BLUEWATER (Mrs. Russell Grainger, Mr. and Mrs. Beert Dunn Jr. were pleasantly surprised on Saturday night at the .homee of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Grainger, the occasion being their isilver anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Dunn had been invited for the evening to help make ice cream and while they were busy in the basement about 40 friends and relatives gathered in the living room. When Mr. and Mrs. Dunn entered the room cameras flashed and a corsage and bou- tonniere were pined on them. Euchre and croginole were enjoyed until lunch time when an address, which she had writ- ten in rhyme, was read by Mrs. Walter Turner. A coffee table and two step tables were pre- sented on behalf of the friends, by Lynnda Seatchmer, Allan Rohner and Jim Grainger. A trilight from Mr. Dunn's family was presented by Ellen Lind- say. Mr. Dunn replied, thanking everyone• and inviting them to an "open house" they were planning on holding at their home on their anniversary date, March 15. Following this presentation lunch was served complete with homemade ice cream and anni- versary cake. On Sunday afternoon Mrs. Dunn's mother, Mrs. Elliott, Mitchell, arrived and presented her daughter and son-in-law with two table lamps to match the trilight lamp, on behalf of the Elliott family, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Dei - chert and Ricky, Scarborough, spent the weekend with their parents and attended the sur- prise Silver Anniversary party for Mr. and Mrs.Bert Dunn Jr., on Saturday night. Mrs. A. Elliott and Bob, Mit- chell, were Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Bert Dunn Jr. 0 Kippen News Mrs. Daniel Kilpatrick Mr. Alf. Moffatt received word Saturday his sister, Mrs. Daniel Kilpatrick, formerly Lil- lian Moffatt, passed away at Leedalee, Alberta, on' February 28. She is survived by three sons, one daughter, all of Al- berta; also two sisters, Mrs. Lavina Rathwell, Moose Jaw, Sask.; Mrs. Alberta McBeth, of Hensall; two brothers, Lawrence Moffatt, Regina, Sask; Alfred Moffatt, of Kippen. Funeral service was held Monday from the United Church in Rimbey, Alberta. Thrifty Kippenettes The fifth meeting .of the 4-H Club was held at the home of Mrs. Ernest Whitehouse, on Saturday afternoon, February 29. The meeting opened with the 4-H pledge. There were nine members who answereed the roll call. Ruth Ann Cole- man read the minutes of the last meeeting and the new sec- retary is to be Gwen McLean. Donna Stoll was elected as com. mentator for Achievement Day. "Genie" is the name of the bank's fully -integrated system of data processing machines and computers to clear cheques and post ledgers. Heart of the centre is this cheque sorter, capable of handling cheques at the rate of 1,600 a minute. Magnetic tapes replace bank ledgers shown in the insert (right). Each tape can record details of 25,000 separate accounts and the centre can record up to 1.5 million accounts by this method. The B of M's To- ronto "Genie" centre will serve 129 branches in the area. The girls then cut out their ma- terial. The neext meeting is to be held at 2 o'clock, March 7, at the .home of Mrs. E. White- house. The meeting closed with the singing of "The Queen". Mrs• Vivan Cooper, who has been hospitalized two weeks in St. Joseph's Hospital, London, returned home last Wednesday. She is wished a speedy recovery by her frieends and neighbors. Grant and Kenneth Jones won third prize for impersonation of the Beetles, in the junior ama- teur competition at the Farm Show in London, on Friday evening. Mr. Bert Thomson was in To- ronto Monday on business. Mrs, Bert Thomson was a winner on one of the treasure hunts at the Crest Hardware store during last week. She received a pair of Dutch shoes, a wall ornament. 0 Goshen UCW View Films Goshen United Church Women was held at the home of Mrs. Melvin Elliott on Feb- ruary 11. Mrs. Elmer Hayter opened the meeting. Hymn 148 was sang. Scripture was taken by Mrs. Walter Eckel, with comments by Mrs. Elmer Hayter. Prayer was offered by Mrs. Doug Rob- inson. The group was shown three films on India by John Robinson, with Mrs. Hayter and Mrs. Eckel giving the commen- tary, Mrs. Robinson read an article on church work in India. Busi- ness was conduced by Mrs. Mel- vin Elliott. Cards were read. It was decided to have the ba- zaar on March 21. The meeting closed with hymn 306, and prayer by Mrs. Elmer Hayter. About midnight on Friday the whole village of Zurich was called out to help whatever they could in the bad fire which broke out in the basement .of the T. L. Wurm store. Within an hour the complete building was a mass of flames, and com- plete destruction was inevit- able. The store of J. Gascho & Son -OF- YEARS GONE -BY- in. Zurich has a special on fresh ground coffee, at only 25 cents per pound. D. A. Cantelon is having ex- tensive alterations made to the interior of his home, at Hensall. The fire was first noticed by Harold Stade, of Zurich, who was on his way home from playing hockey in Seaforth. He drove up and down the main street of Hen- sall blowing his car horn, to arouse the people and thereby turn in the alarm. A few of the local fishermen along the Lake at St. Joseph have tried the ice, and the re- sults are not very favourable as yet. Mr. Wilfred Klopp, of Zur- ich, left for London this week where he will operate for a few weeks the hardware store be- longing to his brother, Harold, who will spend some time in Florida. The general store of Reste- mayer and Miller in Dashwood was broken into and robbed over the weekend. 15 YEARS AGO MARCH, 1949 Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lamont have moved into the new home they built for themselves in the north section or the village of Zurich. A new branch of the Bank of Montreal was opened this week in Crediton, for the convenience of the people in that vicinity. Mrs. Ross Johnston, of Zur- ich, suffered severe injuries last week when she fell on some ice on one of the village streets, Wayne Welsh, Murray Har- burn and George Smith, while playing in the bush adjoining the Hensall Community Park, killed a garter snake measuring a foot and a half long. Mr. Alphonse Geoffrey, of the Bluewater highway, is busy at the present time having a trail- er home built for himseelf. When completed the home should look quite attractive, 10 YEARS AGO MARCH, 1954 Last Friday night, at Lucan, before 1600 howling fans, the Zurich Flyers edged the pow- erful Lucan Irish 4-3 to tie their best of seven series at three games each. The deciding game will be played in Exeter, Huron County's century -old court house at Goderich was completely destroyed by fire last Thursday night. The struc- ture was insured for $75,000. William Allan, of Orange- ville, has purchased the Lake- view House in Grand Bend from Herman Gill, and intends- mov- ing there shortly to operate the same business.
