It will be some time before the farm- ers will be able to determine the damage to their bean crop. From the cool evenings rust might be the next thing to slow the average crop expected. Brother Andre (Continued from last week) When N. M. Cantin had his date fixed for the arrival of l3rother Andre in St. Joseph, he had written to his son Napoleon and his wife Valerie concerning the food to be served to the Brother. There were not to be fancy cuts of meats with all the trimmings attached to a tasty meal. Also the desert, if served at any time, was not to be de- licious, for the Brother was not used to such tasty and nourish- ing food; not that he was de- prived of it for any reason in his order as a religious Brother, but his entire life had been and was One of penance and morti- fication—and from that he en- joyed life. The food he took daily was bread, many times dry, or he would soak it in the beverage that was before him. There were other rules that the saintly Brother followed, so that in his way he was enjoying the life which was intended for him. It was hard for the Napoleon Cantin family to serve such a distinguished guest. While he was at the Cantin home he was always at the disposal of all, accepting short strolls on the St. Joseph ground, especially where he had driven a peg. Brother Andre was amiable to meet and converse with. Of course people who visited him were always concerning some of their ailments, and he was always ready to respond to their requests. He did not hesitate to tell them what to do, and always told them to be full re- signed to and bare well their ailments and what was sent to them, for in his word they were remembered by God. During his stay in St. Joseph he had many callers, and all received, if not a cure for their ailments, at least courage which was to all very rewarding. His first visit to St. Joseph, along the borders of Lake Hur- on, took place in the month of October in the year of 1914. For the parishioners and others in the surroundings it was one that all try remembering. Even to this riay the older citizens talk about it. Brother Andre came back to this parish five years later. That, too, was in the month of October in the year 1922. During that visit he was a guest of the parish priest, Father Bondot, for, if I remem- ber, five days. The object of his visit was not known.
