Big dean Dispute Zurich Minor Hockey Schedule
Aired in Zurich ,
PEE WEE SERIES
The annual bean growers, 1 For boys under 12 years
district 2, meeting, held this
year in Zurich, aired the prob-
lem which has arisen from an
order from the Ontario Farm
Products Marketing Board re-
questing the bean board to
sever its connection with its
London processing plant.
Bob Allan, Brucefield, charged
that pressure brought to bear
by private companies on the
OFPM board was the real rea-
son behind the order.
OFPM board member Gordon
Hill, Varna, denied that, saying
that subsidies paid to the Lon-
don plant out of the growers'
bean board fees was illegal.
Both men were speaking to
the more than 150 bean growers
from Huron and Perth counties,
the largest producers in the
five bean districts covered by
the bean board.
Also during the meeting six
committee men were named for
district 2 of the Ontario White
Bean Growers' Marketing Board,
They are Charles Rau, RR 2,
urieh; Fergus Turnbull, RR 1,
Dashwood; Robert Allan, Bruce -
field: Winston Shapton, Exeter:
Alex McBeath, Kippen, and Har-
vey Taylor, RR 3. Clinton.

Sound. leads the village to be-
lieve that they can assess and
leased by individuals along the
river, from the federal govern-
ment.
This was considered most
strange by the village since
they have for two years, at-
tempted by letter to get some
ruling from the department on
just how much land along the
river is considered federal land;
how much is village land: etc.
Mrs. Robert Keys has re-
signed from the Forest District
High School board after one
year's service, due to the long
distance involved in driving to
Forest.
Several letters were read, in-
dicating that the Forest board
is still requesting additional
money from municipalities
based on a second budget they
brought down late in the year;
the news that the town of For-
est is refusing to pay this extra
amount (Grand Bend also has
refused so far to pay the extra
levy; and word of a change in
construction plans at the school
which will change the use of
the addition into limited voca-
tional classes, but is not expect-
ed to increase the cost to the
municipalities.
The objection to co-operation
with the Forest board is based
on the thought that it is unnec-
essary for the hoard to build up
a surplus of $60,000.
Snow plowing along High-
way 21, the new four -lane
stretch, was discussed, and con-
cern shown that the sand and
salt was being pushed up on
lawns of residents along the
highway. The roads committee
head. Orval J. Wassmann, will
request that the road be not
plowed so wide, but that the
heap be left where it will event-
ually wash down the drains,
and also so that the village can
plow the sidewalk area in order
to provide walking space for
school children and other pe-
destrians.
Clerk Murray DesJardins re-
ported that he had been re-
quested by the Unemployment
Insurance auditor to pay for in-
Isurance on lifeguards hired
since 1960, in the amount of
'just over $100. The clerk re-
calls that in 1960 the auditor
at that time advised him it was
not necessary to deduct from
these people, and he has acted
on this advice.
An appeal on the grounds
that these part-time employees
were students. and also that it
is unfair to be asked to make
the change retroactive, will be
placed with the board, following
an opinion obtained from the
village solicitor.
The next meeting of the coun-
cil will be on Tuesday, . Decem-
ber 15, the day following the
elections in the village.
