Lovely May
Once more we have entered
in the beautiful month of May,
the month which starts the
growth of all seeds. the month
known as the month of flowers,
the trees with their different
coloured blossoms pouring out
its fragrance and all to purify
the air which was filtered by
the different changes of weath-
er during the spring season or

perhaps the different germs
which sometimes float in the
air. The beautiful month is also
agreeable to those who are sick
or bed -ridden, inhaling the
scent of all flowers, blossoms
and growth of shrubs, which is
always beautiful to those who
or not enjoying their good
health. The month of May as
a spring month is probably one
of the purest and most thought
of by all citizens of our land,
Visits of Brother Andre
Recently someone asked me
to comment on the two visits
of Brother Andre in this par-
ish, and where he had resided
while here and what was the
object of his visits, etc. Well,
there must be a starting point
to this but I am not too cer-
tain that all of it will be accur-
ate for much of it I have learned
from others who had known
him many years before his
visits in this parish.
To start with Brother Andre
was born on August 10, 1845,
at St. Gregroire, Quebec. His
parents being Issiae Bessette
and his legitimate wife, Clo-
thilde Foisy. They were mar-
ried on September 27, 1831, at
Saint Mathers. Alfred (Brother
Andre) was born the sixth child
of a family of twelve, was very
delicate at birth and it was con-
sidered advisable by the parish

the earliest moment. His spon-
sors were an uncle and his wife,
Josephite, and he was given the
name Alfred, but in his earthly
career was known as Brother
Andre,
In those days the raising and
caring of a large fancily meant
much hard work, for work was
scarce in their native parish, so
the family had decided to move
to another district where there
was bush work, and all was go-
ing well with the Bessette fam-
ily till one day when the father
was at his daily work, and,
while failing a tree, was acci-
dentally killed leaving the fam-
ily in bitter straights.
For a time she kept the chil-
dren together till she felt no
more able to, then the children
were picked up by relatives,
Alfred and the mother went to
live with her sister, Mrs. Limo -
thee Nadeau, at a not -far village
at St. Cesaire. A short time
after the death of her husband,
five or perhaps six years, she
too was stricken by death on
