Last Year a Good One
New Year's day in this parish
dates back to the primitive days
among the early settlers and a
day set aside where families
gathered together to exchange
to one another good wishes and
gifts, it being also a day when
some took resolutions as to
what would be beneficial to
them during the year.
Some were firm in their stand
while others fell by the way-
side. Some would rise and re-
new their resolutions, so with
good wishes, gifts and whatall,
we are now entered in the year
1965 and all expecting prosper-
ity, good health.
The year 1964 was a good
year for all and for that we
should be grateful.
The True Spirit
Once more, Christmas day of
the year 1964 is passed on. For
many it will be just another
day that passed away.
For •others, the day is differ-
ent, differing from others. They
in a way feel it their duty to
pay homage and respect to the
Child born in a manger in a
stable on the slopes of a rocky

hill in Bethlehem—the infant
Jesus.
Recently on a visit to Dash-
wood, yours truly was much
impressed• by the beautiful front
lawn of the home of Mr. and
Mrs. Alvin Waiper where the
Christmas trees were placed
with all the necessary decora-
tions attached to them. Where
1200 brilliant lights flickering
to attract attention to the vil-
lagers and as well to the many
motorists who travel that high-
way.
Motorists, when going to and
fro, slowed down for a better
view. The whole scene re-
mained visible to the public for
some weeks. We compliment
Mr. and Mrs. Waiper for their
forethought. We are certain
they were more than trying to
achieve honor for theirselves.
Contrary they were perhaps in-
spired by a spiritual motive
which has become an annual
affair to the Walpers.
Renewed at Services
As customary, this past
Christmas many attended the
midnight services and there
again renewal words of a Child
born in Bethlehem nearly two
thousand years ago. Even
though it being an event of
many centuries past, no one can
deny it. Of course, we can not
expect that all will be in accord
with ,this teaching and natur-
ally they would form their own
opinion.
There has always been a di-
vision of belief from the be-
ginning of time and perhaps it
will continue till the end. To
those wh•o believe not, life to
them is only another passing
day and awaiting for another
who perhaps will be more ef-
fective in giving them light.
To those many, they try to
form an idea Of their own which
has n•o order nor is it con-
vincing.
Goes On and On
To the vast number who trod
this earth they are different.
To them Christmas day is a
reality today, was yesterday and
has been since the birth of this
era nearly two thousand years
ago. It has been and will be in
the future, regardless of those
who retend the day is, a bogus
one.
It is true there has been much
examples given out which at
times caused some to drift away
and fall into some diabolical
passion.
Christmas day brings joy and
new ideas and many times heals
long standing wounds with fel-
low men. It also brings glad-
ness and from that, those who
are sincere receive contentment
of heart.
To th•eni the day is ,regarded
as a spiritual one.
