UCW Executive The executive of UCW met at the home of the president, Mrs. Walter Spencer, Friday evening when plans were made for the coming bazaar November 28. Discussion concerning the gen- eral Christmas meeting on De- cember 14 was heard. Plans for 1965 were outlined and dis- cussed. A bale for overseas Anglican Ladies Hold Order Bazaar The ladies of St. Paul's Angli- can Church, Hensall, held an "Order Bazaar" on Saturday. The ladies have been busy mak- ing samples of their work, the samples which were on display in the window of Henderson's Egg Grading Station, were moved Saturday morning to the church basement where orders for Christmas gifts were taken. Tea was served and a baked goods table. The ladies will get to work again making the necessary quantities of their wares to fill the orders they receive. Charles Miekle attended the Murray -Hill wedding Saturday last, in the Anglican Church, Meaf ord, Laymen's service was observ- ed at the United Church Sun- day morning at 11 a.m., with the service in charge of the men of the congregation. Guest speaker was Orval Harrison, of Monkton. Special music was provided by the men's congre- gational choir. The ladies of Unit 2 of the United Church Women and Mrs. Carmel WMS Host Area Women The senior Women's Mission- ary Society of Carmel Presby- terian Church held their fall thank -offering service on Tues- day, October 6. Guests were present from the Kippen UCW, Arnold Circle and Home Help- ers. Mrs. Earl Campbell and Miss Hannah Murray conducted the devotions entitled "Thoughts on Thanksgiving". An inspiration- al message was brought by the guest speaker, Mrs. T. L. Scott, Cromarty. Mrs. Pearl Love and Mrs. Malcolm Dougall sang a duet, accompanied by Mrs. E. Munn. A social hour brought the eve- ning to a close. 0 Thanksgiving the Theme for UCW The Chiselhurst UCW met at the church Tuesday afternoon with 16 members present. Presi- dent Mrs. Harold Parker was in the chair. The worship period on thanksgiving was presented by the president, assisted by Mrs. T. Brintnell. Mrs. Harold Currie gave the Bible study, "God and His Purpose", and also gave highlights from the School of Leaders held at Alma College. Mrs. C. Coleman read three poems. During the business, final plans were made for the bazaar on November 5. The ladies de- cided to buy two rubber floor mats for the church. Two five -pound bundles of quilt patches were donated by Mrs. W. Brintnell and Mrs. Ed Dick for the supply work. The meeting closed with a hymn and benediction. Lunch was served by Mrs. R. October 15, Esmond baby blanket, Mrs. Nancy Kyle, Hensall; October 16, a girl's dress or boy's suit, Mrs. Betty Hensall Ladies See Slides of Holland George Vriese, of Exeter, was guest speaker at the UCW Oc- tober general meeting Tuesday evening. He showed beautiful colored slides •on Holland, his native country, showing several slides of the lovely tulip beds of Holland and of his home, and other pictures of interest, President Mrs. Walter Spen- cer opened the meeting with a prayer and a word of welcome. The program was in charge of Unit 4 with leader Mrs. James McAllister in charge, Mrs. E. Rowe gave the devotion- al. Mrs. Carl Payne favored with a vocal solo, accompanied by Mrs. T. Sherritt; Miss Ann Mickle a piano selection, and Mrs. Pearl Passmore and Miss Mary Goodwin a vocal duet, Mrs. William Fuss accompanist, Mrs. R. M. Peck gave courtesy remarks. The president, Mrs. Spencer, presided for the business when reports were read by the vari- ous convenors, and mention was made of the Snowflake Ba- zaar Saturday, November 28. UCW regional meeting Centra- lia United Church Friday, Oc- tober 23, a.m. and p.m., with members urged to attend this meeting. Plans were made to pack a bale for overseas relief Novem- ber 17. Unit 4 served angel food top- ped with ice cream. Northcott, Exeter; October 17, a girl's or boy's ski jacket, Mrs. Joe Regier, Zurich. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Smalc and daughter Darlene have taken up residence in Glencoe. Otto has secured a position in Strath roy. 0 Hensall Couple Married 45 Years A family dinner at the Duf- ferin Hotel, Centralia, Thurs- day, marked the 45th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Campbell. Mr. Campbell is the clerk of the village of Hensall. At the conclusion of the din- ner, the party returned to the home of the guests of honor in Hensall where a social evening was enjoyed. Attending t h e celebration were Mrs, Alice Campbell, Ex- eter, mother of Mr. Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Cam A- bell, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Camp- bell, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd 'Camp- bell, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Cronyn, Mr. and Mrs, Honer Campbell, Mr. and Mrs. Perce Campbell, Mr, and Mrs. Alvin Campbell and Mr. and Mrs. George Armstrong. Mr. and Mrs. Campbell have 44 grandchildren. ' LOST RINGS RECOVERED A happy Hensall housewife has a new hero these days. The woman discovered to her dismay that 'three valuable dia- mond rings were missing from her finger. A search of the house from top to bottom and a 'complete check of the vacuum cleaner failed to turn up the lost rings. After much thought, the worried lady remembered she had washed a pair of nylons and reasoned the rings could have slipped from her hand during this time. Her hero? A pleased plumb- er who discovered the diamonds caught in the trap below the sink. 0 Mrs. F. Gunning Mrs. Francis A. Gunning, 81, of Exeter, passed away in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, Sat- urday, October 17, The former Florence Hillary Brown, she is survived by her husband and one son, William Robbins, To- ronto; daughters, (Hilda) Mrs, Harold Taylor, Exeter; {Elsie) Mrs. Roylance Westcott, Exeter; (Dorothy) Mrs. W. J. F. Bell, Kippen; (Mildred) Mrs. Harold Foster, Hensall; two sisters, Mrs. J. Struthers, Exeter; Mrs. James Howard, England. Over 100 members and guests, with special guests of the EUB and Lutheran churches of Zurich; Caven Presbyterian and the Baptist churches, Exe- ter, and the WMS of the church. Guest speaker, Rev. Silas Mc - Falls, Exeter, gave a most in- formative and inspiring mes- sage, basing his thoughts on the Book of Genesis, and he chal- lenged all to a better way of living. He was introduced by Miss Hannah Murray, and thanked by Mrs. Gerald Bell, President Mrs, Gordon Schwalm presided and opened with a call to worship. Mrs, Harry' Snell, Mrs. Al Hoggarth and Mrs, Robert Bell were in charge of the worship, with `Thanksgiving" as the theme. Mrs. Newell Geiger, of Zur- ich, contributed a reading, "The Master's Mind". Vocal duets were sung by Marlene Rader and Ruth Ann Fleischauer. The reception committee was Mrs. Schwalm and Mrs. J, E. McEwen, and Mrs. Beverly Bea- ton, Mrs. A.
