February Thoughts Commenting on the month of February with its changeable weather from cold to mild, very much different from past ones with unusual stuff poured down on us such as floods in many St. Peter's LCW Hear Recording Due to icy conditions last Tuesday evening the LCW of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Zurich, held their regular monthly meeting Wednesday afternoon with an attendance of 30. The speaker, Gertrude Behan- na, was heard through a record- ing. She told of her ungodly life as she experienced luxuries and wealth, marriages and a family, and all freedom, in which she never found happi- ness. pp ness. Through the years friends avoided her and guilt and shame mounted, which finally crippled her mind and body. After reading an article, "It is never too late to start over", she cast aside ail her evil ways of life. She started by giving, sharing and doing for others. She made many friends and found peace. contentment and true happiness. Her humorous yet inspirational tale gave much food for thought. The president, Mrs. Carl Wil- lert, conducted business. It was reported that 20 sick calls were made in January. Two finished quilts for donation to Waterloo L.U. girls' dormitory were on display and 45 knitted squares were brought in. Group 3 reported a dinner had been served to 65 at the annual congregational meeting. Celebrants of a golden wed- ding anniversary made a gener- our contribution to the LCW treasury in honor of the event. A hearty vote of thanks and hest wishes were expressed by all members to Mr. and Mrs. R. F. Stade. Two new projects, making two acolyte gowns, and collect- ing children's books for a li- brary in British Guiana, were approved. You Are Welcome centres which caused much damages. also much disturb- ances and excitments in many homes, the cause of this present February differing from many past ones seems to be unknown. To the weather forecasters, 't • u guess can be hi aid. only rough 0 g o ed out and that you are ex- pected to accept. Many people today are of the opinion that the old time winters with Feb- ruary the bully month to pour out cold were much more agree- able and also more purifying the air, which we all must agree. Of course, when abiding in a cold, hard winter, you must be prepared to accept what comes, facing bitter cold, wading knee- deep in snow and of course, you could be trapped in your home for days before there would be an opening for you to make your exit. All of that cannot be called favorable. On the other hand, such as this present one so far, there has been much to contend with, some of it was rather disagree - Local Girl Guides Will Observe Thinking Day able and at times, confusing as to what move to make to get out of the way of the high water. When all this is taken into consideration, it is hard to give the most suitable answer. Re- gardless of your decisions or mine, nature has its way in forming its seasons, and after 1 the seasons have passed on, you will find yourself none of the ree ble to you worst, beit a or xt , g y be it vice versa, 0 On February 22 both the founder of Girl Guiding, Robert Baden-Powell and his wife, Lady Baden-Powell, w o r l d chief Guide, celebrated their birth- days. Such a convenient double birthday seemed the natural time to do something special. At the fourth world conference in 1926, the suggestion was, made to make it a "Thinking Day" when Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world would take special time to think of each other. The idea was gladly adopted. Six years later at the seventh world conference in 1932 it was suggested that all Guides and Girl Scouts contribute a "penny" on Thinking Day to help world Guiding. This also won rapid acceptance. Now the day is observed all over the world. In most coun- tries Guides take part in special ceremonies, church parades or community bonfire. The Zurich Girl Guides are putting a Guiding display in Gascho's Dry Goods store win- dow. They will attend the Evangelical church this 'coming Sunday morning as well. 0 High School Plans Are Rejected (Continued from Page 1) and scope to the present sec- ondary school in Clinton," said. secretary Howey. It has been hinted as many as seven shops could be incor- ated in an approved plan, with facilities to teach auto mechan- ics, carpentry, electricity, elec- tronics, small motor repair and boys' occupations. In the Meantime Board members have agreed the addition will not be ready until at least the fall of 1966, and •are now concerned about accommodations for the coming September. Palmer will inquire what areas of instruction are avail- able and what numbers of stu- dents from SHDHS can be ac- commodated at Clinton and St. Marys for the next school year.
