For pick-ups call 158-M Hensall. David and Janice Moore, of Woodstock, visited their grand- mother, Mrs. Harry Caldwell, and their aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Vern Alderdice, while their parents, Mr, and Mrs. John Moore, enjoyed a four-day vacation in New York City and were guests of the Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. They re- turned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Vieu, of London, have taken up resi- dence in the Fink Apartments on Nelson Street. Both are em - Obituary Clair Deneau Residents of Hensall and com- munity were shocked to learn of the sudden passing of Clair F. Deneau, well-known Hensall barber, who died suddenly in Exeter on Sunday May 17, with a heart seizure. He was in his 43rd year. During his two years in business in Hensall Mr. Den - eau made many friends. He was a wonderfully kind neigh- bour and his passing will be mourned by a host of relatives and friends. He was a member of Hensall United Church. Survivors are: a dear friend, Erma L. Lowery, Hensall; one son, Reg, Windsor; one daugh- ter, Mrs. Sharon Keys, Mitchell; two brothers, Jim, Wingham; Harvey, Amherstburg; one sis- ter, Mrs. Doris Baguette, Wat- ford; half-brothers and sister: Ken Rose, Amherstburg; Gor- don and Lorne Rose, Windsor; Mark Deneau, Leamington; Mrs. Isabel Ridsdale, Amherstburg. The late Mr. Deneau rested at the Bonthron funeral home, Hensall, until Tuesday morning, May 19, the funeral service tak- ing place from the James H. Sutton funeral home, Amherst - burg, on Wednesday, May 20, at 11 a.m. E.S.T. Interment in ,mherstburg cemetery. played at the New Commercial Hotel, Hensall. Complete Courses Sharon Jean and Margaret Az,n, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smillie, Hensall, have both completed training in courses this year. Sharon re- ceived the Clarinda Bailey Memorial trophy for post grad- uate study at UWO during the graduation exercises of the St. Joseph's Hospital School of Nursing held in London. Mar- garet has successfully passed the fourth year at Macdonald Institute, Guelph, with first- class honors and will graduate with the degree of Bachelor of Household Science at convoca- tion on May 22 at the Federated Colleges. She will attend OCE next year. Following the grad- uation exercises of St. Joseph's School of Nursing held at Thames Hall, UWO, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Smillie enter- tained at their home in honor of Margaret and Sharon, both graduates of this month. Miss Elizabeth Anne Goddard, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. C. Goddard, is among the the list of those graduated at Macdon- ald Institute, Guelph, with sec- ond class honors. Miss Phyllis Case, who has been on the staff of Hender- son's Produce Ltd. for the past 15 years, has resigned her posi- tion. Prior to her leaving Sat- urday last, a group of friends met and presented her with a gift. Farewell Party The Explorers of Carmel Presbyterian Church met at the leader's home, Mrs. W. Hopkins, who is moving to Greenwood, N.S. Her husband, stationed at RCAF Station Centralia, was posted there this week. Presi- dent Marjorie Schwalm and secretary Dorothy Skea present- ed a gift of a cup and saucer to Mrs. Hopkins and a toy game to their son, Stewart. Mrs. Hop- kins expressed thanks and served them a delicious dinner. Mr. and Mrs. John Long, of Owen Sound, were week -end guests with Mr. and Mrs. Norm- an Long, of Kippen, Young People At the Hensall - Chiselhurst Young People's meeting held Sunday evening, president Ted Mock, who presided, showed in- teresting slides she had taken while on his recent trip to New York. For the devotional period Miss Nancy Kyle read Scripture passages, and Miss Ann Mickle offered prayer. Miss Mickle also presided at the piano for the hymns. Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Talbot and Brian have taken up resi- dence east of Hensall. Mr. and Mrs. Lennis Siemon, Kitchener; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Elliott and Bonnie, Toronto, were week -end guests with Mr. and Mrs. Robert McGregor, Kippen. Church Parade Members of the IOOF and Amber Rebekah Lodges, in a very impressive parade of over 60 members, marched in a body and attended divine service at Carmel Presbyterian Church Sunday morning last, and were addressed by Rev. Stewart, of Seaforth, speaking on the Three Links, "Friendship, Love and Truth". The choir rendered an anthem. Mrs. Malcolm Dougall presided at the organ consol. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Lewis, of Sarnia, were week -end guests with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Spencer, and also attended the Jamieson - Goddard wedding as guests on Saturday. Miss Barbara Schwalm was a week -end guests with Miss Shar- on Baechler, of Zurich. Miss Janice Armstrong visited over the week -end holiday with Miss Marjorie Schwalm. Grandmothers Institute Guests Grandmothers were special guests at the Historical Reseach May meeting of Hensall Wom- en's .Institute, held Wednesday evening, attended by close to 70, including members and guests who were welcomed by president Mrs. Beverly Beaton. The Legion Hall was lovely with profusions of tulips and Ja- ponica. Mrs. R. M. Peck read a letter from the Institute's former adopted girl in Austria. An in- vitation to hold the June picnic at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Reid was accepted. Mrs. Carl Payne presented a very interesting and informa- tive report of the District Con- ference at Guelph, which she attended. Guest speakers, introduced by Mrs. Elgie, speaking on the his- tory of their native country, in- cluded Mrs. John Skea for Scot- land; Mrs. Susan Devlaeminek, (Belgium); Mrs. E. -Visscher, (Holland), and Mrs. Henry Stasik, speaking on Poland and the concentration camp. Each were presented gifts by Mrs. Elgie. Mrs. Pearl Koehler, Mrs. Walker Cathie, Mrs. Edna Cald- well and Mrs. J. McLellan fav- oured with old-time dance num- bers in costume, "Heel and Toe Polka", "Seven Step", "Flori- dora" and the "Waltz Country"; Mrs. Ross Broadfoot accompan- ied at the piano. Prizes for eldest grandmoth- er went to Mrs. Alice Joynt, Hensall; youngest, Mrs. George Boa, RR 1, Hensall; grandmoth- er coming the farthest distance, Mrs. S. E. Kidd, Desboro.
