GB Council Action
(Continued from page 1)
The Chatham office of the
Ontario Department of High-
ways has reported they are pre-
pared to designate the extension
of Highway 81 from Highway 21
to the lake as a ".connecting
link" just as soon as council
passes the necessary motion.
However, the Chatham office
has also suggested that the vil-
lage retain a consulting engi-
neer to design this section of
street. The village had been
under the impression that the
engineering would be included
in the wore of the provincial de.
partment under the terms of
"connecting link" arrangement.
School Rep. Perturbed
W. F. 3, MacLaren pointed
out his position at the meeting
of South Huron District High
School Board when he told them
he felt Grand Bend would sup-
port the addition to the school
--only to find out from a mem-
ber of the press that the village
had not supported the addition.
He scolded clerk Murray Dos-
Jardins for not passing along to
him the decision of council, in
!time that he would be properly
informed before the board
meeting.
Reeve Stewart Webb stated
that the village had not "turned
clown" the addition.
WORK IS ADVANCING on the new bridge across high-
way 21 at Grand Bend. The big derrick on the left in this
photo is busy lowering steel rods into the north abutment
for reinforcing. To excavate for the footings the contractors
went thirty-six feet below the water level in the river. On •
the south side of the river workmen are still excavating and
will be preparing for cement work very shortly. In the fore-
ground of this photo can be seen the temporary bridge which
is now in use to cross the river. (Photo by Dinnin)
