Canadian social worker Doris Clark invites you to write
her about your problem. She answers letters of general
interest in this column but can't undertake personal replies.
DEAR DORIS — I have four
children, the last two born
hardly a year apart, and am
expecting a fifth in about six
weeks. I simply cannot stand
the strain physically or mentally
of ever being pregnant again.
Five children are all we can
cope with. My nerves are so
ragged when I am expecting.
My feet swell and I have vari-
cose veins.
Could you offer any advice?
Abstinence seems the only an-
swer but it is harder on the
husband; and the wife feels
guilty in refusing. which is hard
when she loves him and he is
so thoughtful and good in all
ways.
LOVES BABIES, BUT!
DEAR LOVES BABIES — I
don't blame you for wanting to
call a halt. But abstinence?
Oh, no, This would create its
own kinds of jangled nerves
and frustrations. The physical
side of marriage needs cherish-
ing.
Send in ten cents and stamp-
ed, self-addressed envelope for
a list of books containing help-
ful ideas on the subject.
DEAR DORIS—I'm planning
an "At Home" for my parents
to celebrate their golden wed-
ding, Announcement in the
newspaper will specify hours to
call in afternoon and evening,
1. As I am the only child, who
answers the door?
With your wide social under
standing of human nature, could
you please fabricate in print
that the bride of 50 years stays
out of the kitchen on that date?
You know mothers!
DAUGHTER
DEAR DAUGHTER — 1. A
close friend, preferably one who
knows at least some of your
parents' friends.
2. It's no fabrication. On this
occasion, the guests of honor
are King and Queen for a Day
They are seated, and callers
are brought to them. The kit -

Problem of Chronic Illness
Goderich — Concrete sugges-
tions for dealing with the press-
ing problem of chronic patients
are hoped for when a meeting
at Huronview on April 15 brings
together representatives of the
various hospital boards, the
""Medical Association of the coun-
ty and the Ontario Hospital
Services Commission.
"We are still deeply con-
cerned with the ever-increasing
demand for admittance to Hur-
onview," Deputy Reeve James
Hayter, of Stephen, said in the
board of management report.
"We have renovated the ground
floor area and this is now being
put into use; however, the de-
mand continues.
"We did advertise for homes
which might consider taking in
senior citizens on the same
basis as being residents of Hur-
onview, There was a good re-
sponse, and these applications
will be reviewed by the pro-
vincial authorities before any
further action is taken.
"In Welland this seems to be
working well. We do not seem
to have too many people to go
out into these homes and stay
there. Then we have to be able
to take these people back in
case of sickness."
"We are holding our own,"
reported Superintendent Harvey
Johnston. "Since January 1 we
then should be the last place
they have to think of. Mother
—have you got your bifocals

DEAR DORIS—I just had a
lovely engagement party, and
received many gifts. When I
am sending out thank -you notes,
should I address my fiance's
aunt and uncles as "Dear Aunt
Josephine and Uncle Frank" or
"Mr, and Mrs. Foster". Although
I am sending out the notes, I
will sign both my name and my
boy friend's.
DOUBTFULL
DEAR DOUBTFUL — Unless
you have been calling them
"aunt" and "uncle" yourself,
dont jump the gun. They will
understand that the notes are
written by you rather than by
you fiance.

have had 15 admissions, but also
17 deaths, compared with 37 in
the whole of last year. Resi-
dents conning in are consider-
ably older than a few years ago.
The number of residents is 205,
and we expect two more to-
morrow.
"Early in the month we got
a lot of publicity in regard to
the people we were taking in
and the per client rate; and I
would like to state that as far
as Huronview is concerned,
many of these statements were
inaccurate. At no time have we
rejected indigent patients be-
cause persons able to pay the
per diem rate were occupying
some of these beds, It was
stated we were taking people
from Toronto. At no time has
anyone come from Toronto.
People outside Huron, enquir-
ing about accommodation, have
been told they have to be resi-
dents of Huron, according to
the Act, for 12 months before
they can be admitted. These
statements made in the paper
should be checked to be sure
they are correct before they are
put out."
(Mr. Johnston's allusion is to
daily newspapers, and probably
to statements therein attributed
to Associated Nursing Homes,
Inc.)
The Huronview report men-
tioned approval for paving the
parking area in front of the
home, including the circular
drive. The work is to be done
by the Levis Contracting Co.,
Clinton, for $2,450.
"There were 40 cars on the
parking lot last Sunday," Mr.
Johnston said, "and their oc-
cupants really trailed in a lot
of mud."
"On the last two Sundays the
county home halls have been
the dirtiest they have ever
been," said deputy reeve John
Sutter, Clinton "The dirt track-
ed in you would hardly be-
•lieve."
"You are still accepting appli-
cations from people able to pay
their own way, who can go in
a nursing home?" enquired
Reeve Tom Leiper, of Hullett.
"We are taking those who
have no estates ahead of those
who have, and taking the latter
as long as we have accommoda-
tion," explained Mr. Johnston.
At the meeting on April 15,
Mr. Berry announced, there
would be present the chairman,
administrator and medical rep-
resentative of each hospital
hoard in the county; Dr. Keith
