Bannister teamed up for a goal which was notched by Miller. Neil Harm- er then took over and sewed up the game for Plattsville. He grabbed a pass from behind the net and scored at 1:17, and about eight minutes later he scored unassisted after slipping his way through the Zurich team. Graham added two goals to the Platsville total and salted away the game from the weak and slow skating Zurich crew. Zurich again was assessed two penalties to one for Platts- ville. Harmer was the star for Plattsville with two goals and two assists, while Barry Block came up with a goal and an assist to shine for Zurich. Zurich 4—Plattsville 4 Zurich and Plattsville played to an, overtime tie in the sec- ond game •of their series in Hen- sall Arena Monday night. The game was a lively one compared to the first game with plenty of excitement and a far better team effort by the hard skat- ing and fine checking Zurich club. Both teams had plenty of scoring chances in the 4-4 en- counter, with great saves by both goalies keeping the score down, as well as fine defensive plays by all the fenecemen in action. Zurich was slow geting un- tracked in the opening period and as ,a result found them- selves outplayed as well as out- scored. Brown wasted no time in putting Plattsville ahead with a goal at 1:15. Harmer had passed to him and he beat Geoffrey, who was flat on the ice, with his second shot. Bill Schade, who was robbed all night, started his hard luck for the evening by hitting the post after stealing a pass in the Plattsville end early in the game. Minutes later he was robbed by the goalie again after stealing another pass. How- ever, Schade never gave up and his fine play and hard checking was an important part in the outcome of the game. Rabe scored unassisted near the middle of the session after escaping from an attempted sandwich by Zurich defence. Eight penalties were called in the first period with four going to each side. Coach Larry Bedard must have laid down the law to his club between the first and sec- ond period because they came out flying and were in control- of ontrolof play for the better part of the second period. Westlake notched a goal from his position in front of the net at 1:15 with the hard-working Schade and Hoffman assisting, Eugene Guenther tied the game minutes later with help from Miller and Soldan. Brown put Plattsville back in the lead when he scored while Westlake sat out a slashing call, The period ended 3-2 for the visiting club. Zurich had the only two penalties of the period. Beemer got caught interfer- ing early in the third period and Zurich tied the game while he was "resting" in the sin -bin. Westlake got the goal with Schade and Hoffman helping make it possible. Hoffman, who was reported to be playing while "under the weather," shot Zurich ahead with a goal near the five min- ute mark. Barry Block drew an assist on the play, Zurich ran into two fast pen- alties and before they had re- turned to full strength Platts- ville had scored despite some fine work by the Zurich penalty killers and a brilliant display of netminding by Geoffrey. Block got nailed for boarding and Becker followed with a hooking penalty less than a minute later, setting the stage for the tieing goal. Carl Little - johns netted the tally after Geoffrey had stopped two point- blank shots. The next 12 minutes saw play race from end to end with out a score and the fast -tiring play- ers were forced into ten-minute overtime period, with only time to get a short breather. ZURICH r Plattsville held off any scores. Play was not as fast in the overtime but several good plays materialized. Schade had the best Zurich chance shortly after returning from being racked up, but lost the puck after fak- ng the goalie. Harmer :had a break-in an the Zurich net late in the game but Block dived and helped stop the play. Schade, Bannister, Geoffrey and Becker all turned in excel- lent performances for Zurich.
