For the information of our be poured from a bottle.
readers, we have prepared this
special feature in an attempt
to present all the arguments—
pro and eon—concerning the
care of the aged in Huron
County.
It is not out intention to in-
fluence public thinking for we
believe this is unnecessary. Hur-
on County council has made its
decision. It has spoken for the
people.
We do believe though, that
people in our area should have
the opportunity to assess the
facts and we ask them to do so
with an open mind.
Decentralization
Supporters for the move to
have another county institution
built on another site are con-
vinced this is best for the aged.
It is felt that if a home were
built ideally at either end of
the county, they, with the estab-
lished home at Clinton, would
put all hospital residents closer
to their home localities.
It is felt that relatives and
friends would be able to visit
with their loved ones more of-
ten. This is seen as a definite
humanitarian benefit since fre-
quent visit with children, grand-
children, brothers and sisters is
a magic medicine that can never
Supporters are willing to ad-
mit that a home on a site away
from Clinton would involve ex-
tra cost to the taxpayer. It has
been estimated that $88,000
extra, half of which cost would
come through grants, would be
a small price to pay for the
added convenience and mental
well-being of both family and
hospital resident.
Another argument that bears
discussion is that decentraliza-
tion supporters think it is about
time that other parts of the
county shared in the economic
advantages that would go with
go wih another business or in-
dustry in the community.
They reason that persons in
the Wingham or Exeter areas,
for instance, should have the
opportunity for jobs that would
go with a county home for the
aged in those districts. It is a
well known fact that cooks,
cleaners, maintenance person-
nel, as well as professional
people would be required to
staff an establishment similar
to Huronview.
Supporters for this cause
agree that the added employ-
ment sources outside of Clinton
would he a welcomed change
from the complete monoply on
county and provincial establish-
ments in the central regions of

Huron.
They point to the court house
and the Ontario Hospital. in
Goderich, the agricultural of-
fices, the vocational school, and
of course, Huronview at Clin-
ton, as examples of the way
residents in the middle of Hur-
on have gained control of the
"cream” in the county.
Decentralization of Huron -
view is seen as a unique way to
get better conditions for the
aged as well as some purely
financial gains from the county
to which they pay a good por-
tion of their taxes.
Centralization
Those who are in favor of
building an addition at the ex-
isting hone at Clinton also be-
lieve it is best for the aged folk
of Huron.
It has been known for a long
time that some residents at
Huronview are not happy. This
unhappiness did not grow from
lack of visitors or the great dis-
tances between them and their
families. It was brought on by
the depression which set in af-
ter they realized they were
forced to live side-by-side with
unfortunate souls, who, through
no fault of their own, had be-
come chronically ill or mentally
disturbed.
Those persons who had en-
tered the home to enjoy com-
panionship with persons of their
own age and interests found
that day -in and day -out contact
with bed -ridden or senile pa-
tients filled their lives with an
uncomfortable sadness worse
than anything they had ever
known.

hileration it will give to the

Unique Forum
Exactly 50 per cent of all
farm accidents in the morning
occur between ten and eleven
o'clock while the danger period
in the afternoon is between two
and four. It has been proven
these are the peak fatigue times
in any day.
These interesting facts were
reported to the members of the
Unique Farm Forum, gathered
at the home of Bert Klopp.
The topic for discussion was
"Safety Everywhere Everyday".
Findings at the meeting
showed that many mishaps are
due to carelessness and faulty
equipment, with the corn picker
designated as the deadliest of
all farm machinery.
Resolutions included a rec-
ommendation for regular safety
checks about the farm to seek
out trouble spots such as worn
tires, faulty brakes, unsatisfac-
tory drawbolts and hitches, etc.
The next meeting will be at
the home of Mr. and Mrs. Cliff
Pepper on Monday.

rests r rats
morale of the residents there
who want a home -life away from
home.
They see the construction of
a home elsewhere in the county
as putting the cart before the
horse.
They say, "Let's finish the
work we've begun at Huronview
before we decentralize. Let's
provide proper facilities there
first before we add to the trou-
ble by building another home
where unhappiness is bound to
set in too."
Some feel that the extra ex-
pense at this time would be an
unnecessary burden to taxpay-
ers in Huron who are begining
to sense the costs of the central
school building plans in the
county. They are wondering
just how much those plans will
affect their taxes. They hesi-
tate to impose a too greatly in-
creased county mill rate on
Huronites at this time.
They know full well the esti-
mates were very rough with re-
gard to costs of a home away
from Huronview. It is con-
ceivable that facilitities and
equipment at present incorpor-
ated in Huronview would have
to be duplicated at any building
on any other site; and could
put costs way above the esti-
mate.
The continued centralization
of Huron County's home for the
aged is considered the best so-
lution for the time being since
improved conditions are urgent-
ly needed at Huronview and tax
dollars spent outside of Huron -
view gates could, and probably
would, buy only a repetition of
the problems now encountered
at Huronview.

Because it's more effective. SHUR-GAIN Fertilizer is granulated after the
ingredients have been mixed and is not just a blend of granular
materials. As a result each granule contains all three plant food
elements in the right proportions.
Ordinary granular and blended fertilizers simply consist of a
mixture of ingredients, either in powder form or granules. Although
it's easier to make fertilizer that way it cannot be as effective in use
due to the separation of ingredients of different size and weight.
As every granule contains all the guaranteed plant food elements,
SHUR-GAIN Selected -Granulated Fertilizer remains completely bal-
anced throughout storing, shipping and spreading—resulting in
balanced feeding of plants from every granule; consistent, more even
application of the best possible fertilizer to give you maximum
yields and top returns from your fertilizer dollar.
As always it pays to get the finest fertilizer for your good earth—
