Letter to the Editor
Dear Sir:
Would like to have some
space in your valuable little
paper, and thanks for giving
us the county eouneil news,
which not all weekly news-
papers seem to bother with, and
which was quite interesting last
week.
Now, having read that article
on public school controversy
last week, I read an article quite
some time ago, somewhat simi-
lar to that one, also from the
Family Herald, and this did
happen not so very far north
from here, in a township of 13
schools, and was written by
some one named A.V.H., Ont.
And I quote: "It is time the
people of rural Ontario began
to look up and take notice of
what is happening to the little
red school house, the Depart-
ment of Education for Ontario
seems to me, is bent on pushing
the rural people of Ontario into
centralization of schools, wheth-
er the people want it or not.
In our township we have been
hounded for the last 12 years,
and six years ago our school
board gave in and agreed to a
central school system. When
the ratepayers heard about it
they immediately got up a pe-
tition and stopped it. Then the
medical health officer went to
work on tie school hoards. He

ceiving treatment at the hos-

Gerald Gingerich, who has
been supervising the electrical
division of the Hess Electric
business for some years, has
taken over that end of the busi-
ness on his own.
Rev. and Mrs. Albert Martin,
who have been living in Kit-
chener where the former has
been studying.; have now moved
to Zurich.
The ratepayers in Grand Bend
voted Monday to take over the
operation of their own Ihyclro
system, and to borrow up to
$85,000 to finance the project.
Only eight people voted against
the proposal.
Trp. Robert Forrester and
Robert Fisher, who have been
both stationed at Petawawa
Army Camp, have been trans-
ferred to Camp Borden. They
spent the past week -end in Zur-
ich with their parents.

condemned this school and that
one. Well, the school board
did everything they were asked
to do, drilled wells, installed
automatic furnaces, flush toilets
and still these officials are not
satisfied. After spending all
this money on 13 schools, they
want us to scrap them. They
tt°ill even go so far as to offer
us money- to close these schools,
There are places perhaps where
central schools are practical but
not here in Western Ontario
where we are. What we need
more than anything is a better
grade of teachers. The Ontario
government says they have to
raise taxes again. Well, if they
would stop spending money on
central schools, perhaps they
could lower taxes." This ends
that article.
But last week we got some
other news. From a convention
at British Columbia someone
brought in a motion to out -law
all morning devotions in all the
schools in British Columbia.
Well, it seems they have their
slhool troubles there, too. Now
someone could say nothing like
that could come here, but that
has already happened at Toron-
to, but we don't believe it will
become law in Canada for some
time yet. But let us not forget
that those people will come
back again to try it again, the
old slogan is "if you don't suc-
ceed try and try again".
You know I ani not a Cath-
olic, but I am sure they will not
try it on the Catholic school,
because I think they are well
prepared for it .around this part
of Ontario. But not so the
Protestants. Well, there are a
few in Ontario that are private
schools, which can't be stopped
from their morning devotions,
Of course, we all know that it
is out-lawed in the U.S.A., and
there are people who say that
those who want to have morning
devotions out-lawed are very re-
ligious people, and they sure
are, but we must never forget
that those people that had the
Lord crucified some 1000 yearn
ago, also were the most sincere
and religious people the world
has ever known.
But you say they are all dead,
yes, but that spirit is still with
us and they still brand that
Lord that gave us that beauti-
ful Lord's prayer as an im-
postor,
Now we are also made to
wonder how many people have
ever thought what might have
happened if that law that they
tried to pass at Toronto a few

weeks ago might have changed
conditions in Ontario. No, I
don't think the average person
even considered it, and already
