Unit 4 UCW
Unit 4 of UCW will bold their
October meeting on Thursday,
October 1, at 2:30 p.m. under
the leadership of Mrs, James
McAllister. Mrs. T. J. Sherritt
and Mrs. W. B. Cross are in
charge of the program. Mem-
bers are urged to be present
at this meeting.
Institute Wins
Hensall WI was awarded first
prize for Institute exhibits at
Exeter Fair. Exhibit consisted
•of five articles, an oil painting,
cotton shift dress, men's socks,
one dozen Chelsea buns on
plate, and a living room bou-
quet. Seven Institutes from
South Huron entered the com-
petition.
Correction
•The annual Snowflake Bazaar
of the UCW will be held Satur-
day, November 28, not October
28, as previously reported.
Charles Mickle, of Hamilton,
and Robert Mickle, of Syden-
ham Hall, UWO, London, spent
the week -end with their par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Laird Mickle,
and Ann.
Mr. and Mrs. Sim Roobol are
holidaying this week in Brant -
,ford, Ridgetown and Seaforth.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross MacMillan
and David, Kitchener, spent
Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Laird
Mickle.
Mr. and Mrs. Emmerson Mit-
chell and family, of Walton,
were guests Sunday with Mr.
and Mrs. Fred Beer.
Don't forget the cooking
school in the Hensall Arena on
Wednesday, October 7. !Lucky
door prizes 'donated by mer-
chants in Hensall, Dickert's, of
Kippen, and Tuckey Beverages,
of Exeter, will be drawn for.

Mrs. M. Walker
Mrs. Mabel Olive Walker, 78,
of Wingham, passed away Mon-
day, September 28, 1941, at
Wingham and District Hospital.
She was the former Mabel Chap-
man, and widow of Alva James
Walker. Surviving are four
daughters, Mrs. Norman (Betty)
Muffitt, Downsview; Mrs. Bruce
(Dell) Fox, Guelph; Mrs. George
(Verna) Galbraith, Wingham;
P1rs. John (Joyce) Heal, Hensall,
and four brothers.
Funeral service was held on
Wednesday from the S. J. Walk-
er funeral home, Wingham.

ciety of Carmel Presbyterian
Church will hold their Thanks-
giving meeting Tuesday, Octo-
ber 6, at 8:1S p.m., when Mrs.
Scott, of Cromarty, will be guest
speaker.

Leader of COON
The Arnold Circle of Carmel
Presbyterian Church resumed
meetings Monday evening, with
president Mrs. Gordon Schwalm
chairing the meeting. Mrs. R.
A. Orr and Mrs, Trevor Wilson
led the devotional period using
the theme "Obey".
Mrs, Robert Bell reported for
the Huron Presbyterial held in
Clinton. A motion was passed
by Mrs. Harry Snell that cards
be sent to the sick and bereaved
of the congregation.
Miss McFalls was appointed
leader of the CGIT group of the
church. Mrs. Beverly Beaton
expressed appreciation to the
new Sunday School teachers,
Mrs. Schwalm, Mrs. John Skea
and Rev. S. McFalls.
The group will be responsible
for flowers for the church for
October. Convenors for Thanks-
giving Sunday are Mrs. Skea,
Mrs. J. E. McEwen and Mrs.
Orr.
Plans were outlined for the
thank -offering October 19.

Mrs. Clarence Reid was host-
ess for a miscellaneous shower
at her home Tuesday evening,
in honor of Miss Thelma Cowan,
of London, bride -elect of Octo-
ber, with 20 relatives attending
f r o m Teeswater, Kincardine,
Tiverton, L o n d o n, Bayfield,
Clinton, Exeter and Hensall.
Pink and white gladioli form-
ed a floral background for the
house decorations.
Presentation address to the
guest of honor was read by Mrs.
Bob Talbot, of Bayfield, and
gifts presented by Linda Reid,
of Hensall, and Connie Talbot,
speaker. Special guests will be
Caven Presbyterian Church, Ex-
eter, Zurich Lutheran and Zur-
ich Evangelical churches.
The benediction was pro-
nounced by Mrs. J. E. McEwen.
A pot -luck supper was served
with Mrs. Al Hoggart and Mrs.
Skea in charge.
Bayfield. Mrs. Garry Mair and
Mrs. George Jackson, London,
assisted in unwrapping the gifts.
Miss Diane Reid conducted
contests. Luncheon was served.

Henson UCW Meet
Mrs. Ron Mock chaired the
meeting for Unit 3 of 1.CW
Monday evening with 18 attend-
ing. Mrs. A. Munn led the de-
votional assisted by Mrs. Wil-
liam Mickle, who led in the
Scripture passages of Psalm 42
and 43. with prayer offered by
Mrs. Ross Corbett. The study,
"The Way in Trinidad", relat-
ing to geography -history and
some of the problems in Trini-
dad, was presented by Mrs. Jack
Drysdale.
Guest Mrs. Dave Kyle con-
tributed several readings.
Announcement included the
general meeting Tuesday, Octo-
ber 13; Snowflake Bazaar No-
vember 28; regional meeting at
Centralia October 23, and Kip -
pen East WI cooking school on
October 7.
Couple Feted on
25th Anniversary
Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Jaques
were pleasantly surprised Sat-
urday evening, September 26,
when their family arranged a
family dinner at the Dufferin
Hotel, Centralia, in honor of
their 25th wedding anniversary.
They were presented with a
chrome kitchen set following
the turkey banquet.
Later the celebrants and 100
relatives and friends gathered
at the Crediton Township Hall
for a social evening and dance,
with music provided by Nelson!

Cromarty. A presentation of a
platform rocker was made to
them by the parents and broth-
ers and sisters on both sides.
