News of HENSALL District
Rodger Venner returned
home Sunday from a ,fishing ex-
pedition at Dorset, in the Mus-
koka area. He caught a spec-
kled trout 18 inches long, and
reported fishing poor owing to
rough weather,

Judy Webb, Dashwood; Mrs.

Michael and Deborah, Hensall;

Sunday guests with Mr. and
Mrs. Wes Venner.
UCW Unit 1
Unit 1 of UCW, under lead-
ership of Mrs. Robert Reaburn,
met Monday evening with the
devotional taken by Mrs. Vern
Alderdice, assisted by Mrs.
Wayne Smith. Mrs. Reaburn
reminded the members of 'the
Hensall Kinette annual spring
rummage sale, Saturday, May
23; "Open House" at Westmin-
ster College May 20, and made
plans for the wedding recep-
tion. A work bee was held at
conclusion of the m e e t i n g.
Lunch was served by Mrs, E.
Whitehouse and Mrs. James
Drummond.
Mr. and Mrs. E. Chipchase
attended a banquet at Maple
Leaf Gardens, Toronto, Monday
evening, in honor of the Marl-
boros who won the Memorial
Cup. Their son Jack played
defense with the Marlboros, and
his parents received many com-
pliments on the fine playing of
their son.

The May meeting of Kippen
East W.T. will be held at the
home of Mrs. Vern Alderdice
Wednesday, May 20, at 8:30
p.m. Roll call, "When did you
plant your garden". Paper on
the origin of Mother's Day will
be given by Mrs. Wilmer Broad -
foot; demonstration, Mrs. Harry
Caldwell; poem, Mrs, Wilmer
Broadfoot; current events, Mrs.
Charles Eyre; contest, Mrs. E.

Carmel WMS
President Mrs. Earl Campbell
presided for the May meeting
of the Senior WMS of Carmel
Presbyterian Church Monday
evening. Mrs. Glenn Bell and
Mrs. Archie Hoggarth were in
charge of the program. They
were assisted in a skit by Mrs.
Len Purdy and Mrs. Alex Mac-
Gregor, portraying Bhi1 Chris-
tians in India and telling of
some of the educational work
of church missions in India.
Mrs. Malcolm Dougall and Mrs.
Ed Munn favoured with a piano
duet. Miss Hannah Murray gave
a report on the Synodical meet-
ing held in London recently. A
L i f e Membership Certificate
was presented to Mrs. Eleanor
MacKenzie.
Mr. and Mrs. Gordon White-
man and Beverley, Mr. and Mrs,
Rene LaPorte and Coreena, will
be attending a three-day assem-
bly of Jehovah's Witnesses in
London, Friday, Saturday and
Sunday of this week.
Mrs. John Rigby, Mr. and Mrs.
Don Rigby, Mr. and Mrs. Bill
Knights, Stewart and Jane of
Blenheim, spent the week -end
with Mr. and Mrs. Stewart Mc-
Queen, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Snell.
Mr. and Mrs. John Peebles
and family, of Atwood, spent
the week -end with the latter's
parents, Mr, and Mrs. George
Moir, and family.
Mr. and Mrs. John Rathwell,
Rob and Ted, of Lindsay, spent
the week -end with Mrs. Fred
Rathwell.

Mrs. Harry Snell were Mrs. Jean
Manson, Mr. and Mrs. Hilt Laing

Mr. and Mrs, Harold Shep-

spent the week -end at his home

Mother's Day order bake sale
held Saturday, May 9, sponsored
by Unit 4 of the United Church
Women in Hensall. Mrs. Ron
Mock and Mrs. Jack Drysdale
were in charge of the project.
Harold and Ken Elder, broth-
ers of RR 2, Hensall, have each
purchased single engine aero-
planes.
Mr, and Mrs. W. E. Hedden,
Niagara Falls, were week -end
visitors with Mr. Herb Hedden.
Mr. George Smale is a patient
in South Huron Hospital, Ex-
eter.
Mrs. Lou Simpson is a patient
in Clinton Public Hospital.
Mrs. Earl Titterington, of
RCAF Centralia, formerly of
Hensall, was admitted Sunday
as a patient at Westminster
Hospital, London, for t w o
weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Clendon Christie
and Catherine Anne, Mr. and
Mrs. Albert Alexander visited
one evening last week with Rev.
and Mrs. Currie Winlaw and
family, Stratford.
Sunday evening dinner guests
with Mr. and Mrs. Sim FRoobol
were Mrs. Lorne Webster, Mr.
and Mrs. W. T Dodds, Mr. and
Mrs. D. M. Dodds, all of Sea -
forth.
Mrs. William Bell and Mrs.
Carl Payne attended the officers
conference for district directors
of the Women's Institute, at the
O.A.C., Guelph, last week. The
group were welcomed as the
first delegates to attend the
newly formed university.
Mr. Milton Russell is a pa-
tient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London, suffering a fractured
hip which he sustained in an
accident in a fall at his home
on Friday, May 8.
Compete in Festival
Five pupils of Miss Greta
Lammie competed at the Mit-
chell Music Festival Friday
morning, May, 8. Grade 4, piano
solo. Joyce Ferguson placed
third with 85 marks; grade 7,
piano solo, Kenneth Jones, 82
marks; grade 8, piano solo,
Joyce Flynn placed third with
85 marks, Jim Traquair 83
marks; grade 9, piano solo, Miss
Ann Mickle placed second with
86 marks.
Amber Rebekashs
Amber Rebekah Lodge met
for their regular meeting Wed-
nesday evening, with Noble
Grand Mrs. Clarence Volland
presiding. A donation was
granted to the Oddfellows'
Home at Barrie. Monkton and.
Brussels Lodges are invited to
attend the June 3 meeting of
this lodge.
Mrs. William Clemens
Word has been received in
Hensall of the death of Mrs.
William Clemens, the former
Muriel Hoskins, a native of Hen-
sall, who passed away in St.
Catharines on Thursday, May 7,
in her 47th year. Surviving are
her husband, three sons, one
daughter, five sisters including
Mrs. Vernon Hedden, St. Cath-
arines. Funeral service was
held Saturday in St. Catharines.
Square Dancers
Complete Season.
The Hensall area Children's
Square Dance Club had their
final dance for the season at the
Hensall Arena Friday evening.
Parents and families of the
dancers were entertained dur-
ing the evening by the children.
Besides the Do Sa Do Your
Corner, See Saw Your Taw
dances, a short program was
put on by the dancers. Lynda
Haugh on the accordion Lynda
and Joyce Ferguson, piano duet;
Lynda and Barbara Dougall
singing duet, accompanied on
the piano by Mrs. A. Dougall;
Robine Lambie, piano solo; Ken
and Grant Jones, the singing,
swinging beatles, with Lynda
Hay, Donna Forrest, Peter Wil-
liams and Doug Mock as the
beatles.
Lunch was served, during
which Dot and Bob Lambie were
presented with gifts 'in appre-
ciation for the season's fun of
square dancing. After lunch,
Ken and Grant Jones on the
guitars led the ground in a sing-
song.

Ladies' Auxiliary
Arrange Sale
President Mrs. Roy Srnale
chaired the May meeting •of the
Legion Ladies' Auxiliary held
Tuesday evening in the Legion
Hall, when plans were made and
committees formed for a ban-
quet Friday evening, May 29.
The banquet will be a Commem-
oration dinner for Hens an
Branch 468 of the Royal Cana-
dian Legion, who are sponsor-
ing a "reunion" of it's members
who were veterans of the 1914-
18 conflict.
Plans were discussed for the
annual Penny Sale with lovely
prizes donated by local and dis-
trict business, which are on dis-
play in 'the Legion Hall. Draw
is on Saturday, May 80.
A donation of $25 was given
to the Hensall Cubs and Scouts.

Davis with her past secretary's
badge,
Mystery prize was won by
Mrs. Maude Redden; guessing
prize, Mrs. Robert McKenzie;
attendance prize of $8.00 was
won by Mrs. E. R. Davis.
