Zurich Citizens News, 1965-03-11, Page 8PAGE EIGHT THURSDAY, MARCH 11, 1965 March SeGsio,: of Coummty Council To Discuss Tax Levy, i ronview Goderich -- II u r a n County council, at its March session, is expected to increase the tax levy. Clerk -treasurer John C. Berry warned council last November that a one -mill increase was in- dicated, if the present program was to be continued. He qual- ified this by pointing out that an allocation might be made for future capital outlay, as an alternative to debenturing or pay-as-you-go. In any case, the amount of increase will be determined by acceptance of the various com- mittee reports and their pro- jects. The roads committee has already .recommended an in- crease of three-quarters of a mill. On the agenda for March 24- 25 is discussion in connection with the county roads needs study, set up in this and other counties to estimate future con- struction. maintenance and op- erating needs and to determine population and assessment trends. The Huron study has ben directed by Ralph Jewell, 1964 warden; roads committee chairman Joseph Kerr, Wing - ham, along with the district municipal engineer and a rep- resentative of the highway de- partment. It was carried out by McCormick & Rankin, con- sulting engineers, Port Credit. "Pending implementation of the needs study recommenda- tions in 1966," committee chair. man Kerr reported at the Jan- uary session, "we recommend a mill rate for highway purposes in 1965 of 8.75,•" The general purpose rate set Iast March was six mills and eight for roads. Though council in January approved construction of a 75 - bed addition to Huronview, no action has yet been taken by the committee relative to the actual building program, and there is to be further discus- sion. Canadian social worker Doris Clark invites you to write her about your problem. She answers letters of general interest,in this column but can't undertake personal replies. DEAR DORS-My wife and I are in our forties. We have difficulties. It is I who has to do all the persuad- ing. I was told by a clergyman the type of relationship where one must always play up to the other never was any good, I don'texpect someone to ravish me, but when you're hungry you'd give almost any- thing for the other half to show some affection. LONELY BILL DEAR BILL - Indeed you would. But is your own ap- proach gentle enough? Most women like to be wooed. Since her remoteness is of long standing, I'd suggest you talk to your wife's doctor about this. And I am sending a list of books on sex which come well recommended. This is too important to be ignored. even at this late date in your marriage. DEAR DORIS-I was born an orphan 19 years ago as my mother was only 13 and couldn't look after me. I lived with a family who never adopted me. Things got bad when the lady died and I looked for my moth- er through the agency and found her. She is still unmar- ried. My schooling ended in grade nine. I worked as nurse's aide and now I'm working as a do- mestic. It is my 80 -year-old employers who asked me to write to Doris for guidance. I want to make good on my own. I would like to be a singer. I've done a lot of singing for weddings, radio, church serv- ices. How could. I get started. ORPHAN DEAR ORPHAN -I'd say you are already started. A girl with your drive is likely to get some- where, At the same time, a singer needs an education. And only the singers who reach the top support themselves with their voices. Aim to improve your educa- tion, even if this means work- ing while you study (at nights or by correspondence). Then choose a remunerative career that will use your other abili- ties. (Nursing? Stenography?) Once you are really self-sup- porting, find the best teacher you can to develop your voice. Rome wasn't built in a day. Good luck! DEAR DORIS - I am light - housekeeping in the same house as another girl attending col- lege. She is a bit of a flirt. When my boy friend calls for me she always manages to be in my room. 4111111111111111111111. Rose Margarine 3/79c 76Os. Ice Jar 16 -Oz. COAL --- CEMENT PHONE 8 DASHWOOD The exciting action of the World Hockey Championship will be carried on CBC radio and television iri March. The tournament, which has teams entered from .such countries as the United States, Sweden, Canada, Czechoslovakia and the U.S.S.R., is being held in Tampere, Finland, and started March 3. Above photo was taken at a recent Russia - Canada exhibition match played in Toronto. We share one telephone and it is in her room. She always answers it, even if I'm expect- ing a call. If it's niy B.F. she talks for a few minutes end this burns me up. SEEING RED DEAR SEEING -The color is green, Dearie, But I can't say I blame you. It's time you had your own phone, Tell her you are think- ing of this. If she can't face the expense, this might be enough to move her to letting you answer your own phone calls. Or to having the phone moved to your room for awhile. DEAR DORIS - Thank you for the information you sent me. As a result I purchased a "sandpaper hall" for my moustache. It worked wonder- fully. But when I rub my upper lip it irritates it and forms red areas. Could you suggest a cream I could use to clear it of the raw look? MARY ANN DEAR MARY ANN -Perhaps a depilatory would be less chaf- ing than the so-called "velvet mitt" when you are using it on the sensitive skin of your face. I am sending you a leaflet "Removing Unwanted Hca i'r' which discusses several meth- ods, ad recommends a soothing cream for use after. Zurich won the first game of the series last Saturday night in Hensall when they staged a terrific come -from -behind drive in the third period to edge out the visitors 5-4, but then back in Mount Forest an Monday night they came out on the short end of an 11-7 score. Ken Westlake was the big gun in the two games, scoring seven goals, three in the first and four in the second. Bill Schade scored twice in the first game and once in the second. In the Saturday night contest, the visitors went into a 3-2 lead by the end of the first period, and increased the count to 4-2 early in the third. Then the locals caught fire and scored three goals in five minutes to salt away the victory. Monday night Zurich shot :7, - to an early 2-0 lead in the first period, only to have Drayton tie the count at 2-2 before the end of the session. The rig difference in the game came in the second stanza when Dray- ton pumped in four unanswered goals, Both teams score five tines in the third period. Along with Westlake scoring four goals in the game, Bill Hoffman, Barry Bloch and B11 Schacle each blinked the ;cud light once.
