social relations group of which
Mrs. Eben Weigandwas chair -
lady, was opened with a poem.
A brief survey of the church's
work in Asia introduced the
topic, "The influence of Chris-
tian mission in the new nations
of Asia, the present challenges
there are there, and the assis-
tance that Christians can give
Christ's church in the Far East",
were discussed by a panel con-
sisting of Mrs. Stuart Wolfe,
Mrs. Jack Geiser and Mrs. Ray
Guenther, led by Mrs, Eben
Weigand.
Others who assisted in the
discussion were Mrs. Charles
Snell, Mrs. Art Haugh, Mrs.
Mervyn Tiernan, Mrs. Lloyd
Guenther, Mrs. Ken McCrae,
and Mrs, Lloyd Beaver. The
Scripture was read by Mrs. Mer-
rill James.
A sing -song of favorite
hymns, a poem in keeping with
the topic and prayer brought
the program to a close.
The vice-president, Mrs. Hobbs
Taylor, presided for the busi-
ness. Mrs. Mervyn Tiernan re-
ported that the World Day of
Prayer will be held March 5 at

Firemen's Banquet
The annual banquet for the
Dashwood volunteer fire bri-
gade was held Wednesday, Feb-
ruary 3, with the village trus-
tees and their wives preparing
and serving the meal.
Stuart Wolfe, who has been
with the brigade for many years
and has found it necessary to
retire, was presented with a
gift. He recalled many inci-
dents that had happened during
his career and stated that al-
though he enjoyed the social
events, a fireman's work was
not all sunshine, but the thanks
revealed in people's faces was
indeed rewarding when one had
saved their home or properties.
Bunco was played with win-
ners as follows: High, Mrs.
Stuart Wolfe and Ken McCrae;
low Mrs. Mervyn Webb and
Ron Braid. Cards and music
finished the evening.
Epiphany Family Night
Zion Lutheran Church held
family night, Friday, February
5, with a good attendance. Two
films were shown, one from
"This Is the Life", and one on
work in Africa. Each organiza-
tion in the church presented
numbers as well as singing. The
Ladies' Aid, with group 4 in
charge, organized the evening
and served a pooled lunch.

For Area Scihool
To Begin Work
The school board of Stephen
has taken an option of 12 acres
of land on Highway 86 about
four miles south of Dashwood
and five miles west of Crediton
on the property of Gordon Ratz,
RR 3, Dashwood.
J. G. Burrows, public school
inspector of Exeter, reports that
contrary to some opinions, the
option does not mean the prop-
erty will be the sight of the
proposed Stephen Town ship
Central School. He said three
other sights east of the Ratz
property and west of Crediton
are under consideration, and
may be optioned.
Other opinions are being
sought by the board as to the
advisability of the already op-
tioned land for building pur-
poses. Some severe drawbacks
are connected with the site.
School supporters in both
Crediton and Dashwood have
indicated their desire to have
the school located in close prox-
imity to their respective vil-
lages. A number of residents
in the eastern end of Stephen
are opposed to the site now un-
der option.
The Stephen school board
hopes to have the 10.12 room
school built and ready for occu-
pancy by September. Inspector
Burrows has urged the board to
move quickly in a constructive
manner if the school is to be
ready for the 1965 fall term.
Elsewhere on Consolidation
Tuckersmith school board has
asked Stanley Township to come
up with a definite decision by
Friday concerning a possible
union central school at Bruce -
field. A meeting is scheduled
in Stanley for this evening.
Members of the Stanley board
called off a meeting with In-
spector J. G. Burrows last Wed-
nesday evening due to the ill -
brothers, William and Chris, of
Dashwood, and Art, of Exeter.
The service was held Wednes-
day at the family home with
burial in Corwin Cemetery,

ness of the secretary -treasurer
but have been visiting central
schools in the district,
Certain recommendations by
the department of education
would seem to suggest that the
amalgamation of the school pop-
ulation in Tuckersznith and
Stanley townships is considered
most desirable because of the
diminishing rural population in
these areas.
If a union central school were
built at Brucefield, said Bur-
rows, the abandonment of the
Bayfield school would be a con-
sideration.
Hay Township
AIthough Hay Township has
come to a decision concerning
its school sites, long hours of
work and careful planning are
necessary before the additions
at Zurich and Hensall are con-
structed.
The delay with regard to the
issuance of debentures in Hay
has caused some concern for the
board. The tender on the Zur-
ich addition has been accepted
but cannot be let until the mat-
ter of debentures is settled.
The date for awarding the
contract has passed but Frank
Van Bussel and Sons, of Lucan,
tentative contractors, have not
pushed the board to come to
terms.
Hay Township board also has
set September as their goal for
the completion of both the ad-
ditions. Plans for the Hensall
addition were expected to be
agreed upon at a meeting at the
school last night.
Beef Producers
A proposal to adequately
bond all processors of farm
produce will be forwarded by
the members of the Huron
County Beef Improvement Asso-
ciation to the Ontario Beef Im-
provement Association for pres-
entation at the annual provin-
cial meeting in Toronto next
week.
A number of Huron beef pro-
ducers are reported to have lost
money when a packing plant in
Stratford went into receivership
recently. It is hoped that if the
proposal is given provincial ap-
proval, it would prevent pro-
duce seizure by eretitors other
than the original owners,
