Drysdale, Hen- sall, has been awarded the Viscount Richard Bedford Ben- nett scholarship of $200 for excellent work in forestry at the University of New Bruns - 'Advent' Theme At Hensall UCW The executive of Unit 4 UCW was in charge of the Christmas meeting, held Thurs- day afternoon and presided over by Mrs. James McAllister. "Ad- vent" was used as the theme of the meeting. Christmas carols, under direction of Miss Greta Lammie, were sung with Mrs. T. J. Sherritt accompanist. Mrs. Laird Mickle favored with piano selections, `Bless This House" and "How Great Thou Art". The devotional was taken by Mrs. W. H. Weekes, Mrs. Albert Alexander, Mrs. Stanley Mitchell and Mrs. W. B. Cross. Mrs. McAllister gave the .study, a Christmas story, "By Invitation of Jesus". Mrs. Otto Smale, of Glencoe, formerly of Hensall, is a pa- tient in Strathroy General Hos- pital suffering with a fractured leg caused from a fall in her home last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacMillan and David, of Kitchener, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle and Ann. Garry Moir, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Moir, had his, ton- sils removed at Clinton Public Hospital last Friday. Mrs. Chester Lee has re - one carton to the Salvation Arniy, London, and several to Toronto for overseas relief. Mrs. McAllister reported on the executive meeting held at her home recently when they decided to carry on, for another year. Mrs. McAllister expressed courtesy remarks, A social hour was enjoyed and refreshments served. Thirty-six attended the meeting. 0 Christmas Spirit Packed in Boxes Thirty-six attractive Christ- mas boxes were packed and de- livered last Wednesday to the sick and shut-in members of Hensall United Church. The friendship and visitation com- mittee of the UCW called on those confined to Huronview County Honie and hospitals. In charge of the project were Mrs. Ernie Chipchase, Mrs. Pearl Passmore, Mrs. R. The hall decorat- ed in Christmas motif put every one in the holiday mood. Noble Grand Mrs. J. F. In- gram presided for the business when donations were voted to the War Memorial Children's Hospital, London, and Chil- dren's Shelter, Goderich. At the conclusion of the meet- ing, a variety program was pre- sented including Christmas carols, reading by Miss Mattie Ellis and Mrs. Alex McBeath. Members exchange yuletide gifts and enjoyed a delicious luncheon. 0 CGIT MEETING The regular meeting of the Hensall CGIT was held Wednes- day evening in Carmel Presby- terian Church. Scripture from St. Luke's Gospel was read by Janis Arm- strong. After the business, an ac- count of Christmas in Nigeria and Bermuda and stories on those girls in Middies were read by the leader, Miss Leila Mc - Falls. Miss Barbara Schwalm was in charge of recreation. VIP Hensall Legion Elects Officers The following will form the new 1965 slate of officers for Hensall Legion, Branch 468, ap- pointed at their Christmas meet- ing Wednesday evening, Past president, Jack Simmons: president, E. J. Roberts; first vice-president, Maurice Tudor; second vice-president, E. R. Davis; sergeant -at -arms, Wilmer Dalrymple; secretary -treasurer, John Skea. Branch padre, Rev. H. F. Cur- rie, minister of Hensall United Church; executive, Garnet Al- lan, Fred Beer, Jim Taylor, Sam Rennie. Joint installation of the Le- gion and Ladies' Auxiliary will be held in the near future, —0 Christmas Party For 3 UCW Units Units 1, 2 and 3 of UCW, un- der direction of Mrs. Robert Raeburn, Mrs. Edison Forrest and Mrs. Ron Mock, met separ- ately in the church Sunday school rooms Monday evening to complete the business of the year. Following the business period the units 'combined for a Christ- mas program and social hour. Mrs. Forrest chaired the meeting opening with a Christ- mas verse. Scripture passages were read by Mrs. Reaburn, and the devotional was taken by Mrs. Mock. . Dave Brrock's group was in charge of the pro- gram. Eric Ross, John Goddard, Pat Harris and Dave Brock took part in the 'devotion. A Christmas service will be held in the auditorium of Hen - sail United Church at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 20, when the public is invited to hear the message of Christmas. A film, "The Champs of Sport", was shown. Eric Ross and Dave Brock led in a dis- cussion about semi -classical, popular and spiritual music, Ted Mock and Joan Simmons directed three games, lunch was served and Rev.
