PETER PLANTINGA, Prop. DALTON FINKBEINER, Clerk ALVIN WALPER, Auctioneer VILLAGE OF ZURICH REMEMBRANCE DAY NOTICE IS HEREBY GiVEN THAT WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 11 HAS BEEN DECLARED A PUBLIC HOLIDAY. COUNCIL OF THE VILLAGE OF ZURICH Elda Wagner, Clerk -Treasurer. was in the London Free Press which pictured the village as a ghost town in the winter, one in the Toronto Star Weekend Supplement which pictured the village as a place of drinking and loose morals and the vari- ous inaccurate reports hi the press and on radio following the reading of the Riot Act on La- bor Day week -end. He asked if the Chamber of Commerce had considered appointing a public relations committee. Miss Wilma D. Dinnin, secre- tary of the Chamber of Com- merce, said that on all three occasions she had tried to in- fluence the reporters assigned to those various projects to see the other side of Grand Bend. She said it was like talking to a brick wall to get any of this across to reporters who are there for a story. She com- mended the Free Press reporter for the treatment of the Labor Day trouble but noted that the Canadian Press reports had been inaccurate, John Guildemond, Southcott Pines, and landscape gardener from London, showed council sample fountains for use in their Centennial project. He will give a lighted demonstra- tion this corning Saturday at dusk. D'ARCY RATHWELL & SONS, Owner and Manager Harold Jackson, Auctioneer William Allison, Southcott Pines, indicated some interest in a village water supply by homeowners in that sub -divis- ion He asked that they be in- vited to any meetings pertain- ing to this subject. Council received word from, the Chamber of Commerce that a majority vote in that body favored the name "81 Crescent" for the street that passes the local post office. Council ac- cepted the suggestion. Council also concurred with the Chamber's decision for the village to go on Daylight Sav- ing Time in 1965. Assessment totalling $1,646,- 898, as returned by assessor Murray A. Desjardin, was ac- cepted. The rate is up some $45,000 since last year. Council is searching for a new site for the village dump. The move has been requested by the department of lands and forests which find that smoke and odours from the dump do not improve the Pinery Provin- cial Park. 0 DASHWOOD Mr. and Mrs. Howard Klumpp report excellent weather on their recent trip to France, Bel- gium and England.
